Do you think the A.I is designed to go against you?

Recommended Posts

Mirror Park Resident

I think they're in "panic mode" ... like when there is shootings everywhere...

Except that this "panic mode" applies to cars/vehicles spawning all around you even if you're not in range of said shootings (by enemy AIs).

As long as there is those enemy AIs on the map, civilian AIs will be chaotic.

But I'm not sure they target you specifically, if it's something intended by Rockstar to f*ck you up (wouldn't surprise me), or if this is just messed up instead of waving away from you they wave into/in front of you...

Maybe.

Yeah, but how convenient that the civilian AIs screw you 98% of the time, instead of the enemy AIs.

They can panic and change lanes to ram the enemies, not always ME :sui:

I think the way the AI has been tweaked is cheap and lazy.

Paying for Import/Export damage on cars isn't my gripe - it's that these idiots crank up the frustration to eleven with erratic driving, pinpoint accuracy and bullet-sponge stamina.

so s balanced npc to the player..

Touché.

It's still no fun though. You know the AI is screwed up when they're already shooting at you as you respawn on foot nearly a block away.

I`m surprised of how high they can shoot from their cars into the air when transporting cars with a Bob.

I think there is nothing more to be said about general AI`s driving style than what has already been mentioned.

I wouldn't agree with that. Yes, it's designed with shark cards in mind but they haven't stopped us earning decent money and the increased difficulty of AI isn't impossible to deal with - personally I welcome the increase in difficulty, 3 years of playing against dumb AI, it needs this new challenge.

Thing is that the AI didn't get any smarter - it got more difficult to play against, but not smarter.

If the AI got an intelligence increase it would find better paths to attack, try flanking you more, try new tactics.

What I've seen since the I/E update is instances of players getting shot to death upon spawn (as in the enemy NPC begins firing before the player can actually target them properly), civillian NPCs going out of their way to get in a player's way while driving, enemy NPCs somehow emptying an entire mag of a rifle in seconds, etc.

I would welcome an actual AI improvement fix, making NPCs try new tactics, attack you in a more intelligent way, not just zerg rush the player until they die, but that's not what we've got.

While I agree that they aren't smarter (I didn't mean to imply they were) it's a new challenge none the less. Like you, I too would welcome AI improvement (along with a fix to the stealth side of things which is pretty much missing despite the stat).

The part I disagreed with was the whole money grind/shark car thing. Yes, it's been (re)built around shark cards, I don't deny that but my point is, even with the AI set to insane damage and accuracy and their pistols that beat our heavy snipers, they still give us plenty of chance to make money.

The whole game now is designed to be a money drain, grind and most importantly, has taken the unprecedented step in the last year of coding situations to MAKE you fail that are both unfair and flat out trolls.

But props to Rockstar, they are always giving us ways to earn great money, from an extra $20k for a car sale for 2 weeks or double money on adversary modes, premium races and currently double money on biker contracts (which alone made me almost $1.25m last night in a few hours!)

If it was really just about them selling shark cards I wouldn't have been able to go from this

<snip>

to this

<snip>

in a few hours of playing (and enjoying 30 contracts at 5 minutes a pop for 3 hours) last night. With 11 more days to go, that's a fairly big chunk of cheese.

That's grinding.

How is that grinding? It was fun, varied and (as can be seen by kills/deaths) had a small interval where we needed to deal with freeroam tryhards.

The selection of contracts was nice and varied. If playing the game and running contracts/jobs etc. is classed as grinding I don't know what wouldn't be, isn't that the point of playing the game? Or should I just be stood around in freeroam with my bullet proof hat on and armed to the teeth with rockets?

Either way, how many contracts would you consider as not being grinding? If I had left it 10 minutes between each and only carried out 10 of them in the 3 hours while wasting 2 hours of my time standing around being a tool I would have still earned over $300k

Usually doing the same thing over and over again for long stretches of time is grinding.

I agree. Although I don't consider doing 30 different things (no two contracts were the same, as in the bus was in a different place or the people to kill were in different places) over 3 hours to be doing the same thing over and over again for long stretches of time.

However, again, even if to you that's grinding but doing 10 different things for 1 hour wouldn't be, currently that's at least $300k. The point is, it's not necessary to buy shark cards, Rockstar haven't made it necessary to buy shark cards, Rockstar have given us ample opportunities to make money. This is the most recent ($1m in 3 hours easily), prior to this, bonus $20k per car for vehicle cargo, before that biker business bonuses for doing nothing but checking and resupplying businesses whenever you could be bothered then selling in a 15 minute max sale mission... Point is, Rockstar, despite milking that cash cow for all it's worth, remain to give us chances to make decent money.

AI drivers have been designed to go against you pretty much since the beginning of GTA.

I haven't played any of the pre-GTA3 games but if I remember correctly the AI has been purposely trying to f*ck me over in traffic in every GTA I've played.

What do you think?

This is a subjective opinion, based solely on experience with the game.

In my experience, over the course of several years, now, I've seen the NPC driving behavior become increasingly erratic, aggressive, and downright intentional.

Police reactions seem to heighten with each few updates. In 2013, a two-star level brought two cruisers. Now, in 2017, a two-star brings a swarm of 4-5 cruisers.

And as far as Gang Attacks, bad guys on Jobs, or even gangstas in the hood, the AI is ridiculously overpowering at times, or so it seems.

Again, this is just my experience. It may be that there has been no change since day one, but I just can't believe that.

To me, it's all part of the effort to get players to shoot more rounds, spend more money in-game, and buy Shark Cards.

But that's just me. Cheers!

All it takes is a few seconds standing near an officer to be shot in the face at point blank range. So I'd say the AI has no chill, yeah.

Ah, but the fun value, I play GTA, I don't consider it work or a chore. I enjoy it. If I had spent 10 hours doing the above for around 4m then I may consider it more of a chore but that's not the case.

Besides, let's say I get 100 hours of fun from a £60 game (more than reasonable - I got about 50 from ESO, much much less from R6, less from Halo 5 but a little more from FH3). I've had 25 times that from GTA. 2500 hours played as my online character, not including my original character that was erased during the first weeks of online, nor the two times I played through story.

Based on the above, some quick sums, £0.60p per hour I usually pay for some fun. GTA has given me 2500 hours of fun, so £1500 worth of fun. Bought it twice at £50 and £30 so that's now £1420 of fun I haven't paid for, and increasing every day.

No slavery here, just getting the most out of what I buy, or paying just over 3p per hour as opposed to the usual 60p per hour.

It got heavily tweaked with I/E and it's very, very annoying. What's even more insulting is when I'm stealing an X80, probably one of the most enclosed or tight vehicles in the game (small windows) is that I can get bullets drilled into me while driving fast while a SuperVolito above and behind me is flying fast and getting consecutive hits on me. That's not a challenge, it's 100% stupidity on Rockstar's part to intentionally piss off the fanbase, nor is it smart AI.

You want smart AI? Play Metal Gear Solid V.

Traffic no doubt spawns to hit players.. I used to have so many videos of that sh*t.. The subtle last second re-directs and speed change are such a pain in the ass.

Hell i've even seen cars spawn out of no where and smash into players... Including myself. They spawn at 60 mph out a bush and drive right into players. Like... WTf? lol

Heres a video of me last night riding one handed while smoking a doobie. A car comes flying down the road from out of no where.. No doubt to cut me off.. But i slow down and turn instead.. And the car basically goes from 50 mph to 2 mph in a split second to adjust to hit me.

I counted the amount of police cruisers on the highway waiting for me when stealing a car on Import/Export from Sandy Shores to La Mesa once.

39.

Thirty-f*cking-nine cars... that's 78 police officers trying to catch me for stealing one vehicle. No gun crime, no casualties.

I think the LSPD must be over-funded and over-staffed if they can commit that many resources to a single incident of car theft

Yesterday I got that sourcing mission with the amateur stealing the car and the police chase. Managed to get the idiot stuck with the car, and when I tried to get in, the cops demolished me in 0,2 seconds. The idiot flew away.

Now I might be talking out my ass, but I think a lot of the issues with NPC drivers arises out of the fact that, like the damn fashion industry, they just don't get curves. They always seem to assume that our direction of travel will remain constant when they encounter us and, by attempting to avoid a collision, they actually cause contact.

Here's the science:

gF7WtgY.gif

This is based on casual observation and it doesn't explain the random u-turns, lane changes and acceleration/deceleration. Nor does it explain why NPCs turn into oncoming traffic to avoid a collision. Or why cars making a left turn have the right of way. But it did use up 15 minutes of work time and we can all agree that's a good thing.

Nah, you're all crazy. My experience is the complete opposite. NPCs driving slow and precise. Obeying real traffic laws. Not driving like a goober on an acid trip. Not trying to run me over for no reason. They just stop and wave kindly and wait for me to go about my business. They also attack the people that are after me. It's a real friendly, help each other out, kind of scenario...😒

Nah, you're all crazy.

>goes into a thread about bad AI

>sees the numerous amount of evidences that prove how the AI cheats just to make your gaming miserable

>disregards all of that and proceeds to call the fact-providers crazy out of sheer fanboyism

Apparently subtle sarcasm, even equipped with an emoji, is too much for some. 😂 If you've never seen a post from me before, I could see the mistake, but come on...had anything I said in my post even seemed remotely close to actual in-game, experience? Don't be ridiculous. 😅
