This game feels depressing

Recommended Posts

LazlowsucksiloveslutS

It feels so strange, replaying after 10 years (my previous playthrough must have been around 2008/2009).

The graphics are so sh*tty. Camera movement is limited. And the whole city feels like a ghost town. At night, most of the buildings are completely dark, like nobody lives in them. Only couple of skyscrapers downtown have lights on at night. This game feels really old school. San Andreas is different, it is much more fun, its cities are full of life and gameplay is overall more enjoyable. GTA SA does not feel as outdated as GTA VC.

Some people say the game has "atmosphere" What f*cking atmosphere?

And soundtrack isn't that great either. "I won't be missing you at all..." WTF? You gotta be homosexual to call this a great soundtrack.

In the future if I wanna revisit Vice City, I'd rather replay Vice City Stories than the original VC. VCS has way better graphics, gameplay and soundtrack. Plus, you can swim.

It is indeed old school, and that's why love it even more. Same reason why I still play GTA 2. Regarding atmosphere, I don't know how to describe my sentiments on this. There's something about the mood and vibe that makes it really amazing to simply drive around and enjoy the map. I think you're looking at the game with the 'realism' blinkers on, otherwise certain areas of the city feeling like a ghost town shouldn't bother you much, considering how old the game is.

The cartoonish graphics, brilliant story, atmosphere with the good old soundtrack still continues to pull me back into the game.

Its dated and has design 'flaws' but I can easily put up with them because of the factors I just mentioned above. If old games with their dated feel don't attrack you then I guess its best to quit playing Vice City and just cherish the memories of those experiences when you enjoyed the game in the past.

Fella idk what graphics did you expect from a game that is 15 years old. The atmosphere is great. And you dont have to be a homosexual to like good music. VCS looks like a cartoon, the colors are awful. The game has flaws but i can put up with them because it has a great story, soundtrack and characters.

Well, to be honest, I too was in the same boat with what must have been in retrospect a ton of gamers who thought Vice City was the game to have and play back from the day it was released to, about

2006. Nowadays, I still think it's a good game, but I just don't have the same mindset and train of thought like I did back then. As video games become older (along with the rest of us and things in life),

people's perspectives on past things and ideals change and sometimes the past isn't what we truly remember it to be. If you think there's better games to make do with than Vice City, then that's the

true sign you're ready to move on and call a spade a spade.

The only thing depressing about Vice City is it's mediocre map.

Whoa, just take it easy man. It's just a GAME. A lot of hate against an 2002 game supposed to be a PS2 exclusive including a lot of limitations by the time we were on. Did you expect ragdoll physics?...

If you are comparing it against to games from 2016/2017 like GTA V, Mafia 3 and all those last gen games then you have a problem... Vice City will feel always depressing comparing against last gen games or past gen games in terms of physics, graphics, whatever, even San Andreas will be better "Hey, why can't swim on Vice City but on San Andreas we can? Damn, old crap game". About the soundtrack, that part killed me, but I don't will going deeper on this one, only look at the soundtrack list and see who are the artists involved into it. And for last, I don't know if it's only me but your post seems to be only a provocation to discussion or trolling, whatever.

You think this is depressing? GTA III is wrist-slashing-worth level of depressing. Most depressing (not sad, or emotional, but plain out depressing) story in all of GTA IMO

OP has issues with good music. VC's soundtrack is what made the game so grate because it had actual songs unlike III's random sh*t. Yes III did have a couple known songs but very few. The soundtrack to VC was grate giving it all the 80's vibe to it. Honestly if you couldn't see VC's 80's atmosphere then your blind as hell. That's was whole point of VC's vibe to adress the 80's with some Scarface in to it.

I mean what in the hell are you expecting from an old ass game from 2002? Lmao i don't see the whole point of complaing how flat and depressing VC is. VC has aged very badly along with III, and SA. All these old gta games have all shown their age.

First of all - the game was released in 2003, you know? Some of the forum members were not even born yet. And just like someone said - roaming around Liberty City in GTA3 is much more depressing, at least Vice City is a representation of Miami. Don't get me wrong, I love GTA3.

And about the soundtrack - the events in GTA Vice City take place in 1986 so the soundtrack is completely accurate. That's what the people listened to back then.

This is what usually happens when you play GTA 4 or 5 first.

I can agree that VC hasn't aged very well in some aspects, but what you just said right there is plain awful.

Ok, this just turned into a sh*tstorm fueled by personal opinions. Everyone has an opinion on the game and its contents. Some think it's a classic, some think it's just old, some like the soundtrack, some think it's gay, some think it's the best GTA evah, some don't. So how about we stop the sh*tstorm here before someone gets a warning/banned over personal opinions?

Yeah, he called all of us gta vc music loving gta f members gay. Thats not an insult, still I can count me to there too, many people just have to protect gta vc as its the best game ever created. It's a game that allows us to collect all special vehicles in one save and it has a great storyline. Some weak stuff like jumping out ouf the way when a car speeds up on you.

San Andreas depresses me more than Vice City does mostly because CJ's a whiny c*nt compared to Tommy.

Granted Vice City has aged (to be honest no 3D era GTA has aged well), but it's still a fun game to pick up and play.

I recently put down GTA V (because the only thing left to do in that game is grind cargo and VIP work to make money to play comfortably apart from story mode) and have gone back to the ps2 classics.

It is definitely a downgrade. I am 24 years old, so I've played the 3d trilogy from their beginnings. Video games are all about imagination. The only part of Vice City that depressed me back in the day and STILL DOES to THIS day is that bridge from the golf course leading the the second mainland. It's ALWAYS barren. Nobody around. Always feels erie driving across that bridge at night.

Cruising the city is about using your imagination. Ghost town or not, it's an old game, use your imagination to live in the city.

The only thing that truly bothers me going back to the old trilogy is the mass spawning of duplicate pedestrian models. I know they couldn't do much back then, but even so I use my imagination when playing to see the game for what it is, and to see each pedestrian as a new person (even if 3 of the same bikini roller skaters just passed me in front of the Ocean View Motel 😂)

I think OP is just trolling, but that's just me :p hehehe

VC is a great game, but I gotta admit, I didn't like the soundtrack too much either. Probably because the 80's never appealed to me that much, I'm the rare kind of a 90's guy. I'm aware that most people love its soundtrack, fine, love it! :) I understand everyone has his own opinions therefore I don't insult anyone who has a different taste regarding music.

To be honest, and I know it might sound like i got my panties in a twist with this and some might believe its a rant(its not). OP is kinda insulting me with the aspect of how he gives his opinions on the soundtrack with the homosexual pun. Just to make it clear I'm a heterosexual, I love women. Ok anyways back on topic... The music is probably one of the best complied into a video game, and I'm not being biased. The music that was placed indeed at the time it was released on the billboard hits for music. lets just put it at that, that why they are so memorable. On the aspect that its dead, well, for one, its an old game with dated aspects of gameplay and graphics. second, ROCKSTAR focused solely how the world revolves around the character and the story wise. It was never intended to have an "independent" world, because, the technology wasn't there at the time. DUDE, its 2002.

I will respect OPs opinions on why he believes this game isnt worth his time. Its ok, not everyone has the same tastes in video games. I understand. Though, I perceive through his writing and i may be wrong, that he's an entitled graphics and modern gaming muggle that probably played GTA IV as his first grand theft auto. AND he isn't used to the "atmosphere" that one has to create to believe the theme of the game. I understand that too. /rantnotrantover.

Mabye the game was released later in other countries? The correct date was 2002 but mabye in other parts of the world VC was released a year later. Not really sure though. If not then he was just mistaken.

Show me game with better gameplay mechanics (in all ways ofc, not just one better feature, and rest would be worse) than VC from 2002.

It was released in 2002 as a playstation 2 exclusive as was GTA3 it finally hit pc in may 2003 and xbox in october,

Back then like a lot of people GTA3 and ViceCity where the main reason for buying a PS2, although after the games got released on pc i never used my PS2.

I still own both ps2 and XBOX and have all 3 3d gta's plus LCS and VCS on ps2.

I think anyone who says ViceCity is depressing is perhaps coming from the later games to the 3D ones, i even admit that ViceCity hasnt aged well, but at the time and the hardware available it was a great game, The thing with the PS2 is it only had 32mb of ram the XBOX had 64mb, The memory on PS2 was not enough for the game to be stored into memory, so it is streamed from the disc, the basic code of the game is in memory but nothing else. The engine used for the 3d games is called Renderware, desighned for the PS2, it has been likened to direct X on a pc. When the game was ported to PC and XBOX ( xbox is a pc remember) you are almost emulating the game because the Renderware engine was desighned for PS2, It was limited in what it could do and bringing it to PC didnt make it any better in someways it got worse.

Im probably wearing rose tinted glasses when i play it, i know it has faults i just dont see them i just play it because its a great game.

tbh I kinda think Vice City is depressing, but I grew up with it. I loved the hell out of it and then I moved to Florida and then realized that Vice City looks nothing like Florida in real life. Now it's just depressing to play, like now I have that thought stuck in my head on how dumb the layout and everything is of the map.
