Heists: What do you do on the job?

Hi guys...

Just a cool Idea I had last night while brooding over a bad heist run...

What do you guys like to do on heists these days?

For many now, these heists have been over-played big time, for a good while they we're the most consistent way to score big, regular cash too. Many of us have run each one so often, that, just like contact missions or other PvE jobs, we could do them in our sleep...

Do you like to stick to your best plan?

Do you like to 'follow' on the job, doing some, but only enough to get done?

Do you charge in and take the lead?

Do you follow job directly as suggested?

Do you only use the 'known shortcuts?

Anything else?

I like to mix it all up and try my best to get some fun from the job, you know? As best as can be, lol...

TL:DR.

This made me think of this, and smile... The story is not important, just thought it topical...

Last night, I joined Pacific Standard - Signal... Easy job, was with 3 guys from the same crew, so I was the 'random'... Fun times, usually a synch...

I got to the island by driving my Blackfin up past the fort to the 2nd seasharks, quicker for me, they went to get the helicopter... Okie dokie, these guys know a lil' bit, all is gold... I got to the island and started killing, they stayed in the chopper for a bit, letting me clear half, then landed. After all was killed, they were very slow to go to the shed, sod it, I'll get him... So I did... Then, I proceeded to cruise the boat all the way up the river, listening to Rebel Radio, whistling away (no-one was on mic)... IMO, still a stunning view in the right light...

I got a tirade of abuse texts in-game, calling me a noob, and other zingers... Now I'm glad I doodled up the river... I lost the cops, got in a car, and just sent 1 message back...

'You guys are a higher rank than me, I'm 604, and you need that helicopter to save you... Bless'

After the proverbial F.U. I sent one more...

'You think I'm a noob, yet I just did the job, killed all, and gone, QUICKLY... Embarrassed?'

Then I heard something on mic, before I could pick it up, the leader suicide and ended the job...

I laughed at this, but it got me thinking...

Do you do things differently on jobs while waiting for supplies to grow, anything cute, but NOT compromise the heists?

Sometimes, I'm super efficient, other times, I'm just doodling so follow lines, or just try things out, again, NEVER looking to fail/grief though... Creative, fun ways guys heist, could be fun to read, and some might learn some tricks themselves...

Peace guys, and, of course, happy heisting!!!

Sometimes I'll do things like... not use an Armored Kuruma for Bikers(the first part), or do it using just a normal Pistol etc. For Signal, I'm often content to just arrive there early and wait, or be the helicopter pilot guy while doing little to no shooting. At times, I will shoot but only if I can 100% guarantee a headshot using my carbine rifle - I won't kill with non-headshots if I can help it.

If the leader comes up with a plan and presents it to everyone in chat, I tend to follow, but otherwise I just do my own thing. Go get the heli alone, if necessary, fly towards the island. Pick up people if they ask, or if they're conveniently close (maybe they followed me to the heli spawn point, for example).

In PS - Hack, I'll often try and rush to the alleyway as soon as possible to try and kill all the NPCs before the van arrives as a challenge.. of course only if no one else follows. If they do, I just aim to kill the NPCs they overlook for whatever reason.. clean up, basically. Let them do most of the job, just help out on the sidelines to keep it as quick as they can get it done.

In the finale, I always follow. Why? Before Kuruma was patched, I never bought the necessary apartment. So I had to follow. Now, I just didn't care enough to figure out how/where people are getting the helicopter (which seems to be the 'best' strategy now).. I just stick to the things I know - hacker takes money, hides in the bank etc.

EDIT: When I'm feeling lazy, I'll just let things happen.. if we fail repeatedly, I keep quiet unless someone calls me out as the high level guy who should be doing his job

For me, it's usually just stick it the plan, keep mess ups at a minimum. I accept some mess ups like inevitable laggy traffic or the odd f*ck up if they haven't played in a while.

Reminds me when I did the CM challenge, one of our team members almost got hit by a train! tense moment for all of us, but we did it :D

Yeah, there's no doubt about it, on my CMM run, there was a couple of moments where we all just went silent and paused in hope for that half second... A great challenge to do, quite easy with todays knowledge and expectations with lag and other tin lil' bits that can cause hiccups, but at the time... Tense...

Most heist jobs I join, if the team is on mic and English is clear, then rarely is there an issue at all, the plans are set, or knowledge shared, and things usually go well, silent runs, unless texted to ask otherwise, I stick to 'my' shortcuts (the common ones many know), Kuruma, Heist clothes if possible, or follow them give cover, texting tips if I feel they're needed...

But on other days, days where I'm not focused and just waiting for someone/something to happen, I do often find heists are a great way to add some spice to a game, could, and usually, messes up, but most of 'my' shortcuts were learned by heisting with random players often, I do like to 'act' the noob and see what the team knows... Can be interesting...

Is it griefing? I never plan to die, fail or cost the team the job. Just an extra minute or 2 sometimes, just like when some limit their weapon use on jobs, gonna take a touch longer with a pistol and the like, lol...

With my latest char at lvl20 where I like to be teached by "highlevles 60-140 who stays and don't leave" I act like - "wow thanks, awesome trick" and try not to kill their imagination to know how to do it and teach me something.

With my main charackter (lvl700) I just let em do what they want (I only join random heists for amusement) - once they fail I'll offer my help but I don't insist on doing it "my way". If they take my help and tricks - fine. If not, they get 3-5 replays (depends how/where they die/fail). They need to learn it - they don't win anything if I run away and do all by myself. I like to take them with me and show them any shortcut/trick/whatever I know - I show them/expain it, don't do it.

Popov f.e. villa team. I take them either on my bike to snipe Popov and do it with one shot (maybe drop a sniper if my "prospect" is lower 20ish level) or show them how to sneak thru - they can choose. I like to be one of the good one's ingame :)

I stick to the plan while using known shortcuts for better efficiency.

If the other players are random guys then I will charge in and take the lead.

I just do what the little text at the bottom says, expecting the randos I'm with to have no idea about shortcuts, and not being inclined to inform them.

Haven't done Heists properly in ages but I do what any normal player is expected to do, follow the instructions and not get killed

I have a tendency to always want to be the first person at a checkpoint and be the first to kill everybody, I'm a show off I know :D

I also like picking the fastest cars at my disposal so I get to places before everyone else lol, I hate riding with others but I don't mind if they want to ride with me

As for following specific instructions from the Heist Leader (if it's not me), I'll cooperate as long as the plan isn't too left field and out of the ordinary

I know people there will want to be the "Alpha" and immediately take the reigns as soon as the setup or heist starts, so most of the time I just get into someone's Armored Kuruma and let them drive to the destination while I do other stuff. Afterwards, I just follow the normal heist objectives. It's not worth trying to be the leader for a setup that's gonna end in 8 minutes.

Do you like to stick to your best plan?

Yes, I do like to stick to my best plan. I don't claim to be an absolute heist expert, but I've done my homework, and lots of practice did the rest. I felt having a good plan for every single mission is necessary for the Criminal Mastermind, which I've completed with my team, and that way of thinking can't hurt. Of course, there are variables, including the human factor, and anyone can mess up anytime, that happens, but overall, I like to stick to the plan and explain it to the rest of the team when there's time (that usually includes upcoming hazards everyone should be prepared to face, etc.).

Do you like to 'follow' on the job, doing some, but only enough to get done?

Do you charge in and take the lead?

Do you follow job directly as suggested?

I'm definitely a leader, however I have no problems with following someone who knows what they're doing. For instance, in Prison Break's finale, when someone takes off the Velum without waiting few minutes, I tell them to wait, unless they want to play cat and mouse with eney Lazers. On the other hand, if host has a plan, be it Lectro run in Pacific Standard's finale and explains it to everyone, I either listen and do as I'm expected to, propose an alternate strategy, or just share few tips, or anything that could help (like aim an RPG at the hostages, that'll scare them) - depends on situation and people I play with.

But yeah, I'm a very decisive person, and for the greater good, I step in if the leader doesn't have a proper plan. If they have, I'm fine with following. Oh, as for doing "only enough to get the job done", the only thing I'm guilty of, is trying to be a passenger in missions requiring long driving (Deliver an EMP, Convoy, etc.), so I can read a book while others do the hard work :p

Do you only use the 'known shortcuts?

I'm familiar with some, but never bothered with majority of them. I mean, Kuruma and a heavy utility vest could be considered as shortcuts by some that's a subject for another discussion. When it comes to missions themselves, there's few tricks I use or advice others to use. It's always the little things, like destroying the western fence on the parking lot in the Keycodes mission before FIB agents show up, or using a train tunnel to lose the cops in the assassination mission in Prison Break (city hall team). I never bother with Kuruma method in Prison Break's finale, since that's a killjoy, and from my observations, people with a Kuruma usually need more time to escape than those who escape on foot. Maybe I was just unlucky when it comes to random players, but nonetheless, I find it kinda ironic.

Bottomline - yay for small shortcuts not ruining the fun, nay for everything else.

One thing to note - when others use cheap tricks, like the Kuruma method in Prison Break, I don't really say anything. If that's what they need to complete it, be it, as long as I get paid. Unless their way interrupts mine, and others' experience, like the NOOSE van "trick" in Pac Standard, where one noob can force everyone else to follow his "super extra strategy". If you're doing something on your own, and no one else is involved, that's a means to an end.

I only played them to get the fat bank account provided by the CMMC. I did exactly what the experienced players helping me told me to do, lol. After that I returned the favor and helped some crew mates earn their awards/money.

Haven't really performed a heist since. I do the odd setup here and there. Did go back and perform the Pac Standard job using the bikes.....just so I could say I did :)

Being the nice helpful guy in heists can come back to bite you in many ways.

Sometimes when I join randoms who are low level they might kick you out of an objective vehicle, run you over or blow up your car or shoot you after you saved them from failing a setup or heist.

Today I did Hack with some level 100 plus Randoms, they had it on Easy with no player saved outfits. We get there and one guy dies,we get in the black van, same guy dies again because he crashed and was shot up by the gang,I hop out kill them all and deliver the van without him.

When we spawn in Freemode, He punches me twice in the face,so I whip out the combat shotgun and make quick work of him.

I host Pacific standard pretty much every other day and grind with friends or randoms, so I know most of the shortcuts in all of them.

It's a shame when I see people fail Heists because they have been out so long.

Same. I see the occasional pop-up invite for "Deliver EMP" and I shake my head. I don't care if the payout was $250k, I'm not doing that job with randoms.

I would still do "Vans", though. I will demand to be a navigator and do the whole job myself. Find and photograph all for vans (6-8 minutes, tops), jack the correct one, deliver it. I like that one, even though the van locations are pretty predictable.

Last time I joined that with randoms the van (that they were closer to and jacked) ended up getting blown up by cops over by the Kortz Center. While I know how they screwed up that badly, I can't understand how they screwed up that badly.

I honestly don't have much experience with the theists. I quit trying with randoms after my 5th failed attempt to complete the setup for the Fleeca job(how hard is it to understand you need to use cover?) and decided to just wait until my friends were on PS4. That only happened a few months ago. We finished that and moved on to prison break and the wheels just fell off. Dunno how many tries we made at the finale but we just couldn't get it done. Basically my friends and I all suck. And I don't want to ask someone else here to help out because I'm afraid of dragging the team down and being that loser screwup random that everybody hates.

I'm a control freak, I like to do things my own way, but I follow the leader's commands unless s\he is way over their heads, then I takeover.

In set ups with shootings, I try to be the first on the scene to wrap things quickly & avoid restarts. If there's a shortcut, I'll take it ... Etc. Whatever to move things quickly.

I'm retired now, haven't pulled a job in almost 6 months. It ain't worth it for me.

Hahahaha. In the words of Steven Seagal: For $375k, I'll f*ck Anything Once ... 😂

Unless the pay is phenomenal, I'll never touch Deliver The EMP again (I did all the killing). Which is a damn shame, because its my favorite set up story & action wise.

The one job I'll never ever ever touch again, is the Station set up ... f*ck that sh*t.

I didn't realise so many look to rush the jobs, I feel too many do this and that can be the cause of the issue...

So many times a higher level shoots off and looks to take on the whole job solo, Prison Break - Plane is a fine example, so many times that 1 minute after the first player there just gets killed far too quickly...

Why not just wait nearby and when another gets close, then go on...

Worse on Series A - Weed... If players hit the first check Point the rest of the team will be timed out of the job, failing it for all, usually the host gets left back in their standard car, I always try to get them in my car... The high level snobs don't even now why that fails there often!!!

But Deliver EMP and Trash Trucks, I share the pain, 2 jobs that if I get sucked into, I leave if levels are low and no mics... I won't spend 15 failed attempts anywhere these days...

3 fails maximum, unless I see clear game mishaps or errors, or if the team is making progress but just a tad naive on jobs, failing through inexperience is more than ok, and so long as showing willing, learning and enjoying your game, I'm good

Also, nice to see a couple here are patient too, I agree with @ godtrams and @ Nihilist... I like to help, on mic or through texts... Series A - Weed, I always text 'follow plz, freeway, no NPC'S'... that works often and by the time they get to the fort, the few Ballers are not really the issue...

I just love heists, that team thing, I dunno, just the more risk of failure, the more 'noobish' the team is, the more fun it can be... Heists for cash, especially as I can trade a car or 2 between, sell some coke/supplies or crates to make it up...

Recently, I've spammed a few and enjoyed plodding and helping guys learn for themselves...

Although, Fleeca - Scope Out 3 times in a row is boring, i usually read here, or text the host if they wanna redo it, me hosting, or double cash/RP jobs...

Added 2 this week...

^^ team thing - that says it all and gets lost to often tbh, that makes me sad.

I'll agree on all except the point at leaving

  • Trash Truck when they don't have a mic. I normaly don't open my mic while playing with randoms until they sound/text nice and mature. I had to many stalker issues in the past from that. Text is fine and it's pretty easy to type some adivces to keep them alive. And the fact you can order a Kuruma at the gasstation... well... I carry lvl20 and lower thru this setup on the 1st try once they're open to learn a trick (and they are because my 1st question to the host after joining is "How many tries before? :)"
  • Deliver EMP: to keep it short, I made a video some months ago and offer the following to the host (Just sit in the Insurgent - don't shoot and enjoy the show) - works 4of5 times on 1st try :)

Easy - just easy, every time if no-one shoots except me :)

@ godtrams...

Absolutely agree on Deliver EMP, I usually make sure I'm a passenger in the Insurgent and text, just recently I've had some bad times there so took a break... Such a simple job, made difficult only by those that don't listen/read the game, let alone any potential good advice...

Of course, sometimes it is a language barrier, that's just unfortunate when both me and them are trying, just can't understand a thing... I try me best but sometimes it's best for both to leave if the issues become too much..

And, if a heist job gets trolled, not as frequent these days, because of the diversity in the game, but occasionally, I'll gladly return and wait for another to join, a shame when it does happen, but, it is GTA, no job is safe from these bandits when they show up...

Trash Trucks however, as much as I'd try, that one job is the one I had so much hassle passing on my original turn with heists, of course, I was solo, relying on randoms, but it scarred me, lol... With a team, never an issue...

I rush things out & finish shootings by myself because once randoms start dying, someone almost always will quit & waste everyone's time.
