What does it take to be a top GTA Online player?

A helmet, a Marksman rifle, a rocket launcher, a pistol for quick suicide, and a very edgy-looking character with white hair and tribal face-paint.

Bonus if you're shirtless, heavily-tattooed, and have 2-3 friends in your organization who look exactly like you do.

These two plus CEO Bullshark and knowing how to fly and take out jets with either a jet yourself or RPG.

You'll literally be unkillable lol

I think doing the CMM is a pretty good measure if a player is good or not.

I think I could do it, but I'm not bothered to, too much work, too easy to fail and my connection is unreliable.

For me a top player is simply someone who is more than decent in almost every aspect of the game or dominates in at least a few areas. Just owning one part of the game, doesn't make you a top player imo.

I still have to find a person who can win a single game against me in tennis, that doesn't make me a top player.

I think a top player or elite player would be that one who can make the most money minimising the risks with other players around and have a great knowledge of the terrain, activity and his limitations...

As far as i'm concerned a 'top' player plays the game for fun and gives no f*cks about how "gud" they are.

Most of the posts in this topic are about freemode, which is about 5 % of this game.

I consider myself with all the awards and rewards with two characters somewhat an all-rounder. I also have all the weapon tints on my male character. But I still know 3 - 5 players who are better than me.

Millions of dollars worth of Shark Cards, apparently.

But seriously, come on, stop it with the over inflation of the prices, R*. Oh. I forgot...

Um, I'd say hard work and dedication to the game. Not really, just troll your way to the top and treat the open world as your own personal playground. Just not the way it was intended though.

Nobody mentions tennis. A true champion is a champ at tennis.

Assuming you're talking about freeroam;

Sitting in a jet 24/7, toggling passive, blowing everything up you see, if you don't have access to a jet for whatever reason equip your outfit that's only a floating head with a bulletproofed helmet on it and sidestep in first person with the marksman rifle while hopped up on BST. Basically pull as much bullsh*t tactics as you can, even if it means killing yourself so you don't let somebody else get the chance to kill you first.

This is the pinnacle of GTAO TRYHARD gameplay apparently.Even with all that Carcercitymadman still kicks there asses

i fixed your post.

All jokes aside, enough been made troughout this thread already. I think you are a top player if you can use your head and think before approaching a situation/task. Be it PvE, PvP or whatever.

I think you have become a top player when you have accomplished everything you want to accomplish, and so start to patiently and selflessly help newer players do tasks and missions, improving their gameplay and helping them to earn money.

Haha, didn't even see that post from Mach1bud before.

Can't even begin to imagine how many matches you actually had to play for that.

I'm at 10-0 and had to play like 50 matches for that.

-LN- already challenged me for a match. If you are on PS4 and down for it too, we may be able to determine who's the GTAO GOAT;)

Excel at every game mode, that goes from being a dick that kills everything that moves on freemode, to a top tier darts player.

In short, be the best in everything the game offers.

Depends what your definition of "Top" is.

What sort of parameters do you value when you estimate someone to the absolute best?

Personally I constantly strive for improvement to be the best that I could be at what I do, that doesn't necessarily mean I am those things, but I do certainly try to go out of my way to learn as much as remotely possible through experience and education. It's mostly out of a need to overcompensate that is innate to me as a person, but I have a slight suspicion I'm not the only one that is like this.

In the end, it doesn't even matter what matters is your own values and goals that you deem worthy of doing, and how you measure yourself up to others that determine what "top" is.

Only cowards smash in tennis, btw.

Hell yeah. Would love to play a gangsta like that.

On a side note:

Did R* change it at some point that you get a win when someone bails? I see slimsy having more total wins than sets won and I never got a win when someone quit.

There is no point in being the best? I mean it depends on what you would define in being the best in GTA. Its subjective. Gta isnt about being the best but only what you define the game to be to you not by the standards which there are no standards in GTA. Just achievements and stuff to buy.

I think it just depends on what your definition of a "top player" is.

I battle in freeroam the majority of the time, so when I think "top player" I imagine a freeroam warrior. The players that I'm impressed with are the people that can fight a multitude of different ways. Players that know the terrain and are aware if their surroundings.

The best player I've ever come across is luckily in my crew. I'm very proficient at battling in GTA and this guy makes me look like a level 1 fresh off the plane to Los Santos! I rarely have come across people better than myself. This guy is also one of the best jet pilots in the game too.

I also have another guy in my crew that is the best all around player I've met. He is great at literally everything. Racing, Parachuting, Golf, Missions, Heists, flying and fighting.

I play with people are ace drivers but can't fly a heli or plane. Players who can't shoot but can fly amazing.

I am above average in almost all categories, a good shooter, driver and an ace in the air.

But I would never consider myself a top GTA player because in reality I have never seen one single player who excels in all areas. GTA is like FPS or rpg teams. Each crew will have players with strong areas and weak areas.

One of my team mates in an ace in a car and a good shooter but watching him fly a helicopters is hilarious, his method of landing is crashing and running away from the buring wreckage before it explodes.

There is no such thing as a top level GTA player. Just players ace in certain areas.
