Informational/Technical Update 5 Feb 2023

An investigation into GTA Online's use of relay servers for P2P connections post-patch, aiding with shielding player's IP addresses

I feel like my post of it being $100 a year was completely overlooked.

Look I don't support the creator or the menu one bit, but there's plenty of morons who've spent far more than that on Shark Cards.

Spoilered because somewhat OT

Atleast Payday 2 folks woke up from the wrong sh*t they did with microtransactions but this is R* we are talking about where they are known to be out of touch by releasing sh*t quality content despite its free.

Didn't another company buy payday 2 or whatever and then they got rid of the micro transactions?

Kind of. I'm somewhat blurry on the details but from what I can remember Payday as a franchise was part owned by Starbreeze and partly by 505 Games. 505 had the controlling stake of Payday and got the microtransactions in to mass negative reactions. I think a year(?) later Starbreeze bought the rights back from 505 and got rid of them, but I'm sure that they would have been kept in had there not been backlash because $$$.

Well... new menu update

Now they can send you to flight school, send you to gtao tutorial, make you reload session, spam you with error screens (transaction failed), hide your rank bar, make you play tennis with bounty player, send you to warehouse, force Lamar to call you,"f*ck his game" option which disables weapon wheel map and more, sound spam (I'm guessing it spams annoying loud noises only you can hear) and break his game which they didn't show.

This is so f*cked, what a bunch of f*cking pathetic basement dwellers, I can't wait till Take Two smothers them with a pillow in court and can rockstar please f*cking hurry and fix this sh*t? It's been literally two whole f*cking weeks now since I've last touched a public lobby because of this sh*t. FIX. IT.

Hate to say it, but all evidence points to the fact that R* really doesn't care. Especially if Yan2295 is right about even less people/resources being allocated to GTA Online than ever before.

In a reverse psychology kind of way, I hope that GTA Online goes down in flames--on all three platforms--only because that's THE ONLY WAY R* and their profit-obsessed parent company Take Two are going to learn.

They've let their greed for profit stomp all over both the short- and long-term quality not only of the code, but game play and security. Not to mention virtually zero reinvestment to refresh a now completely stagnant map/world.

As good as it still might be (sans cheaters) GTA Online could have been a far, far better and deeper gaming experience. The original vision of what it was supposed to be has been replaced with a "stagnate and siphon money as long as you can" mentality...a lot like what Mehdi Ali and Irving Gould did to the Amiga years ago.

It's going to happen. Eventually the ps4 and xb1 will get their mod menu. That'll hurt R* the most and their LIVE streams.

Gta6 better have dedicated server and a solid anti cheat system.

Wrong there will not be hackers on PS4/Xbox1 until they are the main consoles. Like i said a few pages back. The monthly free that console players pay is what makes all games on console safe it acts like an anti-cheat that is why rockstar made online p2p and they will do the same for rdr2. It is just more cost effective + dedicated servers are not needed when you already have the protection in place. That is not the case for PC and so this is the reason for Online being what it is today. I am 95% sure the game will never be cheater free. And yet p2p in any complicated game equals bad matchmaking compared with dedicated servers, even in the best cases.

I just bought this piece of s...

Now I have to actually buy a game, since I don't want to expose my primary account.

Decided to go after R* Warehouse, since I assumed it would allow me have a fast and reliable download compared to other retailers.

And... guess what?

Your order has been submitted and is currently being processed. You will receive another email with the details of your order within 48 hours.

Lol. You've got to be kidding.

^ Well, to be fair, tt's downloading now. There was a delay in 10-15 minutes. Maybe they write 48 hours just-in-case ))

I didn't launch the cheat yet, but i've noticed that the hack still relies on DLL-hijacking. I know, it's not a trivial task for R* to prevent DLL-hijacking of every single library, but there are a few tricks in the industry to adopt.

If they can protect the game against this vector of attack, this would bring modders back to the stone age. Honestly, I think detecting of hijacking of the dinput8.dll is the first thing they should do in terms of making an anti-cheat and i'm surprised it wasn't done yet.

Posted this in the b&m thread.

These damn scriptkids somehow use the securoserv award message drop money in your account now.

These god damn scriptkids, urgh.

Delivered a car to my warehouse in Solo public, get out of the warehouse, character gets stuck (cant move, cant change camera), pause Menu "find new session".

I load into the new (public) lobby, spawn on my yacht and the first thing i notice is this "bling bling" phone sound combined with a message that securoserve gave me 50k for my services, showing up rapidly. Again "find new session".

Instead of the legit 3,5 Million in my bankaccount i now have around 1,5 Million in my chars pocket and around 6,4 Million in my bankaccount.

Logout gta, open rockstar supportpage, create a ticket, start up AC Syndicate.

Going to update my GTA V just to login in an invite only session just to be qualified on the tax rebate worth 425k for sh*ts and giggles so I better not get thrown the f*ck out on the public sessions even worse than hell.

I just joined a public lobby by mistake (forgot to enable the firewall rule) spawned into my garage and within 10 seconds my hud and radar disappeared and all 10 cars. I then went into the dry hump position lol with no one else there so quickly quit the game.

I was dreading the worse but everything was back in order when I restarted. So it looks like I'm gonna be on me lonesome for a while yet. I'm considering getting back on PS4, had some of the best times with good people in V during that time.

lol gun running

they'd better make it playable in invite only lmao oh wait that won't happen, they'll probably just make even more broken OP aimbot NPCs than Import/Export had if you're alone in the session...

Kurumas for the taking :).

^^ Honestly, IMO it's very much a "darned if you do" and "darned if you don't" situation.

There is a chance that R* Support will actually remove the money; but with the current epic mess, I certainly wouldn't count on it.

My agreement with the "mistake in sending a ticket to R*" isn't that you'll get in trouble for it; just that (in my personal experience) R* isn't a respecter of legit GTA$.

When R* did a money sweep on me in 2015 after I reported a "modded" GTA$ drop, they removed virtually ALL my GTA$ (IIRC about 60 million, left me with ~$250k)--not just the "modded" stuff. That included all three of the GTA$ types: "modded", legit-earned, and even a Shark Card purchase I had made (yes, I used to be one of those...not any more).

Anyway, it's just more proof that they cannot consistently identify which is which. They have to rely on other "clues" as to whether the GTA$ in question is legit, and those are very sketchy, at best...as is R* Support itself, as I've just found out the hard way in the last two weeks or so.

Again, if R* could successfully "tag" every bit of GTA$ with a tracker as to where it came from, they could simply run automated sweeps every day on their player base.

So at this point, not even the Swedish Chef can "unbork" their borked systems. lol

Btw if anyone does get hit by a hacker (eg firewall settings don't work and you end up in a populated lobby) I recommend the best way to avoid permanent impact is to hit your power switch (assuming it's in easy reach.)

I'm sure people will tell me it's not good for your PC, but it can be quick enough to prevent changes being saved to the cloud servers. Closing the game won't stop that.

We used that trick to avoid our criminal mastermind progress being reset by a death. Alt-F4 wasn't fast enough. A bit sneaky but effective.

I think it is preferable and actually faster to disconnect from the internet by unplugging the ethernet cable or pressing the wifi switch. You need to hold the power switch for about 3 seconds before the PC shuts down.

Yeah just pull Ethernet. Way faster, won't be bad for your machine, and you won't have to wait as long to re-boot and load in.

That'll work too depending on your set up. The power button on the front of my PC results in instant shutdown if pressed and is in easy reach - the Ethernet is round the back. Whatever's faster, you've got a second or two typically before changes save.

I don't recommend the dirty shutdown solution. Boot volume corruption will bite you eventually.

I'd just atl+tab and from the taskbar select disconnect from Internet.

That won't be quick enough to stop it saving to the cloud. Pulling the power or the physical Internet connection are the only viable ways in my experience.

I'd agree that it's not a good idea to do regularly. In a once off emergency though, I'd risk it versus having the character I invested years in screwed up. I've had more unavoidable dirty resets caused by power cuts than intentional ones.

Well a friend of mine had a similar problem a few weeks ago. He got a fast response from the support and they removed the "illegal" money within 48 hours (no problems with his legit money), thats why i did the same (create a ticket and all that).

If they remove my legit money, well sh*t not cool, but i rather have that happening then having my character reset to Level 1 and loosing all my stuff because i spend the dropped cash.

I would not sacrifice the PC hardware in order to save some aspects of the game account.

1) Yes, ethernet is a safer option.

2) You can also play around with some software utilities like SuperF4 or similar alternatives (+ native windows features) in order to instantly teminate the process without any messages from the game.

I was not aware of those, but something like that sounds like the best option. My experience from cloud saving for reference btw - my team's first run on Criminal Mastermind - the gas station tanks got hit in Trash Truck by a stray bullet and blew us all up. We all tried to shut down with ALT-F4 or CTRL-ALT-DEL - but it wasn't quick enough to stop the cloud save. I estimate you need to terminate the game in under two seconds, but obviously there's about a reaction time of about a second for you to realise something's wrong and move to act etc. But I'd imagine if a hacker started messing with your rank or bank balance, you'd have a similar window before the changes upload and save. A software solution with keyboard short cuts sounds like best thing to go with - less distance to move your hands than pull an Ethernet cable out for example.

Of course, I'd stay out of public lobbies altogether until the current mod menus are blocked by R* patches. But if a user doesn't set their firewall correctly to get their own "public" lobby before then, or indeed after the current hacks are patched, the new updated is eventually beaten by these turds (sadly, that's quite likely), having this kind of countermeasure in your back pocket I think is probably a good idea.

On a separate note, kudos to you flexcreator for buying a copy of the force menu to analyse. Best of luck with your research.

EDIT - Are there any hints as to where the what country the author(s) are from btw? You said it sounded like a professional job. One thing that occurred to me was maybe a disgruntled ex employee of R* might be involved. They must have sacked a few people over the last two years or so, whether fairly or unfairly, someone with that knowledge and a grudge probably would find this sort of thing easier to do. Just speculation on my part of course.

The paypal account seems to be linked with a person called Miguel A. Salek. That all the information I have.

> You said it sounded like a professional job.

I was wrong.

I was stupid enough not to recognize the commercial protector "VMProtect 3", sorry about that. They didn't write this protection themselves.

And they didn't write the dinput8-based loader. The loader belongs to Alexander Blade.

They are using the publicly available BeeEngine disassembler in the latest version.

The worrying thing is then it makes it all the more embarrassing for R* and the future of GTA Online if all this mess was caused by a less sophisticated outfit.
