Middle Earth: Shadow of War.

I thought the first one was pretty good, but not legendary or GOTY material that so many people seemed to claim it is. Dragon Age: Inquisition was definitely the rightful GOTY for 2014. I thought the Nemesis system was cool and unique, but it had its issues. Like how there would always be a cutscene whenever you're even relatively close to a general (or whatever they were called). There were so many times where I'm trying to run past them, only to be forced into a cutscene that I don't want to watch and an Orc is talking to me that I don't even want to kill. That got annoying quick. I also thought the story and characters could improve. Wasn't invested in any of the characters and wasn't really on the edge of my seat with the story. The world was also really empty in the first one. I would like to see a variety of locations in the next one too. Not just dark, rainy, and grey Mordor. It would be nice to get some vivid and beautiful locations from Middle-Earth. But, seeing the Nazgul and Balrog in the trailer has me interested in this one. I'll definitely pick this one up. But, probably wait for the inevitable GOTY/Complete edition first.

It looks like it's leaving its roots of being a stealthish type game in favour of area domination? Not complaining I like the concept. The fighting looks really fluid as well. Seems like it's going to be a good game.

well the first one can be stealthy if you choose it to be, its very easy to survive even when surrounded by 20 plus enemies

I disliked the first one for being too much like Assassins Creed, but loved the nemesis system. I remember first starting the game, pissing off some warlord or whatever he was. Anyway before i even knew how to play the game i ran up to him and fought him, he kicked my ass after that for months and months until he got to a ridiculously high level. I finally took him out in the end but damn he grew to be a problem. The nemesis system is seriously something GTA should incorporate into their game.

I'm not even a fan of LOTR or middle earth themed sh*t but this game looks good to me. I like the idea of creating my own army and having dynamic progression based on who i piss off and conquer.

EDIT: I remember the map being extremely boring and strangely designed on Shadow Of Mordor. It was repetitive as everything was dark and gloomy which was to be expected as it's middle earth but there was just something about it. Wasn't nice to look at or interesting/fun to explore.

Hopefully they've addressed this issue.

I agree. It's funny, but the setting is exactly what killed my interest in the first game. It's a very well made game. Very polished, runs great, does everything that it needs to do with perfect execution and it innovates with the Nemesis system. But there's just not much that you can do with this setting. The setting is very important and so is the variety in gameplay, and that's where it doesn't deliver.

First Assassin's Creed was boring in large part because it lacked variety, and I know that the first game has been compared to AC a lot. And then we have another game on the opposite side of the fun spectrum that Shadow of Mordor borrows from - Batman Arkham series. Batman games are fun because of the setting and the variety of things that you can do. It's not just about fighting thugs in the street. There's stealth gameplay, puzzles and other obstacles, various fun gadgets, gliding and in Arkham Knight even driving.

Shadow of Mordor didn't have any of that. Perhaps some of the problems of the first game were due to the fact that they had to make sure there's a playable version for the PS3 and Xbox 360? Perhaps they just couldn't think of anything more to do with it. In any case, the core gameplay is not something that I have any interest in revisiting, so I'll most likely pass on this one.

???

The second map was colorful and vivid so i'm not sure what you're referring to, here. Did you stop playing the game mid way through at the first map? because if you didn't wait till the second half you really missed out. That's when the game opens up and you get all your abilities; including properly bending Uruk to your will.

The nemesis system and some genuinely well done core gameplay is what stops the game being an exercise in tedium. It's what Assassin's Creed would have been had they stuck with some of the core aspects of the first game rather than completely ditch them all together.

I'm guessing you mean Nurn? I forgot about this section of the game, but looking back on youtube, it's basically Mordor with green grass haha.

The Witcher 3 is what i would consider an interesting, well designed map. Nurn on Shadow of Mordor is once again, strangely designed and not nice to look at. In my view, it only seems nice to look at because it has the colour green in it. Whereas Mordor was predominately black.

My interest in this game dropped to 0,00%. Shadow of war will require a permanent online connection for singleplayer.

f*ck this no thanks. There's nothing more annoying than connecting every time for a SINGLEPLAYER GAME. What the f*ck are they even thinking? Why waste space on their servers just to annoy the sh*t out of the players?

I'm sick and tired of this always online bullsh*t!

Microtransactions

f*ck Warner Bros.

Monolith is an awesome dev, always bringing out quality stuff. But I can't support this practice.

This just got downgraded from Day One to 50% sale.

Yeah, in a $60 AAA title it's inexcusable. Their official story that it's for people who want to get through the game easier is bullsh*t. That's what good old cheats are for.

That's like eating a damn good meal as fast as you can because you don't want to enjoy it at much as you can.

This kind of thinking is incredibly ass-backwards. Not only is the choice to have microtransactions stupid, but the "reasoning" behind it is even more asinine.

Microtransactions huh? Make the game F2P then. Suckers. We don't want this sh*t in SINGLEPLAYER RPGs.

Bet the grind in this game is gonna be a chore now to encourage players to buy this bullcrap. I couldn't care less about some lousy MP features that will die in 2 weeks anyways.

The moment I've heard about always online rumors, I knew something smelled fishy here. My interest is still 0,0% now.

Yep. The very fact they are in the game, inevitably means things will be balanced towards a more grindy way to encourage you to buy some microtransactions. On a friggin $60 AAA Single Player game. Wanna help people get through the game easier? Add cheats, add a difficulty setting.

By adding microtransactions, they're giving a huge middle finger to their supporters. Shame. Game looked actually pretty awesome.

My only problem with Shadow of Mordor is that I am a slight Tolkien nerd, and it doesn't gel with his lore as well as almost every other writing or adaptation of his work. That's my only problem with that game, and I don't expect it to change with Shadow of War. I love the gameplay, I love doing photo mode as I cut a goblin's head off.

I'd really love the game if it was based on a new IP.

"Have you heard? One of our colleagues died!"

"sh*t... let's make him a DLC!"

This just happened.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-09-01-shadow-of-war-developer-who-died-of-cancer-immortalised-as-an-in-game-orc-slayer

I have nothing against honoring a dead colleague in a game. But this? Sell a new companion named after him.. as a dlc? It's disgusting to make a cash grab out of it! Man, I just feel so bad about it. I really don't want to make a big deal out of it but this feels so damn wrong.

If they really wanted to honor him, they wouldn't f*cking sell him for extra cash. Only those who pay extra money will see this developer honoured. This is not right.

If they really wanted to honor him, they would sell it and donate the profits to his family. Are they? Go ahead, check it out, read the article. Oh, I can't wait, I'll just tell you. Yes they are. They are donating the profits to his family.

Stop trying to be outraged by everything.

Actually, they are donating SOME of the profits to the family. Not ALL of the profits. Which means WB is keeping some profits. Just look at the dislikes and some of the comments, other people are upset with this BS as well. This is taken from the description of the announcement video:

"WB Games will donate to the Forgey family $3.50 from every purchase of the Forthog Orcslayer made from any 1 of the 50 United States or D.C. (but, excluding purchases made from AL, HI, IL, MA, MS and SC) through December 31, 2019. Void where prohibited by law. Your purchase is not tax deductible."

I feel dumb for not reading the whole thing. You know how rumors spread, just copied the included link and moved on. You got me there what can I say :p

Still, it doesn't feel right to do a tribute in form of a dlc. They could've simply take part of the game's profit and include the tribute in the main game. He worked on the project and not on the dlc, so he should've been included in the game. That's why it looks like a rather disturbing cash grab, even if most of the profit goes to the family. I'm from Europe so the family won't get a cent from me.
