Does anyone else think that stats was horrible idea?

Recommended Posts

Back in GTA San Andreas stats were something that people really liked. They changed how CJ looked, they gave you special abilities like dual wielding etc. I'm personally not a fan of them. I hated CJ buffed look, shooting stat forced to you dual wielding (annoying as f*ck) it just made game unrealistic and less immersive.

Here we are in GTA V and stats are back, but no one really asked for them? I guess they wanted go back to the arcade style of GTA:SA? They suck for both, SA fans who liked them back then and people who didn't liked them at all. They don't change character look at all (probably due to limitations and HQ models) and with maxed out stats they just make game too arcadey. That's beacuse maxing out shooting completely removes realistic CSGO-like weapon spread; driving skill makes driving, again, unrealistic by having too much control over your car. It also speeds up some of the animations, for example your character reloads Heavy Machine Gun in 2 seconds... wow. Or climbing up the ladder animation, it just looks really bad sped up like that. It's dumb and makes all those amazing detailed animations go to waste.

The worst thing about them, in my opinion, is that they create imbalance between low level, low stats players and those who have them maxed out. Low levels have no chance both in PVP and racing, against guys with maxed out stats. With maxed stamina you can roll almost without any cooldown, while without stamina stat you have 7 second cooldown... Driving is much more challanging without driving stat and strength makes player more immune to car collision and bullets. Also there's that max health skills which increaseas as player levels up. It's bad, and if there was no character stats would make PVP, racing, even PVE way more fun. It breaks balance.

To be honest Rockstar should just remove stats and make them zero by default. Game is way more fun with no stats maxed out, try by yourself by creating new character. Driving requires more skills and is challanging, shooting has realistic spread and so on. It would make the game much more realistic and make PVP, races more fun.

So, basically, you want a game with no progression. Where everyone is equal and the playing field is level... LOL. I think that you just don't want to work for anything, and that you don't want the people that do to have any advantages that you don't.

That's how everyone starts the game (unless you obtained a nodded account). How your character develops is directly proportional to how much time and effort you put into it. There will be players that want to maximize their character's potential. If you want everything to be equal, if you want the same perks, put in the time and get on their level.

they are completely pointless. I would prefer they meant something and had an effect on your character, such as ability to Dual gun if you got shooting to high rank

You could argue that thats exactly how R* appear to want the game, other than complete newbs there is no ranks or unlocks to work toward that give anyone any advantage past 120. So almost all players (newb very quickly normally) are on an even and very stale playing field for past 3 years.

An underdeveloped concept that could've been implemented more successful in the game.

To me, stats are like buying Heavy Armor. Makes you think your character is stronger or better off.

When in reality, bump into a moving car on the street and fall down, your Heavy Armor disappears and your health goes down, despite maxed stats.

Honestly, it makes players crazy when a game - any game - puts in specific features that do absolutely nothing.
Think about the turret on top of the Rhino Tank. <sigh>

So, why bother?

I would be all for it if they could get the modded accounts under control (which I don't think they have a vested interest in doing, IMO). It would take the wind out of my sails if, after playing for three years to get my character up to 822 and having some cool perks, having some douchebag with a 8000 account with the same abilities/perks/bonuses/whatever. I'm kind of torn because the motivation to level up is diminished without added upgrades etc,.

You don't get dual-gun, but you do get discounts at Ammunation with shooting skills. 13-15% off isn't insignificant.

Exactly... which I found boring and pointlessly grindy (to get from Rank-6 to Rank-10). Honestly, the only fun I had in IV's Multiplayer was the glitchy and sparse Co-Op modes and making up our own game modes using the lobby settings (no radar, etc.) with friends.

I know others did have fun with it and don't like Online, but that just proves you can't please everyone.

Oh you mean that game that hardly anyone plays anymore?

You know when progression is sh*tty? When you can forget about it. I sometimes forget that stats even exsist. Right now they just make my reload animation look bad. And that was just my suggestion to remove it, they could improve it as well, beacuse right now they are just f*cking pointless.

Also people seem to be too dumb to understand - stats =/= leveling up

Dual wielding would be ok as long as it's optional. GTA San Andreas forced it on you if you maxed out shooting skill...

Stealth sure is completely pointless and a terrible idea. It should remove you from the map if you're crouched and have a max stat

Same with Lung Capacity in a way. I mean, it's not like a maxed out lung capacity benefits most players.

But the other stuff? It's good because you can see how skilled your team is for Heists or missions. If they have a max shooting stat, you know they're probably most likely a good player.

But I do think unlocking things like Dual Wielding for maxed out shooting stats would be awesome.

I don't understand the problem. Stats give players another thing to strive for to improve. Just like levels. It may not be fair, realistic, or implemented correctly, but that is the art of GTA. They do things that are silly and don't make sense, but we accept it and take it for what it is.

#1sthu with the "REALISTIC" god you people annoy me. #2 out of all stats I hate k/d ratio the most because this game is full of idiots that thinks that sh*t really matters.

What's wrong with the game being realistic? Also the f*ck, k/d has nothing to do with character stats...

BTW How do you think people played games back in the day when there was no real progression besides getting new weapons and doing missions? I forgot about stats in GTAO while playing... You would still had leveling up and getting your skill level up, and I mean REAL skills not this "I played longer so I shoot better too beacuse the game gave me less spread than other players! yay!".

It's fake "improving". Stats don't give you real skill that you get from playing the game, not leveling up your shooting skill by killing some peds.

I wouls love them if they did the same things as San Andreas lol.

I wouls love them if they did the same things as San Andreas lol.

I would love that to come back too BUT only if you could somehow keep your stats steady AND lower them anytime you want. No "eat burgers and go to gym every 10 minutes to keep your strength stat steady".

I don't mind them at all. I love having huge amounts of ammo for my weapons.

But the stealth skill seems utterly useless as even having it maxed out means enemies can still easily detect you when you take out one of their buddies. I don't bother with melee combat when fighting other players because who the hell decides to just not use firearms on strangers in GTA:O? The dead people, that's who.

The lung capacity is a nice touch but hardly necessary unless you want to try to get away from cops or players by going for a dive. You'll need it maxed out to get away from the cops at a couple of stars. And if it's players you're running from you better have a whole bunch of rebreathers on hand but even then it's probably easier for them to head to wherever you might land for safety than it is for you to get away.

The flying skill though. What the hell? You max that out and it does nothing? What's the damn point in it when you ALWAYS still get the random turbulence? They should've just made it less realistic and made sure that a full flying skill bar eliminated that annoyance once and for all.

I love them. It's something to build up, and one of the few things that make this a decent mmo. I understand the virtual limits of under leveled toons, but I've played from level 1 a few different times and I didn't have any real issues with fighting higher levels. If anything it helps teach new people how things work in this game. It's not cod. You can't just pick it up and start winning. There is a learning curve.

Expand on the stats, Idk how anyone could hate them since they have such a minimal effect on your character at the moment.

That's kind of the reason people don't like them. One of, anyway.
