Custom Radio for Chinatown Wars PSP

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this really deserves it own tutorial tbh, but i'll type it up and let the mods decide.

If I recall correctly somebody once posted up the technique for replacing the radio for LCS/VCS on PSP and this is pretty similar.

Anyways on with the tutorial. You'll need a few programs and such in order to do this.

A PSP with custom firmware or the ppsspp emulator.

PowerISO or an equivalent program.

Copy of the game in ISO format.

Goldwave, (use an older version if you have problems getting it to register the at3 codec)

ATRAC3 ACM codec http://www.theisozone.com/tutorials/psp/emulation-and-homebrew/how-to-install-the-atrac3-acm-codec-on-64-bit-windows/

Goldwave AT3 Looping tool http://ux.getuploader.com/kou_0410/edit/6

Install all of the above and open goldwave.

Open your MP3 or whatever and re-save it as WAV, but make sure you select ATRAC3 in the attributes setting.

Next use the Goldwave looping tool, and open your WAV file, select the goldwave tab and let it do its thing.

Now you'll have a new "looped" version of the file with the extention .AT3

Once thats done use PowerISO to open Chinatown Wars and find the radio files you want to replace.

They all reside in \PSP_GAME\USRDIR\WAD, most are named Radio1,Radio2,ect.

Rename your converted AT3 file and replace the file within the ISO and save it.

Done.

I find using the radio from IV works quite nicely.

Now all we need is a way to import custom textures, I'm a sucker for authenticity lol

Turns out it is indeed possible to use custom icons! But only with Ppsspp...

For this you'll need the replace textures setting checked. It's under developer tools in the emulators settings.

Download this file http://www.filedropper.com/memstick

Edit the 3 PNG files inside, then drop the folder into the root directory of the emulator.

If that doesn't work check out this post http://s15.zetaboards.com/legendsofmodding/topic/10000238/1/

Chances are you've got a different version to mine.

This is a nice tutorial. Also, I have a little useful tip when replacing radio stations in LCS/VCS: if you installed new stations to replace the old ones, but they don't play any music, then I suggest deleting the AT3HEDEU.bin file (or its equivalent in LCS), because I've tried it in VCS and it worked.

I never knew stations can be replaced on LCS and VCS, I always wanted to put "real songs" on Head Radio and Lips 106, I'll give a try to my PSP and PS Vita if it works.
