I'm on PS4, so don't really know exactly how it's done on XBOne. But judging from your story, you guys are probably quitting just a tad too early when failing. Early basically fails the heist, whereas quitting late often results in losing the finale.

The timing of quitting just changes sometimes. I think it mostly has to do with updates on the consoles and not so much updates in GTA.

Whenever a friend or I quit at the end of the Pacific Standard Finale, it will do one of two things. One is that it will make the screen flash green, then say 'player left' and proceed to fail the heist. The second thing that it does is make the screen flash and say that they left but it will go through and the person will not be in Lester's room and they will have their finale when they come back online. However, if we do another finale, after completing it (in which it does the screen/player left thing) we come back to free mode amd the person that hosted first will have to wait before doing their setups again. The whole screen flash/player left thing never existed before the Import/Export update. So what is the problem? Is it stricter timing or is it patched? Is there a similar method to doing it like the cell phone method? I used to use that method for quitting before the Xbox One 'Clubs' update which made it so I cannot see the cell phone when I go to close the game.

The timing window appears to be decreasing in range. Initially, I would count 3 seconds after the bridge and close application. When this method failed repeatedly in late August, I switched to waiting for the yellow marker to disapear then pulling out the internet cable (very late but it kills the game quicker than 'close application'. That method was bullet proof up until the week before Xmass when I lost 3 finals back to back.

 

If i find a new reliable method I will post back.

I thought it had changed. I'll do the same if I find a solid method myself.

Just close my application under the bridge (almost in the corner) and all works good. (PS4)

I noticed this somewhere around Xmas... But I have done it succesfull again this week. I wait for the map to disapear (same as the yellow marker) and pull out the cable.

On PS4 i quit out just as the boat passes the bridge. Works every time, did it 3 times yesterday for a friend, Iv'e had the finale on my 2nd character for several months now.
