Starting from Scratch (could you?)

  1. 1. If a hard reset of all accounts occurred, could you start all over again from scratch?

    • Heck yeah, I just love playing the game, any way it's presented!
      41
    • I suppose I could, but it would be more painful that a root canal.
      30
    • Yes, but not for long. I'd get real tired real quick of the low payouts, long hours, and constant grinding.
      21
    • I don't think I could, or at least not with any kind of enthusiasm.
      53
    • No way, man. Not me. I'd use the game disc as milk coaster!

You being a supporter of this just admit you are supporting 'pay to play' and be done.

Facts are facts my boy.

My point is valid point and perfectly fine calling you out supporting cancerous elements in the gaming industry.

Got something more substantive than telling me to pipe down?

@ buying shark cards to 'get started.'

The more people buy those things, the more the gaming industry will incorporate them as a business models. Gamers who buy them and support this type of thing are the ones destroying the console gaming industry and supporting it's transformation into play to play.

Appalling.

Please don't screw up a good thread with unnecessary stuff like this.

@ buying shark cards to 'get started.'… Appalling.

To be fair, it's just another option. An alternative to traditional grinding. The business model has been changing for years and this is just another adaptation.

It's not that I don't agree with your perspective, I also agree with the perspective of the industry, as well, to a degree.

Mobile games often glean just as much incentive toward microtransactions as Shark Cards, they're just cuter and do it on a smaller scale.

And let's not get into the desktop/internet games, like online gambling sites, and such... a whole thread unto itself. :)

Cackling Jack

Nah. I recently got to rank 300 on my main character and got to rank 130 on my other so nah I don't think I would start again. Too much time and frustration. Wouldn't be worth it.

if something like that happened, it would mark the end of my gtao career til the next gta.

i dont have the heart to start from scratch.

but lets say, i decide to start again, after recreating my guy, i'd buy the 200k apartment at del perro with 500k they gave me, then would go to the sinful forum and glitch/exploit my way to the top!

once i get a healthy bank balance, i'd buy back my maze bank office and 60 car garege, play them heist to unlock the vehicles, buy my hydra and grief til the end of days.

i'd stay away from all businesses, yacht and all pegasus vehicles apart from the hydra and the buzzard.

Me and most of my friends aren't playing V that much anymore. We've mostly gone back to IV which I genuinely feel has more lastability in its game play - much as I enjoyed V's online, it's a relative thing. I genuinely feel heists were the peak of Online and it's been in a bit of decline since then. Maybe I'm alone. Anyone else feel like they're more waiting for the next R* title now rather than anticipating any new DLC that drastically changes things?

Back on topic, if my character did get reset, I don't think it would stop you enjoying the game if I wanted to dip back in. Now you can get weapons like the special carbine and the homing launcher from the get go, so you aren't at a hideous weapons disadvantage you would have been versus higher ranked players when the game first came out. I'd do heists first and get the armoured Kuruma back first as it's simply useful in so many situations - even if they patched it out of Pac Std.

I'd be more p155ed about losing my stats and unlockables like the Elite Challenge T-shirts and tatoos than money to be honest.

Because this scenario affects everyone and not just a few of us, I suppose yes, I could start all over again.

But then you'd start missing your CEO office, car collection, Pegasus vehicles, yacht, MC clubhouse and businesses, and it would hit home really hard and I wouldn't want to continue. That would probably be it for me.

Thanks for posting this thread though, fw3 - it makes you appreciate what you've got.

Hard resetting my character into a broke level 1 won't just make me stop playing GTAO because my 3 years of my hard-earned progress got lost, I would never buy another Rockstar title again.

Hell, if this scenario ever happens, imagine the huge uproar and negativity that'll rain down on Rockstar. Everyone in the community would band up together to protest this, even if they've done nothing but fight with each other on everything.

I've created and levelled three different characters since I first started playing, but I honestly wouldn't be up for doing this anymore. Given the current prices and the amount of time it would take to buy the things I wanted, I just couldn't be arsed to put that much effort into the game again. That would be a sign for me that it's simply time to move on and find something else; though I would likely consider playing very casually with a few friends every now and then if they didn't completely give up the game themselves.

I don't want to steer this into a Sharkcard discussion either, but if this were to happen, it would only fuel my hatred of that system. I'm not knocking those who have bought them or those who would consider buying them, but I've bought this game twice now, and if all of my data were reset and I were given a mere 500K for the trouble, I'd likely tell them (R*) where they could stick that insulting offer. I would never ever even considering buying a Sharkcard if this were to happen--not in a million years--especially since the prices for items would likely remain the same and the fact that the game has started to wear a bit thin at times for those of us who have been playing constantly for three plus years.

Now, if R* gave us all say 5-10M for the trouble; maybe I would be more inclined to start over again on a much smaller scale, but I just haven't the time nor the energy to invest into starting over completely. This would be a horrible disaster on their part; I'd imagine they'd lose many dedicated players unless they decided to change several things (especially the prices) and offer up something more significant to get people started again.

Probably not. I've largely moved on to other games at this point, maybe getting on once a week for a few races and sniping people from the Arcadius building.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA No.

Just like Fallout 4, I find that there is little incentive to start over again. With the lack of having a stable income, alongside the jump in inflation within the past year and a half, it wouldn't be worth it and you'd just burn yourself out.

Good point and worded about 100 times better than myself.

You're right; only 500k for over three years worth of data loss would be a monstrous scam.

The Rockstar support forums would be swamped with Dear Rockstar, go and f*ck yourself emails, followed by a million million likes.

I'd be done. It's getting hard enough to find the motivation to grind away for new stuff I'm sure as hell not gonna grind for stuff I already had. The only way I could be sucked back in is if they released a free map expansion.

I'd probably go on a hiatus for a few days and then start again. To tell the truth, I haven't been playing this game very long. In fact, I only started playing probably a month before I signed up here. I'm not going to be burnt out on this game any time soon and losing both my legit and modded characters wouldn't hurt me enough to completely quit. Sure I'd miss my first character I've ever made and I'd miss my Brickade, Dune, and Ruiner3, but I could easily get over it.

Yeah though, the backlash would be incredible--especially if prices weren't adjusted. As it is, the current prices really only cater to individuals who have been playing for a significant amount of time and/or have the means to grind day in and day out or purchase cash cards. I would imagine that putting everyone back at square one with only 500K would alienate and change the entire community in so many different ways. There is part of me that wonders whether or not most would just "give up" and turn every session into a constant grief fest; I don't imagine that many would be inclined to grind and save for all of the things they once had but that suddenly vanished and were never returned.

I'd still play. I'd take a very minimalistic approach, similar to how I'm currently running my second character. I would not collect vehicles or properties again. One time is enough to collect all those vehicles, already took me 3 years to build up what I have.

The character would buy 1-2 vehicles (not for racing). 1-2 pegasus vehicles. 1 appartment. I'd try to wait for better gun unlocks before I'd start buying weapons but I may pick up a few to get me started. That's pretty much it.

I'd stick to contact missions and other cooperative missions until I had a healthy rank/bank account to get me started. Then I'd slowly branch off and act as sort of a wingman to any randoms kind enough to invite me to their organization and I'd just lend a helping hand as best I could where I could.

Eventually I may purchase a cheap office to be a ceo. I'd probably avoid crates/vehicle wearhouses and just run VIP jobs with anyone who joined my organization. I could just hold onto 1 million but I think I'd rather buy a cheap office possibly on discount so I didn't have to worry about running short on cash.

Then I'd just play as I usally play, running the same jobs as I do now. Only difference is, I wouldn't have a yacht, 70+ vehicles, extra unneeded pegasus vehicles, wearhouses, clubhouse, 5 extra appartments I don't visit etc etc.. I'd only have the minimum, 1-2 cars, 1-2 pegasus vehicles, 1 appartment, and maybe an office. I don't think it would take me long to get these things and it's basically all I use now so not much would change. I would just be short a few toys.

I just like to play.

Not a chance. It seemed like it took a long time even with some of the old money glitches and xp exploits. No way in hell would I start over now, would take freaking forever to get decent apartment, 10 car garage, some decent rides. Noooooooooooope. Hard pass.

I did for a month thanks to a suspension on my main PSN.

I missed having all my money but could definitely do it although I'd become quite a money hoarder. I wouldn't partake in all the PVP like I do now where I barely notice blowing through few hundred grand.

Here's how I spent my money..

1. 2 Car Garage

2. Armoured Kuruma

3. Apartment

4. Buzzard

5. Office

All you need to really start making good ca$h flow

There would be nothing to lose at that point. Might as well just get a mod menu and go on a griefing safari until your account gets banned.

Nope, wouldn't play again.

The dollar value I spent on the game for shark cards and buying the game on 3 different systems over the years exceeds $1,000 AUD

And in an eventuality like that for further R* games I'd never use microtransactions ever again.

Naw. I wouldn't start with a totally zero'd out character. I'm past the days where I intensively put time into GTA:O.

My modded account was money wiped last year and I've got it back up over 100 million with 200+ dupes to sell, but to do all the unlocks and lose all the properties. I'd rather go out and enjoy the fresh air honestly. I could do it, but my time is best spent elsewhere these days.

Plus, the people I played with, they've thinned dramatically. I'm really not motivated to go 'friend' hunting.

Cheers.

What the bolded parts say. As much as I love GTA Online, it's starting to get dry.

I'd focus in getting enough money to buy a Luxury Appartment and then just grind Pacific Standard. If everyone's progress got reseted, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be that hard to find people.

Actually,i'm thinking about getting the game on PS4 as well if it wasn't dipping below 30FPS all the time.

It could be more fun for me to start over.I know what to do so i can make my own goals and play the game to reach them.

It's like playing a good single player game over and over again every couple of years, but online if you know what i mean.I've played games like Dragon Age Origins,Mafia 1,Mass Effect games,Fallout games,M&B games many many times,GTA Online is no different at this point.

Awww - your topics - like like like :)

<snip>

• Would you play again?

Really pissed but yes.

• What would be the first thing you'd do?

Really first thing would be to grab a bike from the streets - a PCJ 600 I think.

• Where would you choose to live?

4 Integrity Way, Apartment 35 where I started my 1st career - right next to Lombank office.

• What car would you get first?

Maybe it sounds weired but it would be a Rhapsody or Blista off the street :)

• How would you begin making money?

Daily Objectivs for sure, Contact Missions, Races and Deathmatches (self hosting and custom/slipstream/catchup off) up to a decent ammount of money and level - later participate in others heists / CEO and MC work (arround lvl40)

• Would you consider buying a Shark Card (or two, three, etc.)?

No.

• Once you had enough money, would you spend it to do Heists? MC? CEO?

I would start heists myself here and there but the first thing will be buying the Lombank office - one small and medium warehouse and La Puerta I/E garage once I can affort that. No MC.

• How would it affect your current routine of gameplay?

Not really that much as I play experienced and fun-orientatd with a slight focus on earning effective money on a side note.

And in contrast:

• What would you do different this time?

Don't buy useless Pegasus vehicles and apartments/garagescars/bikes/clothes/weapons - simple stuff I never or barely use.

• Anything you wouldn't do?

MC stuff on my own - I would participate here and there but never buy/do it my own

• Anything you wouldn't buy?

A bunch of useless weapons/Pegasus vehicles and apartments I only bought to make Heists on Elite.

• How would you spend your money?

Mostly for heavy armor and ammu I guess? Snacks are free in the office :)

But how about you? Could you do it? Could you start from scratch?

Yes? Yes. YES!

:)

tbh - I did that already two times - I'm playing three accounts on PC here. My main issue though would be to lose all that "special stuff" I've collected over the time on my main/oldest char/account.

Games Like gta online you dont start over.

Its impossible to farm money and XP all over again and get everything.

2nd character is the best thing to do in mine opinion.
