"...You bring your bathing suit, I'll bring my guitar and some wine."

Actually, it was more like "Bring your bitch ass down to the beach, you pussy-assed motherf*cker! We can fight it out like men!!". And it wasn't some thoughtful, romantic paramour asking that my character accompany him on a date, It was an e-thug member of one of those supa tryhard gangsta killa crews cordially inviting me to join him at the beach so he could recoup his kills and mend his wounded pride. We had been at war at a random spot in the city near the tattoo shop by the theater where the tank spawns. He literally got in a car, drove to the beach, and called me a pussy for not coming down the beach. After half an hour of this, I had enough, caved and met him in his special place. *snickers*

This brings me to the point of this thread: What's the deal with tryhards (who believe themselves to be "purists") wanting to take every fight to the beach? These people think that eschewing 99.5% of the game map for that tiny pocket of sand and spawn traps is where the elite play. I don't spend much time on the beach because I'm not the best sniper, and, honestly, I hate the fact that combat in GTA usually boils down to facing each other on a [relatively] flat surface and jiggling our high-caliber dicks back and forth at each other until someone happens to land enough shots. I can kinda see the skill involved, but if you have to enforce special rules to ensure that you get kills, how good are you really? IMHO, having a faceoff on the flattest, most wide open place in the entire game (where these guys cry foul if you use anything other than sniper and/or assault rifles) is... Boring. Limiting. Basic. Are we pistols at dawn? Is this the Revolutionary War? Why not trade in GTA for Sniper Elite?

I cut my PvP teeth in GTA, and I learned to fight anywhere at any time, because that's where and when assholes will have a go at you. And, generally speaking, the map is great for it. Buildings, hills, trees, levels, elevation changes, alleyways, etc., combined with a myriad of weapons make way for a plethora of tactics to learn and utilize. What's more, the enemy can come from any direction/area using any method of attack, so you have to switch tactics depending on your opponents ever-changing position/arsenal. One could argue that I prefer the city to the beach because I'm better there, and there may be some truth to that. But I'd rather be efficient on 99% of the map than on a small rectangle of sand and shallow water overlooking the ocean. I mean, if a fight just happens to break out on the beach, then fine. Adapt or die. But when you're stomping someone's ass in anywhere else on the map and they insist that you cease, desist and follow them to the beach, it just seems... pussy. It's like, "I'll beat you if you play by my special rules."

So, my question is this: Which is a truer test of skill? A showdown at the beach where you're limited to one location, where only a handful of weapons are actually effective, requiring substantial skill in said weapons? Or an ad hoc battle that takes place wherever you happen to be at the time, using the immediate environment and any and all weapons you have on hand in the moment?

To me, the beach is less tactical but that's because I snipe. You kill, reload and wait for them to respawn. You essentially get the upper hand when you're good at sniping. In cities per say, you have no idea where they're going to spawn, and have to change your tactic based on their respawn.

But I digress. I love the heavy sniper and will die by it until GTA Online ends. The marksman rifle is the worst enemy as users tend to "shake their high caliber dicks" at me. Also, I hate first person.

Not sure what you're asking, but wanted to throw in my two cents.

PvP fights in the beach? Never had that.

Sounds counter productive for me, you want to PvP in a place you can get in cover and use proper tactics...

Eh, I think the real way of settling a dispute is through a duel. Face opposite directions, take ten steps forward, and turn around and fire your best shot with a Marksman Pistol or Heavy Revolver. Of course, within the GTA world, you would have more than a few people fire an RPG after taking only three steps at best or just turn around and stab you in the back with a switchblade. Though, I still love the concept and history of a proper duel. :)

I often feel as though I'm not playing the same game as many of you; perhaps it is related to me avoiding public servers, but I can't say that I've ever had anyone challenge me to anything on the beach aside from an Impromptu Bifta or Surfer race.

Either way, I think I would vote for the option pertaining to anywhere and within any environment. I don't have any interest in dodging sniper or Marksman rifle bullets on the beach; that seems extremely limited and eh, quite boring and completely one dimensional. Then again, I also don't think we should have our entire arsenal of weapons and ammo available at every given moment, so I'll just stick to forced+pickups deathmatches.

Though I voted for 'The rest of the map', they are both tests of skill. The beach is just a test of skill in a very small portion of the game, whereas battling it out anywhere is a test of skill in a much larger part of the game.

Running a marathon is just as much a test of skill as doing a Triathlon.

Pvp fight at the beach you say?!Hold on let me go passive and spawn my rhino tank, take off passive and commence ass kicking express train into high gear. Lol its a cheap dirty tactic but hell it works every time.

Anywhere else On the map i just melt people with my minigun if they want to try starting a fight with me.

No Use For A Name

If you get into a scuffle on the beach, I'm sniping your ass from the roof of Lombank

People fight at the beach because it is open and makes it easy for Marksman snipers to kill one another, I personally despise them because it's just a sniper/rocket orgy of facepainted morons in military gear.

On the other hand, a fight in other urban settings actually makes you think about what your next move should be and how to ambush the guy, that's if the other guy doesn't start spamming explosives as well.

The beach is lame for fights in my eyes. Nothing but sniping. Perhaps it could be attributed to my love/hate relationship with sniping. Or maybe the fact that I like a battle that keeps me on my toes, or tactics that are creative. I've been in my fair share of wars with the marksmen strafing suicide drama queens. Hell that could be it even. Maybe its the fact that I tend to attract these tryhards that commit suicide to protect their precious k/d. I got into a 4v4 battle a week ago with these guys that had a killer strategy/ Battle happened in the hills by Popov's mansion right after a car export. @ of them with assault rifles who would fire wear down shots and then pop off to the side so the guy behind them (with a minigun) could finish us off if needed. If that wasnt enough, they had a sniper too. It was clever strategy and truly impressed me.

Ppl who say that mess are the type of lames who will say "hey lets fight but no kicking or wrestling only punching". lol Wtf? Real men fight anywhere anytime no holds barred. IMO the real p*ssy is one who has to snipe or resort to RPGs or worse a tank or jet when getting owned. :/

Tbh, the elite play rng tdm. The rest of the elite backwards strafe and win dogfights with stalls.

The true elite are the ones who have fun everytime they play and other players seek them out every time they log on.

As the late great Lemmy sang.

Its all about the game and how you play it.. All about control and if you can take it.

Playing things 'their way' gives them control. Unless you're a better sniper. Not that sniping matters much in gta..

It's more of a test of skill in the city in my opinion. You have to adapt to surroundings and traffic, etc.

As for the beach. I just watch them from my yacht, Divinity :)

Heavy pistol only deathmatches are the truest test of skill.

No guns. No melee weapons. No fists. Faggio only. Final Destination.

Ahh yes... You're not the first to spot an Alpha Troll but good find nevertheless! You're a brave man for following the scent all the way to its natural habitat and I hope you got to watch it's wonderful mating call, it's very similar to the ritual performed by the Lophorina superba bird...

You said it - spawn trap. You're not close to vehicles, cover, or anything that will help you. They want to get the drop on you so they can just spawn kill you repeatedly.

i had this type of people challenge me to a beach battle, they are not fun at all given the fact that most of the time he who kills first, already won the battle and now its just wait for respawn and snipe again.

i have done them and got zero satisfaction out of spawnkilling some dude til he ghosted me.

in my book, the best ground battles are within the city!

The beach is basically a spawn trap when your having a sniping war with whoever. Thats why people like it so much. I had most free roam wars there. If you know what your doing you can turn the tables on them pretty quickly. As for the rest of the map, I like fighting anywhere to be honest. Makes th situation difficult but overall I get a lot more buzz out of it.

Generally by the time I receive that a-typical, "Meet me at said location" message I am already up on kills slapping back some green tea in my office. If I can be bothered to respond it will more than likely be very sarcastic and followed by an abrupt blocking because those types loathe being ignored after being smacked around a bit.

The entire map is set up for combat if you have the gonads for it, just last night I was shot out of my chopper while innocently trying to make it to my Yacht in Paleto and had to wipe some supers CEO's on the mountains. If you can get multiple kills on a group of four people while struggling not to tumble to your death I'd wager that makes you an efficient fighter.

Let the beach boys play in the sand and keep getting rashes, I'll kill you wherever I feel like killing you...
