Using the police impound to hand cars off between players?

I'm not sure what the best way is to do this(at least when you're actually trying to, of course) but, after completing the game for the first time, I bought Franklin the Adder(Bugatti Veyron). Anyways, I don't know how it happened but, I was actually able to retrieve Franklins Adder from the impound with Trevor.

 

Did I stumble upon an easy way to do this? It's kinda cheesy that Rockstar only allows Franklin to buy a Los Santos Customs shop and not the other two characters. Especially that they don't even make it to where purchased vehicles respawn at the safe houses like the default vehicles do and if you wait too long, you may not even get it back from the Impound.. like I learned the hard way on. Lol. First thing I did after beating it the first time was buying the garage for Trevor and ordering the big Sandwinder pickup, or whatever it's called, the great big F-350 Ford pickup...lol. Had it all decked out for him, took it to the trailer in Sandy Shores and ended up taking it back to the city to go get the drug van for his mom. Ended up losing the truck because at that time I didn't know what o know now about the impound so, I guess I lost it for good. Never could find it anywhere.

Back on PS3 I found the impound is unique for each charactr and the other can't retrieve vehicles left by other 2.

 

If you need to swap cars, just get the 2 characters to the same location, walk away with the owner of the vehicle and use the 2nd character to get the car and drive off. Again on PS3, not sure about other platforms, the vehicle gets transferred and in case of character-specific vehicles such as Bodhi it gets duplicated.

I guess I forgot to mention that this was on the PS4 version of the game but, I'll have to try that.
