  1. 1. How do you feel about non-contact races?

    • I feel like most of the races should be non-contact
    • Don't really care for it, I'm more of a crash and bash type of a player
    • I enjoy both contact and non-contact races just as much
    • I have no opinion
    • I prefer contact on when it's clean-ish and no one smashing on purpose

Last night I was racing like I do most of the time when I play this game. I got quickly frustrated with players in my lobby, since they were more of the "push everyone off the track" type. Changed lobby and well there we went again. Contact on, catch up on...needless to say it wasn't enjoyable. After 2500+ completed races I can honestly say that contact on as a default is the cancer in racing in this game. I think catch up might just fall into that same category. It just gives unfair tools to douchebags in races who don't care if it's fair or not and actually enjoy ruining the gameplay for other players.

Well, back to the story...after few lobbies of demolition derby I decided it's time for me to quit the whining and host a race lobby where it was going to be only non-contact. I thought I would get a lot of players since I had read about people loving non-contact, catch up off etc. A lot of players joined actually, but everytime there was a player with a mic I was being shout at things like "turn the contact on bitch" and "why is contact off you pussy" and a lot of players quitting after one race.

This made me wonder, do the majority of people doing races really love the demolition derby, pushin people off the track, driving in the wrong direction trying to hit oncoming players and the list goes on and on....

For me, non-contact races give the best excitement.

EDIT: I know this has been a topic since pretty much the start of GTA Online, alongside with catch up, but I haven't seen a poll about about it so I created one since I'm eager to see the results.

I enjoy both. I prefer non-contact on more technical tracks.

Non contact for me.

Call me all the names you want but every race I've raced in has had contacts turned on and when the race starts everyone pretty much try's to knock you out but funny thing is that when you try to knock them out yourself you either fall behind or only just slightly managed to make them do a small spin and back on the track they go.

some might say its not really racing and that its hot lapping but i much prefer it because it automatically turns off catch up and slipstream off. sure i'd like a regular contact race with slipstream and catch up turned off but you cant count on everyone following race lines and overtaking safely and often times even if you are head to head with a clean racer, lag can screw things up and make you look dirty.

There is one thing I don't like with non-contact

Let's say you and I are equally skilled driver, I start on the first line and you on the last one.

You lose the race before the green light.

I prefer contact races, as it's actually a real battle with the other players then and brings the extra difficulty of having to use other lines. When it's non-contact, I just feel like I'm racing solo. Though I still hate racing against people who think they get the win by crashing into others the most.

That being said, you should add an extra option in the poll.

Race both, but prefer non-contact, since like 80% ppl I usually see, can't race at all.

They do not know how to take corners and when to brake. Absolutly ZERO basic knowledge about that.

Other thing is, some tracks have tight spaces, where they crash and pileup, completly blocking the way.

non contact should be the default on racing. Contact only for people who want fun racing, it's a disaster otherwise. PPL just troll the races as soon as the butthurt kicks in and they go last. IMHO of course

I only host non-contact, and yeah, I get called every name in the book for it. I'd like to race contact, but unless you're only racing with friends, its pretty much guaranteed to turn into a s*** show. Between catch up slowing you down to a crawl, the ppl who think every race should be a demolition derby, and the trolls who drive backwards or block the track, its just not worth the aggravation. Non-contact relies purely on driving skill, and thats about as fair as it gets for everyone.

Well I like staying in Passive Mode throughout "normal" sessions. Not my friends. And when it comes to racing everything is allowed. Just as one time I was 1st with my Tempesta the whole race, both laps until the final checkpoint my friend hit me and flipped me with his T20. Finished up 3rd.

So Non-Contact races are good. But there's no room for your douche friends to push you off the road or hit you until you spin.

No Catch-up, no Slip-stream, full contact clean racing is my preference but you don't have an option for that.

Non Contact is just like hot lapping, it's not really racing IMO.

Non contact is the best and shows who has the most skill in a race, contact is filled with too many idiots who think slamming anyone who comes near them off the road is skill, catch-up and slipstream are both cancerous and should be off by default.

I prefer clean racing in contact. I appreciate the strategies involved in racing (as a sport) that are simply not present when you're racing ghost cars. However, the carrot to this preference is that clean racing is virtually impossible outside of a dedicated racing crew/friends/an arranged set-up before hand. It's finding a needle in a haystack of f*ckery.

When playing with randoms I strongly prefer non-contact. Sabotaging other players via crashes, pit maneuvers and other attempts that substitute brute force for skill isn't what I would call racing.

So to answer the question, depends on who I'm playing with.

I prefer contact races, yeah it may screw you over sometimes, but more often than not if you drive defensively and just focus on the course you will out race players that try to smash their way thru.

It's much more interesting than racing ghosts, and crashes are part of real life racing. And I know Gta is not real racing, but contact is closer to reality than non-contact.

I prefer the possibility of their being some argy bargy in the bends, little realistic taps here and there from those that are actually quick enough around the track to be out front while the sh*tters in chrome Adders try and shove one another off the track four corners back.

Non-contact, however, can be fun with friends, putting in hot laps and learning from the mistakes other ghosts make so you can eek out a victory without them hitting you at 70mph for the hell of it.

I feel it is a necessity. Especially in Premium Races, I don't do those but I think that was a very nice change making it so. People just love to pit you at the start so you lose.

One of the funniest things I've seen in GTA is a letsplay vid of a 30 person full contact race with mostly randoms. It of course starts out exactly as you expect it would and it was hilarious.

It depends upon the track. If it's say a very narrow track in Vinewood Hills where it is nearly impossible to cleanly pass other racers, non-contact is always the best option. If it's wide open or a track where racers can easily pass one another cleanly, contact is preferred. However, I do understand the desire for non-contact when racing among randoms--clean racers (outside of dedicated racing crews) are few and far in this game, and there isn't much that gets my blood boiling as much as being taken out or trolled in a race. Non-contact eliminates this scenario, so I don't mind it in certain situations. However, as a whole, I do prefer contact for the sake of realism and just because I find it more enjoyable with the right group of players. Also, I am definitely not a crash and bash racer--I strive to always race cleanly, but if someone purposely takes me out, I'll return the favour if I know the intents were malicious in nature (and not a product of lag or purely accidental).

Catchup and Slipstream, as I've stated many times, are curses and I detest them. As stated though, the non-contact option takes them out of the equation (except for slipstream within Premium Races), so that does indeed give me a better opinion of how I feel about using the non-contact option at times.
