The situation is dire. I don't like it at all. I wouldn't touch the freeroam with a pole right now.

Really, this must honestly be the worst time to be playing on pc ever.

Am not a day one player like many here, but it appears (knock on wood) whatever R* did back in early 2014 to fix the

is still working today.

Umm I still have about 20 mil from 2 bounties I claimed sometime in late 2015/ early 2016. :( I've also had an insane amount of money put on my head by a modder a few months after I started GTA. I was planning to survive the bounty, but it got claimed within 2 minutes of being active. Now I'm thanking the guy who claimed it lol.

Yes. It's been so bad lately that a session lasts for about 10 minutes before I'm switching to get away from invincible people, cars going double speed running me over, handheld Hydra cannons and railguns, being teleported to the ocean, being crashed, having tanks spawned on me, etc.. It's especially bad late nights on the west coast when China's awake.

Actually, safest public session I was on last night was primarily a Russian(?) session (no English being used in text chat anyway).

Everyone left each other alone, no visible cheating going on...was amazing. Whoever those people are, спасибо! Было приятно. I should have commended them--was very nice.

Actually managed to sell a top-range Import/Export car in peace. :) American public sessions, on the other hand... *sigh*

Hmm; in that case, not sure why some mega-bounties work and others are fake?

@ flexcreator... I resent that!!!... I'm rank 531 presently... I have no crew, haven't since I did that one job to get a trophy when I created my account... By your standards I cheat/mod... Wrong!

1) No, that's just one of the clues. You need to do some detective work and combine all of the factors together. Normally, I would check if the guy is off the radar and try to spot him on TV in my appartment - to see if he is invisible, teleporting or not.

2) We have some pretty bad situation in GTA online currently, so it's better safe than sorry. I'm not encouraging to report all the players with no crews. But you won't do any harm by quitting the session.

3) Even if you report the guy by mistake - a single report won't do anything. In fact there was an experiment, when the guy was doing some modding online, he was using godmode, messed with players and asked to be reported. He recieved like 34 reports and DID NOT get banned.

I have even more money from winning Impromptu races. Maybe it depends on the mod menu the script kiddie has installed. I know some paid ones're really powerful.

Only for that session or every session ?When ammo is removed, I think it's lost forever. I've had it happen to me twice, and quite a few more times for my friends.

I had to buy all ammo back for something like 160k..twice.

Edit: Happened to me a while back. I dunno what happens now.

No I tried both. Didn't work. I was quite angry when I had to spend so much money on ammo. I didn't even know ammo was that expensive until that happened.

^^ Or weapons--you should (theoretically) still have even the non-Ammu-nation melee weapons like the Crowbar, Baseball Bat, and Golf Club on joining a new session or restarting the game.

Now that's something new to me (yikes!)--IIRC have always had most of my Ammu-nation weapons returned later. Ammo and Crowbar/Baseball Bat/Golf Club have at times been a different story. :( Might be a difference in type of "mod" menu being used as to whether they stick or not?

Failing that, there are at least 19 select guns and throwables for free across the map in every public session (though it takes time and effort to collect that most players wouldn't bother with).

@ flexcreator... f*ck that! I get that the game is currently having a dark time, but to blanket high ranks as cheats is absurd, my 531 is nothing compared to day one players... Rank 1000 is easily possible. If I was on PC, I'd get the f*ck out of the lobby instead of giving a modder time to manipulate my game further, instead of looking at all those potential risks you said... Too much time needed for that 'detective work'...

What I've seen and read, this stuff happens unexpectedly and fast, so fast that even quitting is often still be not enough to get out clean, to hang about, reading the players stats, comparing all that to the maps activity, your account would be absolutely f*cked!... And, by your own admission, it would only add a bad sport point, so again, pointless, and fully reject your prejudice of higher rank players without a crew. It's a weak cop-out at best... By hanging around to report is, in my mind, just something you'd do in order to have the last word or something... Pure ego.

@ Fun De Panda...

@ Faggio S...

@ d3mentu...

My ammo often gets wiped, mostly all my throwables and heavy weapons, RPG, Minigun, etc. Sometimes my snipers too... Pisses me off, and seeing it happen, quitting asap, reloading and it sticks too... Always costs between $75-180k... Tedious... Nothing compared to what PC is experiencing, but the little bits are in need of a fix too...

Hoping R* does something big to stop this big issue on PC, but also picks up other bits too in the same potential fixes, you know...

As much as I hate mod menus for ruining freeroam on PC, I have to admit, some stuff they offer are pretty fun. All you needed was a friendly script kiddie for these.

* Dance moves. I've seen some amazing ones.

* Rocket Gauntlets, Rocket Dominators, rocket version of any car you want, since 2015, with UNLIMITED BOOST !! R* even stole the idea.

* Test drive any car you want.

* Custom vehicles, like an armored T20. There was some amazing creativity going on back when GTA0 was still fresh on PC.

People can apparently get your IP addresses too.

It's no surprise seeing as the information was available for a long time, but now that stuff is being put as a function within menus.

-snip-

You can get them on any console if you will pass through all your traffic via special software :/ since R* doesnt hide any IP. Many other games can also show your IP to other players

Yes, although I know it relates to an area/ address, I'm not technically minded enough to know what malicious things can be done with that information. I think all the staff of these forums know our IP addresses too, but it's "when that info gets into the wrong hands" things may be concerning.

Already had one company lose a death certificate earlier in the year; I just don't trust what people are going to do once they've got it.

At this point, I think menu creators know game better than R* devs do, so much there is for a player to use, and yet R* is still can't fix their own code, to cut them off. Can't even monitor those IP's as mod menu users can(and put some banwave guard on them, to instantly ban the user once he injected the menu to the game)

Make independent GTAOnline.exe, put some securty on it, problem solved.

But nah, better just go play new Adversary mode and ignore the issue like it's not the reality.

f*ck off.

f*ck. You think I should just wait and hope they don't notice or should I make a ticket with them?

Do it. But even if you don't Rockstar will only deduct the extra money you had in your account by themselves when they notice it.

The message will say "Maze Bank has corrected your account by xxx amount. Sorry for the error" or something like that when you login. I had a few moneybags dropped on me a year ago, wasn't huge amount maybe about 100k in total but then it was taken from my account a few months later even though I had spent it in modding my vehicles.

I might just wait... I can't help being paranoid that if I make a ticket they might just see it as a reason to ban me though. I can't even record the game because my hard drive is already pretty damn full, and I have no money for new ones. I already had to uninstall other games to make room for GTA...

Sure, I'll be annoyed if I save up a million for moving into Lombank and it all gets taken away but at least I won't be banned. The sad thing is, one of my friends is a modder (He has Menyoo and we just use it to f*ck around, he doesn't spawn money or mess with the more dangerous options, just fun things like beeping the horn for a boost and fixing import/export cars because a futo decided to make an illegal lane change in front of me) and when I watch the things he does it sounds easy to detect! "This client is sending hundreds of requests to spawn an explosion and each one is directly behind another player, someone grab the banhammer" ya know?

And guess what? It's people like you and your friend that actively help ruin this game and support these loser mod menu makers.

People especially like you (don't use mods yourself but support others who use them) make it seem like using mods in online is an acceptable and okay thing because "w-we don't use any of the b-b-bad mods!!1! J-just the good ones guys!", and that causes more people to try them out just for the "good things", which ends up causing some players to try out the "bad things" and the game gets ruined more.

I really wish people like you and others would really f*cking start to understand this and stop supporting people who use ANY mod at all for ANY f*cking reason. You are ruining the game for countless others.

From what I understand if you have a dynamically assigned IP, then on it's own it will only give your approximate geographical area (only your ISP should be able to use it to identify you personally as it will keep changing). Obviously if the Admins here are suspicious that a banned member has created a new account, the combination of the fact the behavior smells familiar AND the IP starts with the same set of numbers it's likely the same person.

However, if someone had the IP address you're currently assigned and you're still online, and you weren't properly firewalled, I'd guess a skilled hacker could potentially access your PC remotely?

Thanks for the info. I suppose routers have firewalls built in these days too, but something to be cautious of perhaps.

Never trust the router you get from your ISP. Set them up yourself, make sure their software is always up to date and so on.

The also slightly concerning thing is that you could assume the majority of GTO players will have a certain set of ports open.

I'm not sure how vulnerable that makes you externally if someone knows they are open and your IP address?

Obviously a troll kiddie who buys a mod menu will be able to do precisely jack with that info. Someone who can actually hack the game and write a mod menu on the other hand, who knows?

Even if you have a static IP (which you need to specifically ask your ISP for), geoIP results are the same. It only gives a very, very, very rough radius of where you might be. If I use geoip on one of my buddies who I know IRL, the location is off by many, many miles. It's pretty much worthless for doxxing, and you can't do much with that info alone.

I sincerely doubt that a hacker could access somebody's PC using nothing but their IP address. And, judging how most modders on GTA Online are script kiddies, I doubt they could pull l33t h4x out of their ass like that.

People being able to see your IP might be scary, but the worst that can happen is an angry skid tries to DDoS you for a few minutes before giving up. There really isn't much that can be done with it.

Judging by how GTA:O is peer to peer, I'm surprised that something like this hasn't already come out of the woodworks. P2P is sh*t security wise, and is done because Rockstar wanted to cheap out on dedicated servers.
