Always suck dirt out with a vacuum over the vents, don't blow it in with compressed air.

 

I've been telling myself I need to vacuum my PS4 now that it's approaching it's first year of life in my dusty ass life. My launch PS3 never over heated due to the simple regiment of sucking the filth out of it and keeping it well ventilated, the only reason it finally died after 8 years is the BluRay drive died.

 

Matter of fact, a coworker has it down with a new BR drive and has been enjoying it for the last year. I suspect it'll just keep on going into the future.

Am i being stupid in thinking a full sized one would maybe dislodge some inside components after time due to it being too strong?

Yea. I'm surprised people's PS3 generally last only until 1 or 2 years. lol.

 

I myself never actually vacuumed the vents; I usually just brush the outer part, but I always keep the vent covered when not being used and always keep the surroundings clear of dust and items. It was 4 years old by the time I sold it to someone else and was still running like a horse.

You're not being stupid, you're being cautios. Holy crap, I have no idea how to spell that. Sure, I could autofix it, but I like to trust my ability to spell basic words.

Anyways, I just use our regular floor vacuum's accessory tube. I run it over every external vent, hole, or place where I could get dirt out except the drive's slot (that'll just suck dirt into the drive). I start with the "real" vents, and usually try to pull out the exhaust ports first since that's the way it was designed to flow.

 

It's not rocket science, it's a solid piece of consumer electronics designed to endure life in a household being abused by kids. It's been shipped to your door step through a series of intermodal transport, I can assure you that unless you're using an industrial grade shop-vac you won't be sucking components off a board.

I doubt it. I assume they'll eventually include support, but not out of the gate. They have yet to release the remote play app, so I wasn't even able to test it out on the beta.

Apparently the remote play software lets us sign in to our account.

 

I tried it and it was alright. Great to be able to use wifi network for remote play.

I'm 90% sure that this "PS4K" or "PS4.5" is simply a PS4 Slim, nothing more. Maybe it'll come with a firmware update unlocking 4K media playback or something like that - I wouldn't expect any hardware updates (which would probably be a really dumb business move for Sony at this point).

I'm not gonna lie, I don't really feel like dropping money for a 4K tv.......just for movies and tv shows in the year 2016, maybe in 2018 that might be a different story. If the gaming side was involved, and games would be played in 4K, not "upscaled", I would consider and probably go for it. Maybe in two or three years 4K tv and movies will have more to offer, but now there is hardly anything out there. But really, I just use my PS4 for gaming. Not apps, not movies, not tv shows, just gaming. I just can't see the PS4 with there upgrade being able to handle 2160p/4K gaming.

Tried out the PC remote play. It's pretty neat.

I used to use my laptop to watch videos while I remote played PS4 on vita.
Now I can just do it in a window on my laptop with a controller that doesn't suck ass cocks.

You guys ever had overheating issues? I've had my PS4 abot 20 months and played it an absolute ton in that time, including lots of 12+ hour nonstop sessions. And whilst it has gotten hot plenty of times and made lots of noise, the PS4 has never told me it's getting too hot or warned me. But over the last 3 days I've had a lot of warning messages from it, telling me to turn it off because it's too hot. The bluey white LED on top also turns red. It's only happened when I've been playing BO3 online. Each time these messages have come up I've turned it off within 5 minutes of them appearing, finishing the game I'm in first. Then earlier it turned itself off before I could finish my game and do it myself.

 

I've given it a clean and dedusting, including on the inside after taking the case off. That's the first time I've actually taken the case off and cleaned the inside, and it was pretty dusty. Also positioned it better so there aren't any obstructions around it to to affect the airflow or anything like that. Hopefully it's ok now, I really don't want to have to buy a new one.

 

I've had mine make some interesting noises and so on but never actually give me any warnings about heat an so on, but mine has air on every side so hopefully has kept better than some.

 

Must admit I'm kinda worried if mine will go that way as it does get used a lot, but if I can just transfer my HDD into a PS4K I'll be tempted, even though I don't have a 4k TV yet.

I'm not sure if you can just swap out a HDD like that. I believe the HDD is linked to the machine, but I could be wrong.

 

Anyone having luck with the Remote Play? I'm worried that a WiFi connection might be too slow for me.

Well I've elevated the PS4, bought an attachable fan set to help cool it, and even turned the output down to 480p, but all it does is buy me a bit more time. Lasts about 90-120 mins now. Still only overheats for COD BO3 though. I played GTA V for 10 hours the other day and it was fine. Really annoying because BO3 is what I play the most. No point buying a new PS4 just for 1 game though.

Sounds like it's the game Stu, is there any patches to install or anything? I don't have CoD, but it sounds like that's the cause. Maybe it's not optimized for the PS4. B/c if GTA is running just fine for 10 hours then it's not the system.

 

My only other thought is it's an electrical problem. Like maybe it's an inverter or something. Haven't had any lightning strikes or power brownouts have you? Again, it would be uniform across all the games.

 

Try this: boot up the game and either pause it, or look at a simple texture like a wall or floor. If it's still giving you trouble then it's probably the game.

When you install the update you can view the details and it gives you a link there to download it. But, the small website that it's available on is shagged (I could explain what they've done wrong and make an educated guess as to how it happened, but that's unnecessary detail).

You just need to fix that URL to make it work. Put "remoteplay" back in so it becomes...

It's a good program, but it's basically a ported version of the mobile or PSVita app. There's a slight lag so it may not really be a good way of playing hardcore games when you're in a different room than the console, but for anything less demanding it's good.

 

 

Edit: I've just installed it at work and it's actually impressive over the internet, even despite our terrible internet connection here. You don't actually need a controller plugged in to use it, but you're obviously very limited without one (for now).

I got the remote play app working and it seems pretty responsive to me, but does anyone know how to swap accounts you connect with? I acidentally signed in with my 2nd account and now can't find any way to change it. If I log out on the app it just automatically logs back in on that account and I can't find anywhere to change it.

Try leaving the PS4 off, open the app, and it should prompt you to connect. There's a button in the lower left corner for 'Settings'. There's an option to Sign-In.

The new update has killed my PS4. All my games crash or freeze on starting and it's £120 to fix. Might as well wait for the new model now.

Interestingly I also had my machine suddenly cut out on me for the first time since the new software update was installed and got me a little

worried so I moved the PS4 gave it a clean up and all seems fine since but hoping it's not a sign of things to come.

 

Game I was playing at the time was Elder Scrolls Online.

Try rebuilding database? If that doesn't work, you can always backup your data and then do a complete format.
