For some time I thought this was a fun little feature but I never really got to use it.

What are your thoughts on this feature? With all the alternatives in communication like party chat, the text messages, PSN or Xbox live messages and in the case of PC the open text chat, do you see any usefulness in this? Perhaps at some point during the game you've called up an opponent to see if you could taunt them or talk to them without having to slowly send texts. Maybe you annoyed a friend by calling them.

Just curious to find out what you think about it. Maybe it's something that is ignored by many or maybe people are using it all the time and I just don't know about it.

Personally I guess it would depend mostly on the platform and your own personal settings. I've got my voice chat set to crew and friends so in a public session I wouldn't hear other players. But also have no intention of calling them. If I feel like interacting with someone I just send them a text. Usually if I'm playing with someone on my list we'll be in a party anyway. But it seems convenient that (if I am not mistaken) you can call friends that aren't even in your session. It did cost me 10 dollars to even attempt to call people, though.

My only reason to call another player:

• The single, best distraction technique when sending a mugger on someone.

Even if they don't answer, the phone popping up is enough to get them hit.

Honestly, I completely forgot you could.

I had forgotten as well, for a little while. I think it was an option in the last GTA if memory serves. Always liked the idea, it was a bit more roleplay-ish than other options available in the game.

But in my personal experience it didn't get much use.

Reckon that it would be something that could make the game more interesting if there were other types of public sessions. The "stealth" session I've talked about a few times. Where there's no indicators, blips, names, alerts or otherwise and players can only find eachother either by communicating with eachother or by randomly bumping into eachother. If that was coupled with an event where players didn't have communication outside of the game or by using the general voice chat, then it would be somewhat useful.

Feels like they put it in just because a phone should be able to call people, not so much because they ever intended people to really use it.

If you always have whole lobby muted like me, it can actually be useful. Trying to team up with someone or get some help real quick from a random.

No. I never knew I could even do that. Just shows how Im still learning new things about GTAO and Ive been playing for almost two years now. I dont talk to randoms unless it was for a reason like doing co-op stuff together

I've had a few calls over the years and made few. Couldn't tell you why though. I think it's a nice detail. Nobody uses it but everyone would be asking "why can't we make calls with our phone" if we weren't able to.

One time I was drunk in a session with a Pizzadude1977. Called him up and asked for a large with extra pepperoni.

Pretty sure he blocked me

At least you didn't ask him for extra sausage!

Imo i love how the messages pop up if we use our phone to message or email players, keeps us in the game instead of having to open up social club to read messages. Calling or texting is useful if you want to speak to one person without bothering the whole lobby. If i wanna contact a player who's not in my session sometimes i email them, seems like barely anyone knows we can even do that. (It's available via the in game web browser at the top of the homepage)

The only time i actually call is when i call my friend on behalf of LJT (it's an inside joke but im sure you get it too) ...or if i'm buzzed sometimes i call a random and read the lyrics of Hotline Bling as Christopher Walken or Bryan Cranston.

They all hang up within seconds :(

I used to call my real life friends during the extremely early days of GTA Online. Now I can hardly use my mic :(

Last gen, yeah. Cool gimmicky feature on PS3 letting you call friends in different lobbies.

Did this not make it onto the PS4 version? I haven't tried it since copying my characters.

Only a handful of times. Just after heists released I called some random cos he kept alerting merryweather in the EMP setup and I felt like winding him up

"If I give you candy will you let me touch you in your special place?"
