• play in an empty public session so no playerleft will interrupted your "cargo"
• land the Bob on your office helipad - you'll receive it back in mind condition ready for use

That's like trying to describe the ocean when you have never seen it.

I've seen it quite a lot when helping randoms. And I ask them about it, and almost everyone has the same answer, that it happens a lot. ( Yea I do associate work for randoms still. :-| )

 

And it happened to me twice when another random was carrying my Ruiner to the top of Chiliad, you know when it released, to see if it makes it to LSIA. The barge mission, though, the Bob has never failed me then. I almost always bring the car in with 0 - 500 damage.
