Constant Crashes

Question

crunchynapkin

Greetings GTA 5 community.

I'm extremelly pissed off due to the fact that I've bough GTA 5 and I've been trying to play the game for three days now. My problem is that the game constantly crashes every single time that I get into gta online. After 10 mins of playing, no matter what I am doing, I just crash, and it stops working, and then again, does the same thing. I've tried a few things, I tried re-installing GTA in a different hard drive, same thing happened, I looked it up online and everyone had a sh*t ton of different "solutions" to this problem, none of which worked for me.

Also, I couldn't send a ticket to rockstar, because apperanty, their page is flawed or something, it doesn't allow me to send a new ticket for some reason, it's not even there, it keeps loading.

This is actually a different error than the previous one that I have been getting, the prev one was 0xc000005 or something, status access violation, this is a new one, for god sake, I want my money back....

Navigate to your documents folder and follow through into the "Rockstar Games\GTA V" folder. In this directory, there should be a file: settings.xml. Delete it. Then, from the same folder, navigate to "Profiles\[uNIQUE STRING]". In that directory, you should see a number of files, two of which are cfg.dat and pc_settings.bin. Delete those two files.

Your settings will be set back to default, but it's not that big of a deal.

Let me know how it goes.

Nothing changed, managed to get in-game, played for like 10 mins tops, roamed around, and then boom, crashed.

What CPU and GPU do you have? Could you post a dxdiag?

Same problem here.

System specifications:

  • Windows 10 Education x64
  • 10 GB RAM
  • 128 GB Samsung SSD
  • Intel [email protected] GHz
  • GTX 970
  • ASRock X58 Extreme
  • GTA V (Steam version)

What I've tried so far:

  • Re-install W10
  • Re-download and re-install GTA V
  • Windows Memory Diagnostic = no errors
  • CrystalDiskInfo = no errors
  • Unplug my second screen
  • Disable all recording devices
  • Disable all playback devices (except for one)
  • Run as administrator
  • Check integrity of game files (using Steam)
  • Disabling GameDVR (via regedit)
  • Lowest graphics settings
  • ...

My launcher.log file

I'm going to keep trying. If I manage to fix it, I'll let you know.
//edit: I should probably mention that GTA V used to work fine. I wanted to return after a short break (30 days or so) and kept getting this error.

//edit 2: I reverted to an older version of my NVidia drivers (378.66 - 14th Feb.) and the game stopped crashing. I feel like this isn't NVidia's fault entirely though. I suspect it has something to do with Microsoft's latest updates to W10. As far as I know, they're preparing everyone for their "Creator's Update" which, as of now, causes a f*ckton of problems when it comes to gaming.
//edit 3: Seems the old drivers don't work after all. While I was testing the old drivers, I had set my graphics settings to 'high' (not 'very high'). No crashes there. As soon as I set them back to 'very high', however, it crashed after about thirty minutes of gameplay...

Further stuff I've tried:

  • memtest86 - no errors
  • Furmark (30 minutes) - no errors
  • Speedfan - doesn't show temperatures out of the ordinary
  • Moving the game to one of my HDDs instead of my SSD
  • SSDLife - health perfect

Errors:

  • According to the Windows Event Viewer, sometimes the failing module is GTAV.exe and sometimes it's nvwgf2umx.dll

At this point, I'm pretty sure it's my hardware. I'll try replacing my GPU, PSU and MB (in that order).

Weird thing is that, sometimes, the game doesn't crash at all. I feel like it might have something to do with when I last restarted the computer.
