There is a reason why we have general system chat on this site.

Ok? Good job doubling down I guess but again, this thread was made in regards to GTAO itself, regardless of if the performance increase applies to GTAV as a whole.

How bad is the game performing on the original PS4? Is this improvement worth getting the Pro over the original? Asking because I'll be getting a PS4 soon enough and I'm not sure if I should sacrifice getting PS+ for a while and spend an additional €50/100 for the Pro. I won't really play any other game on the PS4 and I have no 4K TV's around (and I don't like that ugly slim-based design either) so I'm not sure what to do - on one hand I don't want to spend too much money, on the other I just want the game to be stable/playable.

I just want the game to be stable/playable.

To be honest, asking for it to be like that ... Probably never going to happen regardless of platform.

(I'm kind of p*ssed off right now because I just got a load of errors and sessions splits, to be fair. But I can't imagine any version of the game is going to reverse that).

*with the ps4 pro beta patch

In case u haven't heard there is a beta going on for the new software update on ps4. With this came a option for boost mode which takes the full cape ability of old ps4 games that weren't patched for ps4 pro. Thus giving these games higher frame rates and load times.

I'm in the beta myself and I have to say online is smooth esp in legion sq where frame rate usually dips. As well loading is super quick now. Lobbies are like in and out and I bearly saw little to no blury textures In a full lobby. which is great no more cloud simulator 2017.

Edit seems to be locked to 30fps now unless r* gives a patch for unlocked then this is as good as it gets.

So this is something to look forward to those who own a ps4 pro.

http://m.ign.com/articles/2017/02/03/ps4-pro-boost-mode-will-reportedly-enhance-some-older-games?read

if u care Plus custom back grounds and external hd support is in the update as well.

This is great news!

How are the texture pop-ins and draw distance?

For example, If you are flying a buzzard do you still see trees and foliage appear when flying just north of the city? This mainly happens in first person. I'm very curious to know how 'concrete' the overall map renders on the PS4 Pro. Thanks for the info.

It is plenty stable and playable on a regular Ps4, better if you have great internet. Experiences vary widely though as I'm sure you know.

That being said, I would go for the Pro. Even though you don't have a 4k TV, one day, you might. One day you will want another game to play, and the Pro will give you the best version of that new game. Just my opinion though. Funny my wife and I were just talking about upgrading the TV and to the Pro.

Honestly wild pro if you have a 4K tv ur going to see a difference in resolution esp those with hdr. I'm like you as I don't own a 4K tv nor plan on getting in anytime soon as it seems gimicky.

However when a game does have the pro patch or support you will notice a difference like rise of tomb raider game runs at a steady 60 fps and it's much more better and looks better. When done right as tr gives u options how u want ur quality to be like.

For gta loading seems faster now than on reg ps4. Frame rates used to go low in heavily populated areas like downtown. Now it's like running like your in sandy shores with a full lobby. It's locked to 30 as r* didn't leave it unlocked so until they do so this is at least a improvement.

Less time in clouds depending on ur server or host connection but usually it's quick. As well no lod's or blury buildings most of the time.

My final thought is wait. Reason I bought a pro was for vr as vr preforms better and image quality is better and like you my launch ps4 was dying and I needed a replacement.

Ps4 old menu and ui is a bit slow when opening friends list or store. On pro is it's a tad faster not like its a wow moment. But if you have the cash and want to get it or be future proof for a while then get it but not full price. I wouldn't tell ppl to buy full price for something if they can wait for a price drop.

I just dropped near 2k on a 1070 laptop just for mods. So if u play on pc your not missing much on ps4/Xbox side.

If I purchase a PS4 Pro and set up my PSN from my current PS4 that doesn't count as a transfer in rockstars eyes... does it?

My instinct says no but I want to make sure.

It's stable and playable, random session splits here and there.

And the occasional freeze. Oh God.

You just have to download your GTA data from the PS+ cloud. Your SP is then the same as it was on your other PS4. As for GTAO, it remains the same, it's still a PS4, just with better graphics.

A difference in loading times? By what? 5 seconds?

My old ps4 boots more than 5 seconds faster with a semi sshd anyway.

Sweet. Since I have a 2TB HDD in my PS4, having 10TB of storage in total means no storage worries to store more games for months or even years to come.

Definitely go for the PS4 Pro! The extra features are going to last you well into the future of gaming with the PlayStation brand.

I have been playing on my PS4 for over two years with GTA:O and the quality just isn't there anymore. The frame rate is less than 30 FPS, the texture pop-ins and so fourth. I see the PS4 as the lesser of the two in comparison to the PS4 Pro (technically speaking)

I don't know what else to say. Everyday I think about transferring to PC for these same reasons (stability)

The most PC-like console on the market is the PS4 Pro.

This news in this thread tells me that the Pro is going to be the "definitive" console for enjoying GTA V and all the other games already released.

The Pro will be the better choice in the long run because of its future-proof capabilities. With the Pro you can continue to upgrade your experience with a 4K TV at your own pace and using the immersive PlayStation VR headset (that was designed to take advantage of the PS4 Pros hardware) to play GTA V in Virtual Reality. Yes, you can play any game with the PS VR even it it's not optimized to do so. The PS headset has a 'cinematic mode' that lets you play any game with the PS VR headset. The original PS4 was great when it was new.... as the only option....but that time has passed. I cannot imagine buying a standard PS4 in 2017 because the quality is only going downhill (Especially for GTA:O) The original ps4 is deflating and it's not the best console out there anymore. This is exactly why the Pro exists -to be future-proof and to improve on the experience and foundation that PS4 has brought to the gaming world. The PS4 Pro is the successor!

The additional $50/100 that the Pro costs is worth it in the longterm and in the present. It does not matter if you have a 4K TV because the Pro is always going to outperform the original design.

GREATNESS AWAITS

I'm not even on PS4, not to mention pro. But I can share some thoughts, because I'm on PC and it's pretty solid configuration (i5 6500, 1060, DDR4, M2 SSD). Long story short: p2p is killing this game. You can get solid 60+ fps while in invite only, but not in public. Network lag is much more relevant than your actual hardware in Online. And believe me, I've tried 360, X1 and PC.

PC is better for me because it's easier to play music in background and chat with people over voip while playing on the same headphones and audio output is much better, if you will invest in it.

OP, I don't question your observations, but I can tell you: networking is the main issue for this game. My average load time decrease on my evil M2 drive is under 30sec over HDD. when I'm joining public. Invite is another story, though: rapid fast!

It will be interesting how things will be on the XBOX Scorpio as that apparently is much more of a step up.

Yea invite is super fast. But hey least it stable now and doesn't dip when under heavy fire by a hydra.

Man, spotify is embeded in the ps4 OS these days, it plays beautifully in the background and voice party chat on ps4 can be ridiculously clear. But yes you are right in saying it's the crappy network code that kills the framerate. Since ps4 release theyve removed most of the grass and other extra detail the ps4 version had. It still gets slower with every patch.

It will be interesting how things will be on the XBOX Scorpio as that apparently is much more of a step up.

It's too far away. PS4 pro will be everywhere by then

While Rockstar is too busy throwing SP DLC scraps into Online, Sony is actually improving the game's stability.

What a worthless and stupid comment

the game actually performs great, and you have the example of pc version (Real 4K, ultra setting, 60 fps and higher, etc..) its console manufactures that keep selling players outdated hardware and call it a new console. FFS they are selling a 2.1Ghz overclocked CPU on they're Pro version....

The fact that the game can now runs better without rockstar releasing any patch just confirms that. the software is already there the hardware is not. and if Playstation want to sell the Pro to players, its playstation that got to work on that. the patch is optimizing the console not the game

if your Ps4 broke and you want to keep playing your games then yeah a PRO is the best choice, if you just want to upgrade for the sake of better... everything :p then NO

Inb4 consoles Vs Pc's

...This is exactly why the Pro exists -to be future-proof and to improve on the...

there is no sutch thing as future proof, not on pc and even less on consoles were games are not foward compatible (unless by future you mean the next 2-3 years )

SP may perform flawlessly, but Online's infrastructure is clearly held together by duct tape. Even on decent PCs, stuttering is a common occurrence in large sessions. And it is quite embarrassing that Rockstar still hasn't added official Pro support, when games like Knack already have it. Edited by Deadly Target
