What tyres are people using these days for racing?

Recommended Posts

The stock wheels look the best

You'd have to be a seriously top top tier driver to benefit from different tyres...they make a tiny difference but not as much difference as your driving.

I've held three WRs and won around 3000 races without ever basing my tyre choice on what is supposedly best for racing.

My z type WR on under the wing for example (xb1) was achieved with its stock wheels and I used a curb boost area to get that bit extra speed.

To answer your question, yes people still use Off Roads and Tuner wheels because they are "better" but like the others have said, man, it really doesn't make that much of a difference at all. Especially on Stunt Tracks.

I prefer stock rims on cars that are unique(Nero Custom, X80 Proto, Comet Retro Custom)

OP: I'd stay with the stock if you want the Chiron Gran Turismo feel. But I'd go with Offroad Wheels for an armored look

Off-topic: Does Pure and Brush Gold affect vehicle acceleration? I noticed the Export X80 was struggling to get up to speed when it was Golden but not anymore when I did it again with a normal paintjob

Thanks guys.

I do usually race a lot so I take note of the tyres people recommend.

I think its the tyre thickness that matters.

I usually use offroad tyres on my vehicles. But like Mach1bud said.. I have noticed the tyre differences dont seem to matter in stunt track racing.

I'm just saying mate I achieved this with stock tyres and all my other fast times in the top ten in the world were achieved without putting ridiculous off road tyres on a supercar.

Tyre type doesn't matter for most vehicles. So use whatever you want. But there are some that work best with off road wheels. Take a look at this spreadsheet

In basic handling data, look for tyres can clip. Those are the vehicles that benefit with off road wheels

Hatal Cyborg thats an airport track. No bumps so no need for offroads. Try Panic Stations instead ;)

So then off roads are only useful on bumpy tracks then?

It seems then that most tracks the cars don't need off-roaders then

I'll never put off-road tyres on anything other than an off-roader or some SUVs...they look stupid on anything else and the difference in performance is only going to be noticeable if you're an absolute God

Exactly, they only make a difference on bumpy roads/curbs. Only certain cars benefit anyways and none of them are Coupes, Sedans or Compacts.

These cars and these cars only benefit from OR tires......

Super: ETR1, RE7B, FMJ, Osiris, T20, Reaper, Turismo, Tyrus, X80 and Zentorno.

Sports: Both Jester's, both Massacro's, Omnis, Tropos and Feltzer.

Sports Classic: Stirling GT and Stinger GT.

Off-Road: Both Insurgent's and both Sandking's.

Muscle: Nightshade.

LOL. Yes, yes I am. Why?

That would be info from a top racer that found all the "tires can clip" cars and listed them in a very detailed thread about the use off off road tires and why they work the way they do. He and a few others have about 10k in wins between them so I figure they know what they are talking about.

By all means though, keep on believing what you want, doesn't matter to me because I was just sharing the info I had on hand from a trusted source.

LOL Not about believing, it's about fact. What you posted about the vehicles is vastly false. Try going against top racers with offroad tires here on the XBOX ONE and see what happens. LOL

Real gamer don't play on the One silly.

It's information taken directly from the game files; you can't argue with it. Unless you're an idiot.

Off-road is best, Tuner/Lowrider/Muscle are all tied for 2nd, Sport/SUV/High-end are last.

Only a small amount of cars in the game can take advantage of these wheels, with most of them receiving absolutely no benefit or disadvantage from having/not having off-road wheels.

For the majority of cars that can make use of these wheels, they only serve to improve the way the car reacts to bumps and curbs, while the Tyrus, ETR1 and RE-7B benefit from much greater traction thanks to the Downforce stat working in combination with Tyres Can Clip to get the cars even lower to the ground, therefore achieving more grip.

Aside from that, you can pick (or not pick) any wheels you like and it won't make a difference.

Wash your mouth out with soap and water sir. How very dare you. The xbox 1 is where the creme de la creme of racers reside..... although I reserve the right to revise this opinion if I ever switch to PS4 or PC. ;-)

I can't shake the completely unsupported by fact feeling that there's more to it than clipping. I swear my saber drives noticeably better with sport wheels, ditto the comet retro with muscle. I suspect the diameter of the wheel does have some affect on handling, if not measurable top speed or acceleration. If true, it would explain why there's nothing in the code to back it up, it's more like the suspension glitch mechanic than actual numbers going up and down. Or the placebo is strong with this one.

I disagree with those saying it makes no significant difference unless you're top tier... even as an average driver you will notice a big difference with many cars if you put off-roads on, they don't look the best but they sure as hell drive the best imo.

It's a completely unqualiable and anecdotal statement...

The fact I can set WRs without ever bothering with changing tyres for any reason beyond aesthetic purposes I think speaks volumes more than your anecdotal proof...I have a screenshot of a WR in which I used the stock rims...there's my qualification.

There are undoubtedly better drivers than me of course and I think amongst the very top tier perhaps they need something to get that fractional edge over each other...especially if they're hitting curbs like crazy to get more of an edge.

But to you decent drivers who I suspect I could easily dispatch...it's a placebo and perhaps you like to appear to be so pro because you use off road tyres?

I've never bothered with it...it's ridiculous

You are entitled to your opinion man but go and drive a bumpy street circuit back to back between off roads and normal and you'll see the difference, doesn't really make much difference on things like airport tracks but anything with bumps and you'll feel it.

I just bought the Nero Custom yesterday and I'm at the stage where I want to buy specialized wheels.

Are people using the offroad, tuners etc?

Well, if you want to go complete nerd, you need to check out Ch1ll1's google document Car Upgrades & Dynamics where you can read everything that you need to know about car upgrades. To sum up the answer to your question: tires can effect your car in two ways. For cars with the modifier tires_can_clip the thicker the tire the better it is at absorbing bumps. The other thing is that different wheels (not type) have different effects such as anti-roll, understeer, oversteer (for specific wheel names see doc). Also Ch1ll1 is currently testing is the traction model are different between the tyre types, no answer on that yet.

Unless you're super into racing, and can feel when you're pushing a car to its limit, then I honestly wouldn't bother fine tuning what wheels you put on your cars. I'm a regular in NODO PC and I still (with the exception of race events) is using what I think look best.
