Why are Rockstar even doing this? I think it's bad enough that I can't move over to PS4 after moving to Xbox One.

 

Also daft question: I've transferred my Xbox 360 progression over to my Xbox One. Can I transfer my Xbox One progression over to PC, and if so can I only do it before March 6th?

You couldn't even come up with a good reason why transferring accounts from PS4/Xbone, two current-gen platforms which are much more secure than old gen and PC, should also have their transfer to PC removed permanently. Hell, PC is a much more volatile ground than old gen, all this retarded decision will do is ruin GTA V sales because some people no longer want to buy PC copies since they can no longer transfer their characters. Besides, your example is that of a 20 year old operating system that got dropped support because it's outdated, our current topic is the removal of character transfer from modern consoles with proper anti-hack security to PC with weak anti-hack security.

 

If you want to debate with someone, try to think of something original and worthwhile instead of copy-pasting catchphrases and thinking you're hot sh*t. I know that you fanboys will try to defend Rockstar's every rubbish decision anyway, even if they piss on your plate.

Yeah I don't understand that. From old gen to new gen, they said at the beginning it wasn't going to last forever. I expected a year at best, but its been two years I believe?

 

They had said this in 2014:

 

Limitations on Transfer:

• Transferring previous GTA Online data is a special feature of GTAV that may not be available to all users or at all times, and may, upon 30 days notice be terminated, modified, or offered under different terms.
• Transfers may only be made between accounts owned by the same player and transfers may be rejected, modified, or reversed if the player or transfer violates the transfer requirements, Terms of Service (rockstargames.com/legal) or End User License Agreemen

So they have given longer than their 30 days notice at least.

You're right, I should have went with a more trendy, politically based comparison that has absolutely no place in a thread discussing a video game nor did it actually serve as a proper analogy. But I suppose those poor souls could buy a newer, more secure passport with updated fonts, more pages, and unique features only possible from such a passport. If it was about modded accounts they would have done something a long time ago. Imagine all the lost Shark card sales! They probably don't think modding is big enough to spend the effort to do anything about it.

 

They are simply doing this to

 

1. lessen support for old systems once again and save some money and

2. get people new and old to buy the game on new systems. Some of them will buy shark cards, some of them will just make Online more populated and keep more people playing, and R* will make some money.

 

Hopefully they will eventually make it so consoles and/or PC can play on the same servers.

"If you have not yet brought your characters and progression over from PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 to PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC, time is running out as this will no longer be possible as of March 6th, 2017."

 

There is nothing being said about transfer from current gen to PC, so why do people expect it being shut down? A CG customer who buys the PC version is a good customer. No reason to shut this down.

It's a bit sad they gave a 30 days notice and reenabled the transfer with no issues again. Unless they wipe all modded accounts later in March, that would be nice.

 

I guess R* Fag was right, before the arrival of RDR2 they don't want to give the impression of having a game full with cheaters. Could have thought about this 3 years ago tbh.

This clearly says you cant transfer from ANYTHING to ANYWHERE. Not just last gen transfers are being shut down.

Meh, they talked about the transfers not being permanent since 2014, and they gave us a 30 days warning beforehand so those who are interested in the transfer can stil do it, so I'm not bitching about it.

 

For me, it just seems like a feature they want to get rid off, maybe it takes a heavy toll on their servers, maybe they want to cut down on expenses of their software that checks into players profiles, maybe they want to cut support on last gen altogether and let it be a no-mans land like IV multiplayer is, probably because its not profitable for them, yadda yadda yadda, you get where I'm going with this: They want to get rid off the feature.

 

To close this: If you're a legit player with an legit, non-modded account on last gen who wants to upgrade, but cannot because you're short on money, there are people here who are willing to help with that by making the transfer for you, so once you've got a current gen console or PC of your own, your character will be waiting for you.

100% this. They could have cut off transfers December 31st 2020 and the internet would still rage.

It's a smart move, and to be honest I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.

 

The personnel and resources used to prevent modded accounts from transferring is a never-ending battle as it seems like these players create multiple accounts.

 

When one gets reported and banned the modder just uses another modded account. By Rockstar removing the ability to transfer they can prevent modders from this constant flow of modded accounts being transfered.

 

Eventually, there will be few to no modded accounts for the ability to replenish them will have been removed. And the ones that exist now will slowly be removed from a combination of their anti-cheat software and player's reports.

 

At least for consoles, PC is a lost cause.
