On June 18, BARB filed its latest regulatory tax statement here.

On page 9 it lists the investment firms that bought into its fundraising round.

Maybe looking into some of those firms a little, and the kind of things they are interested in, might help reveal a little useful information...

This patent has nothing to do with the game. Please read this to get a better understanding.

What? They are working quietly on the game without hyping people or marketing the game. Once they have it done they will start showing what they have, not before

John Linden is the CEO of Mythical Games, and their big thing is blockchain integration, specifically in things like in-game marketplaces. Their current game project is Blankos Block Party (a party game/creative sandbox thing, similar to something like Roblox), which seems to exist as much as a proof-of-concept for their blockchain-based systems as anything. So I'm guessing that them using an Everywhere tour bus might be because BaRB are toying with the idea of using that kind of system for, say, players selling their own user-generated assets to other players (which is putting me even more in mind of things like All Points Bulletin and Second Life).

...you know those moments in sitcoms and cartoons where a kid says something like "Dad, I'm off to go and play Russian roulette with Timmy!", and the dad clearly isn't paying attention, and just nods while reading the newspaper, with a "you kids have fun, now!" - and then a minute later does a double take, like "wait - RUSSIAN ROULETTE!?!?"?

Right, now swap out that sitcom dad with me, and "Russian roulette" with "blockchain integration" - as in, I just kind of hand-waved it at the time, but looking back on it now, it's all coming across as "...wait, this all sounds like - oh, no...". Because after all the recent gold rush stuff going on with (motherf***ing) NFTs, I've suddenly got this sinking feeling that this is where all the stuff with Mythical, and 'being able to buy stuff outside of the game through in-game means' is going. :turn: Oh, and things like the zero-self-awareness obsession with the whole "metaverse" stuff that Facebook are going all-in on right now (sure seems like a whole bunch of people managed to completely miss the point of the "metaverse" in Snow Crash, huh?) - put all that together, and I'm getting a rather depressing picture of a Playstation Home-style social-ish hub thing, but where you can go play some arcade modes from said hub, and where the real purpose is to sell you limited-edition trinkets (skins and what-have-you) for real money, using NFTs as a way to make those things truly limited-edition (even though you don't need to use blockchain systems to achieve that!), because gotta get those folks susceptible to FOMO to buy tat they don't need, right? :p

And there'll be some means of selling said NFT-based trinkets to other players, and in theory, cashing out when you hit a certain threshold - with BaRB taking a cut of every sale. So basically, similar to something like Entropia or Roblox, but built on NFTs/crypto. Maybe I'm totally off-base about all this, but if that's indeed what Everywhere ends up being, then ...ugh, I'd just like an interesting new game to play instead, thanks. :/

I get that the NDAs for the dev team are ironclad and all-encompassing, but still, it'd be good to know something about what this is supposed to be. And that's just general 'is this going to be a game that interest me or not?' stuff, aside from my lingering concern that Benzies and BaRB might have decided to jump on either/both of the NFT or "mEtAvErSe!" bandwagons...

I remember that early 2017 interview, where Benzies cited Metal Gear Solid V as something that had resonated with him in terms of detail and the like - and I'd like to think that this is to Benzies' work on GTA what Death Stranding was to MGS: not a straight-up off-brand sequel, but nevertheless clearly continuing on a similar trajectory in terms of the mechanics and ideas being explored. But that's still what I'd like it to be, and there's no knowing whether or not it'll be anything like that.

Former Rockstar North head Leslie Benzies, founded a studio that goes by the name of Build A Rocket Boy. Said studio's debut project is a game called Everywhere, and, by all accounts and purposes, Everywhere will be a real life Oasis from Ready Player One, except well, that it's digital.

What Is Everywhere?

Now you have the why, but you have no clue what Everywhere actually is. Well, let's first quote Benzies himself:

“Everywhere has a lot of traditional game mechanics but we’re going for something more that draws inspiration from, well, everywhere. Players are getting smarter and require more from their games, and we want players to have the real freedom to live in our worlds in the ways they want to. We’re aiming to offer a huge variety of game modes and styles that not only tell our stories but also enable players to live in the identities and adventures they most want to explore.”

Aside from that, we know that Everywhere will feature an open-world, multiple narratives and seamless multiplayer, meaning you're always connected to a general hub. Think 'metaverse' and the aforementioned Ready Player One, and you get the idea. Lastly, the game's name itself is also one of the bigger hints as to what the game is aspiring to be.

Leslie Benzies, the former head of Rockstar North, founded a studio called Build A Rocket Boy. The debut project of this new studio is a game called Everywhere , and the concept behind seems to be a version of the Oasis from Ready Player One.

What is Everywhere?

Now that you know why, it's time to see what Everywhere is. The best way to explain it is by quoting Benzies:

“Everywhere has a lot of traditional video game mechanics, but we're looking for something to take inspiration from, well, everything. Gamers are getting smarter and demanding more from their games, and we want players to have true freedom to experience our worlds the way they want. We are aiming to offer a variety of game modes and styles not only to tell our stories, but also to allow players to live in their identities the adventures they want to explore. "

On top of that, we know that Everywhere will feature an open world, multiple narratives, and will be multiplayer , which means you'll always be connected to a general hub. Imagine the "metaverse" of Ready Player One, and you will understand what it is all about . Lately, the name of the game is also a clue of what the project aspires to be.
