Starting from Scratch (could you?)

  1. 1. If a hard reset of all accounts occurred, could you start all over again from scratch?

    • Heck yeah, I just love playing the game, any way it's presented!
      41
    • I suppose I could, but it would be more painful that a root canal.
      30
    • Yes, but not for long. I'd get real tired real quick of the low payouts, long hours, and constant grinding.
      21
    • I don't think I could, or at least not with any kind of enthusiasm.
      53
    • No way, man. Not me. I'd use the game disc as milk coaster!

best thing about ops situation is there would be no hydras for a few weeks

I don't think I could muster the energy to do it all again in this version of the game.

Happy to start from scratch for GTAO2, though (wheneverthat may be).

Yes, I could and probably will have to start over once I'm on current gen. I'm not comfortable enough with giving a friend my PSN account info so that they can do the transfer for me before the deadline arrives.

i'd find 3 players to play heists with and do cmm first of all. that would give me enough money to buy an office with a vehicle warehouse and from there it's the same sht as i currently do.

Sure, why not? Its one of the best games out there and the only one I currently play.

I already started over from scratch before, leveling up and breaking the first million was piss easy(took less than a week), it was a refreshing experience to be honest.

In fact, I got a second character slot free, I might just go ahead and start again.

Also I will take things slow too, do heists only after certain level, only bother with VIP and CEO offices after playing all missions, or I might go crazy and start a motorclub.

But I will miss my cars, thats for sure...

I've thought about buying a second copy of the game just to try this but thought to myself that I'll always be back on my main.

When GTAO first arrived for the PC it was kinda amazing simply because of the interaction with other players at the time was just so much fun. I'd keep playing I guess.

^ I totally agree. I've played a second character on a completely different account so I had no money to share with my main.

Honestly, it's more fun than it has a right to be - even though encountering other players can feel intimidating and unbalanced, the whole game has purpose and objectives when you have nothing. Also avoiding people is kinda exciting in it's own way.

I've said it before, when we have more money and bling than we know what to do with, everything quickly becomes repetitive and stale. Having one PV, just enough cash to buy body armor and ammo for a SMG and holding up stores to scrape together enough for that next vehicle upgrade really changes the dynamic. Makes me feel like a desperate criminal instead of an asshat multimillionaire with no morals.

So... to be more in line with fw3's original scenario, I'd spend a lot of time walking around in passive mode initially (to avoid being fodder for K/D jerkoffs), maybe preying on random AI citizens who stray into alleyways to get some money for a handgun and all the while scouring the streets for a good all-round car like a Stratum or a Stainer - any four-door car with a bit of power and decent off-road handling.

Once i'd stolen a car, I'd leave the city and spend my time holding up stores in remote locations (again to minimise the chance of other player interactio) and scrape cash together to get a small garage or house up in Grapeseed or Paleto, earning a little here and there from illegal work with the ultimate aim to start an MC chapter to get some drug money rolling in.

After that... I don't know. That's when we start to get into the usual GTA trap of "money is no object" scenario. So in answer to the original question, yes. I wouldn't ever want to lose my main character, but there's still scope for this game even if that worst-case scenario happens.

I'm new to next-gen and so I must ask - is it still 2 characters you can have? Don't have a problem starting a new one but I'm certainly not deleting any characters to make that happen.

Heck no !

Or let's say, not in this specific online.

Again, if they would come up with a real GTAO 2, then i do not see why not.

I have intentions on getting the game on PC soon

(not soonish soon becase space in the house is limited)

because of SP mods but since Rockstar are being petulant little children they're even cutting off transfers from PS4/One to PC so the chance of starting over is likely.

• Would you play again?

I've invested 13 days into Online. Made 13mil from tedious grinding. And I've gotten to a point where I'm quickly losing interest as I either need to invest time in other real-life responsibilities or simply have no friends left to play with (I'm very selective). So, No. I wouldn't. But for sake of finishing responding, I will make a hypothetical scenario of me playing after this.

• What would be the first thing you'd do?

Buy a Biker clubhouse and 10-car garage.

• Where would you choose to live?

Sandy Shores. Just as I do now.

• What car would you get first?

Amoured Kuruma, seeing as that is most useful car for mission grinding.

• How would you begin making money?

Contact missions and MC contracts.

• Would you consider buying a Shark Card (or two, three, etc.)?

I'd rather cut off my middle finger and send it to the Houser brothers.

• Once you had enough money, would you spend it to do Heists? MC? CEO?

Heists and CEO, no. Those two are not worth my time and do not make me money like MC does.

• How would it affect your current routine of gameplay?

Not much actually. All I do in Online is mess around and drive around. Only doing a MC mission when I need money, as I usually stay 'GTA poor'.

• What would you do different this time?

• Anything you wouldn't do?

• Anything you wouldn't buy?

These seem like same question to me. Anyway, not buy every gun and only buy the useful ones. Not buy a luxury apt. Not buy a weed business. Not buy so many clothes I never wear. Not spend so much money tuning cars.

• How would you spend your money?

I wouldn't honestly spend much of it after the important purchases above. After seeing what Online offers, most of the content either leads to annoyances such as phone calls and money sinks or in unfulfilling filler content like the abundance of cars that handle mostly the same.

Any out is an out. If the accounts got wiped, I'd call it quits there. I'd say I had a good run, but it's mostly been shooting at jets for the past couple of years.

If I could have all of my shark card money (which is unfortunately more than I wish I spend on them), I could start at Level 0 buy an apartment in Del Perro Heights for 200k, buy the Maze Bank West Office (Gunsafe, Not Particularly Expensive Interior Furnishings, 1 Garage, and maybe the living space if I'm feeling bold, or even do this in Arcadis because I'd have the shark card money and I LOVE Arcadis), a nero custom, a karuma, and a buzzard just with the shark card money, it would total out to be $10,360,000 AT THE MOST, but the price could be lowered by cheaper office modifications. The only reason I'd even get the apartment is to have a heist room, which is currently the only reason I even visit my apartment since the CEO offices have taken off. If shark card money carrys over than I'd have wayyyyyy over this because I have at least bought an $8,000,000 shark card for my yacht and at least one $3,500,000 one for other purposes. Roast me for buying too many shark cards if you please but now looking back it makes me realize how unnecessary a lot of those purchases were especially on dumb pegasus vehicles that I never use. I could still like starting from scratch if it ever happened because I would have the chance to not buy any of the dumb weapons that I wish I never bought such as pretty much every pistol. Pretty much I'd be set if I had to start from scratch but I could still keep my shark card money.

The Chosen Undead

If I found out my account/all accounts were wiped, i'd be angry at first, but it would fade pretty quickly. I've been looking for an excuse to stop playing this game for a while now. I rarely enjoy it anymore, but I keep going for reasons beyond me. Everything that's wrong with it has been slowly amplified more and more since day one. I've certainly got my moneys worth at this point, at least.

Id hate to be a new player nowadays... I feel bad for one of my real life friends when he plays. Barely has time to play.. can't afford anything in game.. Constantly tempted by cash card deals on load screens. I constantly talk him out of wasting money.. Even tho i know he stills buys sh*t.

I wouldn't want to start over in GTA V /O..

But im sure as hell looking forward to starting over in GTA 6/O.

The majority of enjoyment I get out of starting something from scratch comes from the novelty factor. Learning and discovering basically. I would never consider restarting on GTA:O.

I'd probably take it as my exit cue for GTA Online, as would most of the guys I play regularly with.

I'd totally startover with a third character though, but I wouldn't want to lose the option to play my other two when I wanted to.

Would you play again?

Yes, but I can't say for how long. I'm used to joining jobs for fun/because I want to and doing whatever my heart desires regardless of the financial cost. I'd hate to go back to the days where my every decision is based on making/saving money.

What would be the first thing you'd do?

Buy Ammo/Weapons. Safety first.

Where would you choose to live?

Weazel 101, but I'd also save up for Lombank

What car would you get first?

Massacro Race Car

How would you begin making money?

VIP jobs, Criminal Mastermind, Freemode Events

Would you consider buying a Shark Card (or two, three, etc.)?

After reading this thread no. Can't let Rockstar profit of this loss.

Once you had enough money, would you spend it to do Heists? MC? CEO?

No Heists, maybe MC, definitely CEO stuff.

How would it affect your current routine of gameplay?

Too early to tell. I'd spend considerably less and the turnaround wouldn't be as quick. This would slow me down, but I'd probably do the same things I do now.

And in contrast:

What would you do different this time?

Have a female character.

Anything you wouldn't do?

I don't want to do something I'd find boring/lame just because it's profitable. I'd have to enjoy it. This would probably lead to a conflict and I'd hit a crossroads.

Anything you wouldn't buy?

I wouldn't spend so much on Pegasus, Warehouses, different MC businesses. I'd have less cars and properties.

How would you spend your money?

I'd save for the core things like a great appt, a couple great cars, a Buzzard, an office, and then after that spend freely.

Could you do it? Could you start from scratch?

Most likely, but if such a scenario went down and it lead to a mass exodus or the grind simply feels like more of a mountain than a molehill then I might not last long.

I think I'm with you on this, . That's a huge part of the allure of any new game, right? It's even moreso with GTA because of the open exploration aspect.

One of my sons recently watched me play and I said, "I have to get to the lighthouse," and he said, "I think it's way up in the north." I replied, "no, it's over here," as I flew my Buzzard to it.

He laughed and said, "you know you play GTA a lot when you don't even have to look at a map to know where you're going!" I laughed too, but the irony was revealed. I know it too well, now.

I do miss that feeling of discovery. Cheers!

No they wouldn't. People would do what they did before. Grind contact missions, glitch, and grind solo lobbies.

I would be done lol not worth the time since ive literally took my sweet time getting to lv170. For me to get back to where i was would require some tedious grinding which I no longer enjoy that much on GTA.

Maybe if they released an update that varied heavily from anything else they've released then I may reconsider.

I'm one of those who often say "it's so easy to make money so your complaining about prices is stupid" etc, but I often forget that I've been playing GTA O since day one. There wasn't so much stuff to buy and invest, like there is today. Little buy little I've gathered money and experience to get everything I want. New business? I already have the office and other resources to buy warehouses and start new CEO businesses just like that.

But if this were my first day in GTA Online... level 1... I wouldn't know what to do and where to start. And then I realize this game is not really a "GTA O newbie" friendly at all in 2017.

I've enjoyed every single second of this three year journey and I'm kinda proud of myself that I have got all this legitimately. I'm really looking forward for the next GTA O, because I want do this journey from rag to riches again.

But starting in Los Santos from the scratch again? I don't think could (unless my character gets deleted for some reason, then I would)
