That's called Poe's Law, when parody and reality are so close you often cannot tell them apart.

Regardless, I'm glad, never bought RDR, thought it too old to buy. I only started really playing games in 2010. Fantastic work, keep it up!

RDR came out in 2010...

Again, thought it too old. Never said I was smart.

As long as you don't apply the same logic to women, you'll be alright.

Any plans on porting over missions and such, or is that just not possible/legal?

I foresee a Back to the Future submod being made for this after it comes out.

Please recruit aditional scripters. For this project the scripting needs dedication and perfectionism since it'll potentially be the core of the mod (e.g. riding horses and lassoing people).

Please recruit aditional scripters. For this project the scripting needs dedication and perfectionism since it'll potentially be the core of the mod (e.g. riding horses and lassoing people).

But where do you recruit these scripters? Do they grow on trees or something?

But for real, it's written in FAQ that anyone can join and help, especially if they are the scripters.

Q: Can I help develop this mod?

A: Sure! We are always open to expand our team. We are mostly looking for programmers who are able to help us reverse engineer the file formats. We are also looking for scripters who are able to remake any of the game's original content over to GTAV, think minigames and certain mechanics such as Dead Eye Targeting. If you have experience creating normal, specular and height maps, you are also welcome.

When possible, we will also need converters for Vehicles, characters and animals.

At last! My dreams of Back to the Future 3 in the world of RDR are now going to be a reality! I can't wait for all the machinima and videos to come out!

Where can we donate towards development?

The Back to the Future mod is great, but I wish it supported add ons.

Well if it doesn't support addons maybe somebody will develop it. I am too busy working on my 1950-53 Korean War total conversion mod for BF2 called Battlefield: Korea to start it myself.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/battlefield-korea

All of the content needed for a BTTF addon for the RDR conversion mod already exist, so that is the easy part. Really all that would be needed is a good scripter to slap something together with the available content out there.

I for one would love to see a horse drawn version like they tested in the movie.

@Anthony817

I'm not sure if it will work, but if I can find the vehicle name in the file via a hex editor, it may be possible to change it. But it could very well be a hash.

Anyways, back on topic.

It's not just any simple map. It's going to try and replicate Red Dead Redemption as much as it can in the full release with unique characters, weapons, animations, scripts, etc from RDR. This is of course going to be most likely implemented after the map is finalized. There won't be any of GTA V's map left. An example is the bounty system that I am rewriting for the mod, it won't be wanted stars anymore and cops chasing you around in cars, a posse of lawmen will round up in horses and chase you instead.

Yeah and we've also not seen any project that huge before on V, nor even IV, so expectations wise, I'm saying people should expect the map to be actually released and playable. It's easy to dream big but projects like this would require a sh*t load of time and effort to maintain afterwards and a lot of people just lose interest and move on.

For me personally, I would be happy if the free roam element was at least there.

For example, the LCS/VCS Stories mod for GTA VC. The LCS version practically has the free roam part in.

So basically:

-All of the map

-All transportation modes

-Protagonist

-Animations

-Weapons

-Peds

-etc...

Now when we get into mission territory, that is where things get dreamy.

@zzcool

Horses wouldn't look silly. The Ride a Deer mod doesn't look bad. All you really have to do is attach the player to the animal in a riding position, then control the animal. Not very hard to do. Personally, I'd rather ride around this map via horse, or in the car that was in RDR, or via driving the train. To be honest, the only semi modern car that I would drive around the RDR map in is the Back to the Future car. lol. But that would just be for sh*ts and giggles. I'd rather use a historically accurate mode of transportation.

Speaking of that, I do believe that in 1911, they did have bicycles. If I am correct and you decide to include them, they should be much less common. Not cruising around that is.

well if the animation can be made better than the awkward riding a deer mod then yeah it would be a great idea

I think it's funny how some people are guessing at what can be done, what should be easiest and what should be hardest. (Not talking trash, I'd be like them if I had any semblance of a life)

I always had this question: Is there any GTA IV leftover in RDR? Like an actual spawnable car or even files from V?

Nice project, I cant wait to see more updates. Good luck!

Eh, I doubt that. There are 2 vehicles that I know of in RDR, like the Ford model A and the pre-WW1 era Armored car. They are only static models, but how awesome it would be to make them working.

I doubt significant files would be left over from IV like peds or buildings and drivable vehicles, they completely changed a lot of the engine to make it best for horse riding, horse drawn carriages, and Wagons as well as the Dead Eye mechanics.

So with that being said, I am almost positive actual self propelled vehicle code was either removed, converted into wagon physics, or disabled in that fork of the engine.

You need to know that RDR2 was built on a RAGE version customized heavily by San Diego (as RAGE tech engineers are resident at that studio), it has completely no ties to the gta versions of RAGE.

Also the resources are a mess sometimes , inconsistent container storage + some debug shizzle left over.

As i can remember , i heard that the sourcecode in it's own was a nightmare.

As far as i can tell about RDR3 also is that it's probably build on RAGE version from Rockstar North as it's shading is very similar to V's plus adding some San diego stuff in it , i could be wrong tho.

That Ford model A is a fragment , it could technically be converted to a workable gta 5 car.

The bicycle dates back to the early 1800s. So you're correct that they had bicycles in 1911, however, the popularity of bicycles were declining in the US at that time due to the readily availability of Henry Ford's Model T. The bicycles of then did not look like ones featured in GTAV, but they did function like them. The only bike in GTA5 that looks similar to the bikes of 1911 would be the beach cruiser bike.

If anything, I'd say to not have bicycles in the mod would be historically inaccurate.

Agreed. Personally, I think that the only place to find bicycles and RDR's Model T equivalent would be Blackwater.

I think making the Ford you find in Blackwater the only 1 in the game would be fine if made driveable. Make it something you have to take care of when driving around the map. You wreck it and it blows up you have to go all the way back to Blackwater to see it respawn. Also it has to dive very slow like cars of that time period, maybe no faster than the actual car, 40–45 mph (64–72 km/h).

By the way, looks like somebody hex edited the Ford into a wagon in the actual game on Xbox or PS3.

You even see the Armored car in the second half of the video. I think that could be the equivalent of unlocking the tank in GTA.

So with speeds somewhere between a Forklift and an Airtug. Maybe about the speed of the Dock Handler.

But I would say that it would be better if the vehicles were add on so they can properly be named, and you can effect the handling right from the DLC RPF.

On the other hand, if you wanna add some other historical content to spice things up, I believe the Write Brothers had their first flight in 1903.

1440056429218.jpg

Plus it would make a historically accurate reminiscent to the Dodo flying in GTA III. Record the max times people stayed in the air. I believe the RDR map has plenty of open fields to spawn one of these so people can see how many seconds they can get it to stay airborne, along with the max altitude, and distance. :)

I bet I could rack up a decent flight if I fly the thing off a cliff. :D

Hell, here is another way you can be creative. That steam ship at the opening cut scene (You know, the one that kinda sorta parallels with GTA IV's opening cut scene). I bet you can make that a ship that can be driven. We have giant aircraft carriers in GTA V as drivable vehicles, so its definitely possible. Plus it should be possible to turn the propellers sideways so they function as the big wheel. Only thing is, the wheel may turn too fast, but it may be possible to slow it down.

Wow, this is just amazing. Driving this Fordham's car always was my dream since I saw it first time in Mexico cutscene when John captured Escuella.

Looking for the creator of this mod, want to test this a lot.

Judging from other forums a lot of people actually want to be able to spawn off road vehicles and bikes, to give them a chance of exploring this map in a completely new way and to also take advantage of the vast different terrain on offer in this map.

Imagine how fun the horse racing paths would be if they used Sanchez's.

Can we use the native trainer with it to spawn vehicles?

Also how big will the download be one it's released?

Why not? It's just a map mod after all, plus a few additions from jedijosh920.
