Curious to know how everybody approaches their money in this game. Free and Loose, Frugal, or a Bit of Both?

I'm a Bit of Both personally. I like to have a baseline amount in my account "just in case", and try not to go below it when making purchases.

Staying out of freeroam when having no reserves, use this forum as a lab and test results and its members as lab rats and just enjoy at maximum potential.

Currently i only have 3 mil reserve but i really have nothing i even want that i can have and i am just earning small bits and pieces here and there while spending it in freeroam wars.

But yea, really, if i want it, i just can start doing heists and if any of my current contacts need me for it, they see when i am online so...

edit: I really went on a saving every single dollar back in 2014 2015 when i was between 200 and 600 ranks, but yea, then they removed some fun playlists, heists came,...you know how things go

Post-billionarie days, I've hovered between 8-12 million. Once you have everything, fully modded, etc., the cash piles up (unless you're a FR junkie, then it just fritters away).

I try to buy stuff when it's on sale, but from time to time I will pay full price.

I'm sensible with the money I spend and will do research before buying pretty much anything, but I have no problem with spending my entire bank account on something if I feel like it.

I often see people saying on here that if you're a day one player and aren't filthy rich then you're doing something wrong but I never have huge amounts of spare money because I only grind when there's something I want.

I was really (I mean really) proud of myself when I could keep a reserve of a million in the bank (so my second character could do CEO jobs without having an office). Now that number is 8-10 million and I reckon it's gonna go up with 60 Retro Elegies in the office garages.

Bit of both but at the same time I've never spent much time grinding cash so I would regularly end up broke at times. Now with import/export I actually enjoy going the theft/sell missions so I've found it pretty easy to make a decent amount without a ton of time invested.

Bit of both really. I always have cash in reverse so if a dlc drops I have enough to buy what I want. I am always either making money somehow or spending it in free roam wars.

If there's something I really want and I can buy it with still at least a million or over left, I'll buy it. I'll just grind my way back to 5 million or so or in the case of an update coming near, 10-15mil.

Gives me a reason to actually do the freeroam moneymakers

I have one billionare account which of course, I spend freely on. I also have multiple other accounts with a range of $40mill-$112mill, and a poor account or two. Even though I have a super rich account and multiple other rich accounts, I am always working on one of my other accounts regardless of the fact that I money glitch, and have a billionare account. On my $112mill account right now im doing CEO missions. Went from $97mill-$112 mill over the last week and a half. I'm a billionare and a millionare who grinds like a mofo. I got my billions when I transfered from ps3 to ps4. I transfered all my accounts on day one of ps4 and my one account got 7.7 billion on both ps3 and ps4 before anybody knew about the glitch. I think I'm down to 7.2 or 7.3 bill now so definatly not frugal on that account. But I am very frugal on my $112mill account at the moment.

I'm a bit of both, Before Biker and CEO I/E my income mostly comes from grinding up contact missions. Haven't hosting heist after prison break and rarely join Heist, I only spending my fund with essential equipment for missions.

I'm in between both but leaning towards cautious spending. I'm pretty easy when it comes to buying another vest of armour, ammo and whatnot. But I'm usually planning out vehicle purchases. I'm not poor so I can afford to test some stuff out but that's usually reserved for cheaper vehicles. The more expensive ones go on a list and often I'll wait for a discount. Well I say often but I really mean since I started playing on the PS4. I don't remember there being sales this regularly on the PS3.

I can relate to the account at 112mil as I have around 165mil now. I have pretty much own all of the cars maxed so don't have anything I need any more... Realistically I think that amount of money (around 100mil) will easily see out all new updates of gta 5 until it starts to significantly taper off due to read dead 2.

No "other" poll option ? :/

OT: I don't give a damn about how I spend it because I know I'll make it back one way or another, on a day I'll go all out even if I have to blow 200k in free roam "just" to get rid of a nuisance. But on another I'll try saving up. Like I'm doing right now for the Ruiner 2000. I will limit myself to not buying anything at all in regards to car upgrades or ammo I don't need like explosives.

It can be a long route but money certainly isn't as difficult to come by as it used to be thanks to CEO/VIP, Bikers ect.

When dlc comes out I wait for my friends to buy everything then I can test it for free and see what I'm actually going to use so that I only spent money on items of personal value.

I try not to allow myself to ever drop below $10M. Back before Benny's, Yachts, and the introduction of ridiculously priced cars, I had quite a bit saved. However, one week, I thought: why am I holding onto all of this? Surely, there will never be anything that expensive in the future. So, I ended up buying tons of Pegasus vehicles and the like that I just wanted to try, and between all of that, my custom paint addiction, newer content, etc, I found myself just barely floating above the poverty line right around the time 'Cunning Stunts' were released. Then I stumbled onto an 'opportunity', but continued to spend more carefully and now I have just enough in reserve in case there are things I really need want.

So, I continue to watch my money rather closely, but I'll splurge when it comes to certain vehicles and of course, custom paint schemes. I also mostly play jobs when I'm online and avoid public free roam battles--I may not be a "rich" player, but I won't buy shark cards and I prefer to do things that I enjoy as opposed to "grinding" my online life away. I do take advantage of double money jobs and promotions; many of them can often be quite fun--especially with like-minded friends, and I don't like to put myself in a position where I'm just grinding things that I don't enjoy and where I am not having any fun at all.

I never let myself get below $40 million.

Majority of my money is blown away by blowing up cars and starting/financing wars. But if I ever dip below $40 mill, it's back to grinding.

Retro Flutter

bit of both...had $5.6 million a few days ago, bought an office, warehouses and now I have $2.5mill...debating on buying another car or upgrading to have a garage in my Office....so i I can buy even more cars since my other 6 garages are full.

I just try to stay above $1 million for VIP stuff, but since I"m a CEO now, I don't really see the need of that...but I like having some walking around cash...ie. $1.5million at least.

I mean, I'll make money back, eventually...not like I"m never gonna be rich again....not concerned about making it back though...just nice to have as an extra bit of income for CEO stuff.

I guess I kinda splurged last few days...but considering I still have a couple million, I'd say I was relatively conservative.

As stupid as it may sound, I don't like going below 10mil. But my real cap is 7mil. I never ever want to go below 7mil

I was initially "free and loose", I remember most of the time I was broke to the point sometimes even had trouble buying new clothes. Then I did Mastermind challenge, my only big expense was the yacht and after that began imposing some limits to myself - not only I couldn't go bellow 1 mil due to back then it was a requirement for being CEO as you surely remember, but even went further to try never to be bellow 2 mil (the extra million was intended for "emergency" situations, say for example limited time items or huge sales). I'd make sure to gain back any spent money, and this way not only I wouldn't loose money, but I even had my bank account always slowly growing yet continuing to buy new vehicles and such.

However, about since the release of the new CEO activities I began not playing as often (in fact, the right term would be rarely playing, both due to college work and to spend more time playing other games. When I got more active again there was a lot more stuff to buy, and I didn't made the smartest purchases (got cars I quickly got rid of, invested on an MC clubhouse and business I only made two delivers and ofc never paid off) yet I wasn't making money back.

So, long story short, I got into a vicious cycle of not wanting to sit down the whole time grinding as I find more fun to hang out with friends and PvP, yet always try to buy new stuff and end up almost broke every time, because my income quicly gets spent on some item I was already interested on for some time.

Used to spend it as fast as it came. Then started a buffer and have been increasing it little by little. Started at around not wanting to drop below 5 mil. Then 8. Now it is up to 10 and soon to be 12+ with the next week or so of these double adv modes. I'm hoping to eventually reach a nice 25 mil buffer. I don't think I can ever go back to being cash poor now.

I do have a long list of things I want to buy and feed that every so often, or my buffer would easily grow faster.

I almost never buy stuff that's not on sale. And sometimes not even then, because then I think "there's probably gonna be a better offer if I wait a couple of months".

I don't - I've got some people who help me, by making sure I don't spend money on things I don't really want.

They're called Rockstar Games. :p

Always amazes me that people have been struggling to pay for stuff, or running out of garage space, because they want to buy EVERYTHING from every update - meanwhile, something like Bikers comes out, and my reaction is just 'oh well, better luck next update...' :bored: Import/Export is one of the biggest, most expensive updates ever added to GTAO, and what have I got to show for it? One car, that cost me maybe $1 million. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The upswing of this is that I can hover around $4-5 million, lose $1 million every ...6 months on a single car, mess around doing things for fun, even though they don't earn much money at all, and still make back that million in time for the next update that actually interests me.

I have often gone between bouts of extreme frugality to wild profligate spending. These days the frugality tends to win out. Easy to become a beggar quickly.

I'm currently grinding to get all the special vehicles in my Import/export garage. My setup is simple. I just e arn the money for that car and two million extra....

So currently I'm grinding for the rampbuggy and account is at 30million.. Another million to go and I pull the plug, that lets me drop down to 28 million again... Then I earn again till I get to 33 million and I'll buy that zombie-van or the ramp-truck. I'll drop to 30 million... then earning again to 35 million,...

The Import/export income is pretty nice and constant. Coupled with a coke facility I keep supplied (and some weight on my keyboard to keep character walking/idling, while I do other real life things) I make roughly 700K a day with minimal effort and some fun, in my solo public sessions... I used to do crate collects, but that got as boring as it gets and after 50 million earned that way, I just can't stomach doing those again.

I feel the DLC-cost are constantly rising (although perhaps dlc will come to an end this year), so I'm building in a lil extra cash for just that, although I don'nt buy everything all at once (as can be seen above).. I just set ingame (earning) goals and buy when I've met my goals...
