Why haven't we gone back to Vice City?

Am I the only one wondering why we haven't really gone back to Vice city? In my opinion gta 3 definitely put the series on the map, but Vice City solidified the series as an essential game. Weve been in Liberty City twice now, and San Andreas twice now...Where's the love for Vice City? With everything I've seen go into gta 5, I can't help but imagine how amazing going back to or expanding vice city would be. I've also been curious to see another period piece (vice city/San Andreas). I dunno, I kinda think it'll actually happen, but wither way, I say it NEEDS to happen. And I'm talking about a full game again, not a little spinoff. What are your thoughts?

Umm, Vice City has been in three games, GTA 1, GTA Vice City and GTA Vice City Stories, which means it's appeared as many times as San Andreas, Liberty City is just the dominating city.

Well, you put a Gta I in that enumeration, and looking at the cold numbers seems as if the city has been overused, however personally I don't think this is the case, that is the point goes not so much about how many times we have been there, but to bringing that city back to today's graphics imo.

I understand that it's been around, but I don't think it's been fully realized. You're more than welcome to criticize I guess, I'm just saying that it could be absolutely amazing now and I want to see that.

With todays graphics ViceCity would be amazing, you would get a real feel of Miami and the everglades. For me personally just a reworking of the game in HD would be enough, i love the game, dont get me wrong i love all gta's but ViceCity just has something and always will.

They should definately do a Vice City remastered, if its not a GTA 6/7/8/x title. It's my favourite GTA and Second favourite after NFS Underground 2.

I actually would've prefered if Vice City was the location in GTA V. Unless R* plan on bringing it back, but much more expansive like with the Everglades and cities like Orlando and Tampa to represent south/central Florida.

I need to agree with this in fairness.

 

However we've not trully visited SA in HD yet, only 1/3 of it actually. So from that conclusion we've only revisited 40% of the RW maps. Potentially another 3 games to go before we complete the entire set.

When I played GTA IV, I didn't even remotely think that R* remastered/revisited/reused/re-whatever GTA III. When I played GTA IV, I felt a completely brand new and fresh experience that is unique from GTA III. So much of the city is different that there are few comparisons. The name of the city is just that, a name. I expect the same if the "Vice City" name is used again. R* only started replicating a lot of real life landmarks with GTA: San Andreas so there are a lot of similarities between that game and GTA V.

This is a good point I guess. I've just always associated Vice City with the 80's, the soundtrack never helped, it wasn't exactly a 'timeless' environment so teleporting that setup outwith that decade just seems to peculiar. But I guess if you retract the glitz and neon's it wouldn't be long until it could be either 50's or indeed 00's very quickly!

I'd love to return to VC but with a bigger map, like SA's UHD quality..but im sure they wont bring Tommy back cuz he's 65 by now..so idk who they'll put instead of him. idk if ready to see VC w/o Tommy. however would love to see GTA 6 with new VC but idk what theyre preparing for us. and if it be for pc or just mobile..

Tommy wouldn't need to be that age, plus at the end of the day it's sort of a parallel universe between RW and RAGE. So chancer are only Easter Egg's to Tommy would be there at best, has any characters fully crossed over other than Love Fist? I actually can't think off the top of my head personally.

This, this and once again THIS. I don't want yet another cheesy Vice City in the 80's with the same characters. That ain't gonna happen. My best bet would be a modern VC in 2017 (most likely later). Even if, I was always curious how would Vice City from the 3D Universe look like in 2001, by the time GTA3's events unfold. I'd really enjoy that climate more tbh.

In fairness, this is a good point to touch on. I think all the other GTA's have been pretty timeless really, VC was the only one which was quite obvious what decade it belonged in. Removing that element would, to some extent, change the mood of the game. But I can see where you're coming from, a more modernised VC would also be really interesting!

There might be a couple more vinewood stars, idk. It feels like Vice City gets ignored, but it probably has more to do with it being my favorite and wanting more. At the very least I thought we would have a blue Hawaiian shirt we could buy or win. R* seems pretty adamant leaving the past in the past. I personally want to see Vice City reimagined but again in the 80's, maybe a little more serious, a little darker...maybe i just need to go watch scarface. Oh, isnt Jack Howitzer a crossover character?

Because they are keeping the best for last, bro. Rockstar are planning the return to Vice City when they are ready with the best engine and various other aspects that need to be considered from storyline to crime activities, so that everyone can experience the best Vice City game.

Currently, they are testing the waters first with GTA IV, V, etc to try many things in both SP and Online before they release the final version of the best HD game with Vice City. Consider the game to be in its Beta stages for now. It'll take some time, but they'll return to Vice city.

Consider the game to be in its Beta stages for now. It'll take some time, but they'll return to Vice city.

Considering the fanbase that Rockstar have built with IV and especially V/Online, it's not unlikely to suppose that they're done with the retro approach.

I'd love to see a return to '80s GTA (or alternatively a '70s era game), but I don't see how that would appeal to the shark card, pink AK and armoured Kuruma crowd.

For some reason I always thought that Vice was the Housers' and Benz's favourite GTA setting and that's why GTA V was set in San Andreas so that they can "save the best for last" as Osho wrote.

 

I don't know if they're looking at the HD GTAs as another trilogy, but closing this "saga" with a contemporary Vice City based story would be just perfect.

Everyone's gonna disagree with me, but I want ALL of the 3D Universe games including VC to be remastered with today's graphics. Add cut content back in, put in more things to do (that actually tie in to the story and aren't random).

 

It could be great if done properly. I want it still feel like those old games but they were made just yesterday.

No of course not.

 

Practically everyone on here, (well nearly everyone) wanted to see a return to Vice City before we knew where V would be set. I'm very confident this time any brand new GTA title (not expansion or DLC) will be set in Vice City.
