FIX YOUR SERVERS

The developers need to stop releasing new content. Rather, they need to fix their content. I cannot stay in a server for more than ten minutes without getting told there was an error and I need to go back to Grand Theft Auto Story Mode. But wait! I can stay in a public server if I'm the ONLY person in one. With the exception of my friend because I invited him. I can't get the entire experience because the game sucks at providing it. And it's definitely not my wifi. We've had that switched multiple times. We've tried switching three companies. Nope! New Xbox. Nope! Fix your -ish before adding -ish.

I've had the same modem since 2008 and no issues here. Sure, there's the stuck loading and the "Sorry, unable to load anything except this nice screen" message a few times but that's part of GTA by now. Thought about checking your settings? Nat type open, etc?

It must be my area then. But still everyone should be able to enjoy it. It shouldn't have to be select people here and there. And yah my nat types open. I only ever have connectivity issues with this game.

hmm.....i was once having server issues long ago

but that was originating the cable plugged to LAN instead of WAN on my wifi , since now i rarely got disconnected (not counting unknown network error) but it doesn't stop the online mode lagging me

that time i keep getting signed out and time out , even if my PSN was still signed in

Huh. And I've called multiple times about it too. I'm on Xbox one. But it just doesn't seem to get better

Really shouldn't use wifi for GTA unless your solo, there's just too much going on these days, since I popped an ether net wire in, I get much less issues. My Internet is only basic speeds at that...

There's just so many variables dude I'm afraid, could be on R*'s end too, weather, too many speakers in your house, just could have the unfortunate luck of living in built up area with a black spot...

Sorry dude, give it a couple hours, otherwise, I cannot offer much more I'm afraid..

Could try putting the router elsewhere, if it's in a soft spot, near the TV or speakers, mobiles too, anything to ease the load will help... Hope it eases.

Try using wired instead of wifi, forward the correct ports, set a static IP for your console. This will solve your issues, if not then unfortunately your ISP just sucks ass and it's a problem you'll probably never get to have fixed.

At this point I'm fairly certain the majority of people that are having server issues are the ones at fault for not having their network setup properly, which causes them issues.

Was there an update in the last week?

For a couple of days I've been having a suspicious number of "there was an error with this session please return to GTA V" messages. Not a huge amount, but several in one day is more than I've had since next gen came out.

It also coincided with the game forgetting my control and display settings, requiring me to set the brightness on startup and then putting me into Story Mode by default instead of online.

I also had a problem with Cracked and Torched, where the Safe wouldn't spawn, and some of the Munitions were sunk into the floor making it impossible to destroy them.

Things seem to have cleared up now, but have you noticed anything similar earlier in the week?

What servers?

Public xbox one

TheColoringPig, Kenmy13999 is referring to the fact that there are no servers for GTA Online, it's all peer to peer connection bullsh*t, that's why it all runs so poorly.

Yes that is correct, but I feel I maybe could contribute a bit more than that..

TheColoringPig: have you tried resetting your router? It helps for me and also for a lot of my friends the days there are problems connecting to and stay in sessions and with friends. I am resetting my router on a regular basis and I rarely have problems playing online in gta and other games

Like Livejoker pointed out already; check your NAT type. If this is type 3, then that is your major problem. NAT type 1 and 2 are both fine. Best is to give your console a static IP address and bypass the router, which'll get you NAT type 1.

Edit:

Just pointing out that the disconnects have been happening a lot more again in the past week or so. Even though I have a very stable internet connection, LAN cable and bypassed the router, I still got thrown out of online at least five times in the past week, which normally happens maybe

once a week.

I have no problem staying in a lobby all day, even for 20 hours straight. I'm using wifi to the router and 50mbit wifi connection after that. All wifi for at least a hundred kilometres. But GTA has no real servers so it depends totally on what lobby you get sent to and your connection to those players. I cant host a race and have anyone join because the auto invite only matches you with nearby players and I play when the locals are asleep.

NAT Type can´t be the issue. "With the exception of my friend because I invited him" means he can connect to his friend's console, NAT Type 3 won't allow that.

It does allow that. It usually (maybe even always) doesn't allow you to connect with someone who also has a type 3 and sometimes gives difficulties with another person having type 2.

Trust me, I've tried it.

Though there might be a difference in the security settings of routers, in which case your point may also be true.

At one point I actually did have an Ethernet connection and that's where I got most of my problems. We had our wifi company come out and they went around our entire house trying to figure out what it was. They found out that our main cable was torn, so they fixed that. The company even went through our entire street replacing every single cable and giving us an upgrade. Supposedly the upgrade was giving everyone better and faster speeds. After that I was able to play Ark: Survival Evolved, Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs 2, etc. all without issue. But, the only game I have issues with is grand theft auto 5.

I am hardwired right to my modem and I'm constantly having connection issues. I can't stay connected more than 30 minutes or less without getting disconnected which is often during critical MC/CEO sales or missions. It's beyond annoying. My connection is perfect in other games. It only happens during GTA Online.

It doesn't matter what you do. It all boils down to Rockstar's crap servers. They have hundreds of millions of dollars but cannot buy some decent servers.
