The difference is that (if I understand the situation correctly) most game developers started with a better structure, and are thus actually able to keep tighter reins on them than what R* chose to do in GTA Online from day one.

I think it's more accurate to say that most game developers start with a structure, whereas Rockstar just...didn't. Used P2P instead of servers and seemingly blindly accepted everything given by the client, one of many reasons why GTAO seems like babby's first foray into multiplayer gaming. Which is bullsh*t for a company as big as Rockstar, but hey, it earns them money, so...

I have two PC's and a PS4. I use my older PC for sp modding and use my New gaming PC for online but only to change what my character is wearing so I can do whatever video I am working on. If I want to go online for fun I will then just break out my PS4.

^^ Yes, there are hax in games--even TF2 with Valve's VAC--and heck, even World of Tanks, and early access games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

The difference is that (if I understand the situation correctly) most game developers started with a better structure, and are thus actually able to keep tighter reins on them than what R* chose to do in GTA Online from day one.

Yes I'd agree with that. But as above I also think hackers are more incentivised with GTO financially - people are more likely to pay for a mod as an alternative to shark cards, and the size of the player base is a factor.

But then Playerunknowns' Battlegrounds has sold a million copies in the few weeks since Early Access launch and is one of the most viewed games on Twitch as well.

The difference between PUBG and GTA Online is the fact that PUBG has launched with effective anti-cheat in place and they're being very good at removing cheats as they find them. (The hacks are up for about 48 hours or so, before the users are banned.) Plus they have daily server updates that means the anti-cheat is also being updated.

Since GTA went cheap and P2P, this doesn't happen and now things have come back to bite R* in the ass.

Rule one of any Online experience is simple : No matter the Online environment, there's always someone out to exploit it, either for their own financial gain or to simply prove they can exploit it.

They have updated the Background scripts.

Now it checks for specific events that gives you RP and $$ and limits it or prevents it.

So if someone is going to give you 1M RP, that won't affect you as the Background scripts limits it to 100 or less.

In other words, the temporary fix solve the problem regarding leveling up other players and taking their money or giving them money.

However the issue is still not fully fixed, it requires a new patch.

I wonder, anytime soon, R* may release a paid DLC, I ask the community, how can people still throw their money to a company that allow modders and hackers so easly to ruin the game's experience ?

We're all being clowns. sadly :(

Inb4 new mod menu that stops background scripts execution.

That won't do sh*t.

It would allow you to give yourself RP and $$ and that's not what the cheaters aim for.

The background script is like tunables.

You can check what it does.

Hmm; if this is such an effective anti-cheat method, makes me wonder why R* didn't do this years ago? (scratches own ignorant head)

It's also fair to say that not every public session is a mad house; but the problem is that you just never know.

Have personally been in too many "quiet, peaceful" sessions where things suddenly started happening to make any "all is well" assumptions (like last night, where my garage vehicles got removed, then weapons removed, then floating in the middle of nowhere, and then kicked back to Story Mode...all within 10 seconds or so.)

f*ck. You think I should just wait and hope they don't notice or should I make a ticket with them?

Do it. But even if you don't Rockstar will only deduct the extra money you had in your account by themselves when they notice it.

The message will say "Maze Bank has corrected your account by xxx amount. Sorry for the error" or something like that when you login. I had a few moneybags dropped on me a year ago, wasn't huge amount maybe about 100k in total but then it was taken from my account a few months later even though I had spent it in modding my vehicles.

No I'm sorry, this temporary fix isn't that great to make it safe.

They didn't fix the Hospital Bill thing so it remains not safe

^Yeah, I have heard about workarounds too. It's too soon to call it over IMO. But honestly, public sessions on PC were always doomed.

I think there is a bit of overplaying going on how bad hacking in the PC is in general.

I'm rank 256, have earned 80m odd, mostly in public sessions and it's been relatively trouble free. Yes I've encountered the odd hacker but it's been little more than a minor annoyance.

This latest episode is more concerning just because of how they can potentially manipulate others stats and bank accounts. Depends if R* can fix it quickly and permanently.

Imagine you have a list of 100 things you are capable of doing and someone managed to stop you from doing two things of your list.

What if I told you that's what R* did ?

Now how do you rate the situation from 1 to super-f*cked ?

Sooner or later someone will; from what I hear, already in progress with the car dupes issue.

It's a never-ending labyrinth of loopholes and workarounds; like a game of chess without a checkmate.

All morning while playing I keep seeing pop-up messages from other players about bounties in the 6-to-9 digit range... such as "PlayerX just collected a bounty worth 999999999" or something like that. I see text message about players killing someone and getting a huge bounty, and then others type "yeah, but did you really get the money"? It's pretty LOL. And then I lag myself out and play in peace and quiet by myself. LOL

Not sure if this was is response to my above post, but the situation right now I'd agree is very bad. I certainly won't be sticking my head above the parapet with my primary character.

Prior to this event was hacking really that bad though? Yes it was a problem. I can only go by my own experience however and I can probably count on one hand the number of times in the last two years a hacker has messed with me. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Don't want to trivialise the current state of affairs for one minute though. It all depends on whether R* can fix this quickly and properly.

Mentioned it before, but AFAIK the bounty thing is completely fake. Unless something has changed since December '16/January '17, it's just a bark without any bite.

Any bounties set on you over $9,000 can (and will) get "overwritten" by any bounty you get from stealing an NPC's car, or a legit bounty from another player (via Lester). And since that couldn't happen if the original, "fake" bounty was active (can only have one bounty at a time), then it's proof they are fake indeed. Happened to me last winter.

Am not a day one player like many here, but it appears (knock on wood) whatever R* did back in early 2014 to fix the

is still working today. Kudos to them finding a lasting solution for at least one issue!

Still to this day I wonder why R* ported this game to PC if they are not able to do an proper anti cheat system, I bet they do not gonna solve this as they did NOT solve PS3 and Xbox360 modders.

Safe enough it seems...

It all depends on what you call safe. I still see the raining money stuff happen as it did this morning when I got online for something I needed for a video. I had to be on a public server I got what I needed to be done just in the nick of time as some modder/hacker decided to freeze everyone in place and dump bags of money. I think I ctrl-alt-deleted in time as I don't see my account with more money than I had really. I may have gotten a few k but that was about it if any. I went ahead and opened a ticket to be on the safe side though. This has been the worst I have seen with modders/hackers and it all started after the last update. It was alway bad but now it is almost unplayable with so many of them in every server.

I might just wait... I can't help being paranoid that if I make a ticket they might just see it as a reason to ban me though. I can't even record the game because my hard drive is already pretty damn full, and I have no money for new ones. I already had to uninstall other games to make room for GTA...

Sure, I'll be annoyed if I save up a million for moving into Lombank and it all gets taken away but at least I won't be banned. The sad thing is, one of my friends is a modder (He has Menyoo and we just use it to f*ck around, he doesn't spawn money or mess with the more dangerous options, just fun things like beeping the horn for a boost and fixing import/export cars because a futo decided to make an illegal lane change in front of me) and when I watch the things he does it sounds easy to detect! "This client is sending hundreds of requests to spawn an explosion and each one is directly behind another player, someone grab the banhammer" ya know?

Hehe, MrBossFTW mentioned it was me/ my account that had all that money drained online, but the truth is I've not been online for a good bit of time now.

There were still some interesting comments on that video though.

Yes. It's been so bad lately that a session lasts for about 10 minutes before I'm switching to get away from invincible people, cars going double speed running me over, handheld Hydra cannons and railguns, being teleported to the ocean, being crashed, having tanks spawned on me, etc.. It's especially bad late nights on the west coast when China's awake.
