have not seen anything with modders/hackers messing with people's ranks only thing I have seen is people blowing up entire lobbies, running in god mode teleporting everywhere to kill you, a weird mod where there were about 20 NPC's dressed as an online players with like squid masks and stuff while shooting RPG's at other NPC'S and online players.

I saw this yesterday for the first time. Almost all players level 222. I killed them for a while but then the cheater crashed my game. The game crashing thing is the worst, happen yesterday all 30 minutes. But R* is busy fixing those *gamebreaking* dupe glitches...

That's...not very logical. How exactly is it on the victim if somebody uses cheats to mess with them when it's the lack of any proper anti-cheat on Rockstar's end that's allowed it to become such a problem?

Actually, it is on rockstar for cheapening out with Anti-hacking stuff. It's just like EA they use fair fight but fair fight does not look for actual hacks they look for statistical anomaly's and not the actual hacks people use.

Although I don't know what backup protocols R* has I'd be very surprised if they don't take snapshots at regular intervals eg every day / week / month. Especially after the crash in the first weeks on old gen that caused loads of people to lose their characters. So I'd expect if a hacker inflated your rank you could have it corrected (maybe with a loss of a few hours progress). Anyone know more details on the specifics of how much progress history is saved?

Looks like I picked a good time to retire from this game (much more because it's gotten stale for me than because of cheaters.) It's really sad that it's two years since the cheat infested launch on PC and the only thing they've really been able to persistently shut down is cash drops. Adding more public free roam activities is pointless if you frequently get the teleporting player in. god mode who blows up your stuff.

Aye, it seems either last gen coders are working with PC coders, or selling such information. It's also ironic that these menus have protections coded into them so that the one using these things on other people, can't be affected themselves.

 

So again, the only people who "pay for it" and suffer are those legit players, minding their own business playing the game as intended.

I'd be surprised if R* don't have a strong legal recourse here.

 

Hacking in GTA IV was annoying but would have been hard to directly attribute a financial impact. Here someone is selling a tool that can add GTA $'s and thereby depriving Shark Card income from R*. Much as I'm no fan of micro-transactions, that's theft by strict interpretation. What's more the perpetrator is advertising their illegal activity on YouTube. I'm would think that R* could get a court order for Google and the ISP of the user to reveal the culprit's real life identity.

 

It's definitely possible in the UK where ISPs can be obliged to reveal the identity of people pirating movies, software and music. I suppose they might run into difficulty depending on what country the author(s) is based in.

Meanwhile, R* works on gun running DLC which functionality, I can only imagine, will probably be restricted to public sessions exclusively.

 

Yeah, I usually avoid public lobbies like fire, with exception of doing heists with randoms if there's no friends online and I'm bored, and vehicle exports, but of course these only in solo public sessions. This revelation is bad, bad news for everyone, and I definitely won't be visiting any public sessions anytime soon. Contrary to money bags, cages blocking warehouses' entrances or even mass killings, new level won't disappear when you change the session, and as was stated by OP, could result in other players reporting you an kicking you out of lobbies/jobs. That's a legitimate concern, not just paranoia.

I'm prettty sure they will try to do something about it. When the insurance cheat first came up, insurance for destroying pvs was disabled within a day. The same will happen to the hospital bills.. hopefully. Joining actual public sessions now is a bad idea though.

well this is the reason why i haven't bought MINOR STEAL CAR Failure and gone to it's Offline mode on PC. the only reason why i'd get it is for FiveM (or something similar) and that liberty city add-on
