mansellkarl
IMO The Getaway is better than Vice City . VS I was just wondering what all you guys think is better as i would say these two have definatly been this chrismas's best selling games. I like the getaway more because its more realistic than vice cityas Mark hammond (main character) can only hold 2 pistols and one other weapon shotgun, ak47 or mp5 and this is more realistic than tommy vercetti sticking 4 weapons in his back pocket or up his ass or whever Mr Vercetti may be hiding then. Tommy Know This We Are Watching You And Yes We Are Going To Get You. mwuhahahahaha
kennywallace
Definitely Vice City. I liked the Getaway but found it to be too linear and some missions were very similar. It was a lot more like Driver than I would have wanted. Driver was cool and innovative back in 1998, but now that type of game blows. The only thing that kept the Getaway cool was it's story mode and once you beat it you're done. Vice has more replay to it and is all-around better IMO. Realism doesn't mean too much to me. Exkabewbikadid
I'll say the same thing I said in the VC-MAFIA topic, it's comparing apples and oranges. Each game has it's pros and cons that will appeal to different people. However, from a technical standpoint, VC blows TG away. The Getaway lacked the refinement neccessary to make it a great game. The potential was there, but it just didn't happen, even though it spent 3 years on development. There are way too many glitches and way too little gameplay in the Getaway. If they had offered an in-game map, side missions, unique jumps, etc, it would have improved it trememndously. As far as the glitches, those should have been ironed out more before release. The remake of London should have been a more interactive too, such as the ability to get on roof tops. Overall, I like the Getaway, but it just felt so incomplete as though there is a lot of potetial for more to do. Go check out the topic in blargh > gaming chat called "Getaway 2" if you want to discuss ideas for a possible sequel.
aggressor27
Who cares about reality? If I wanted reality, I'd buy the new NBC Presents: Peter Jennings: Rebutle Challenge for PS2 or some sh*t. I, like most people, like VC for it's playability and storyline, if any. Not for realism. Games are supposed to be void of that anyway.
Mark Hammond
I like um both fo different reasons. VC for the bikes and TG for the missions and script.
captian_cannabis
I like the idea of real cars in the getaway i also like the free roam but the missions can lead you to get bored of the game (not because of plot but because of difficulty). I like Vice city better but the getaway is still a must have in the collection.
Goodfella.
id say vice theres a lot more there and a lot of humor , i think the getaway was too repetative
mer cinder
I don't know, I like vice city more for the fun factor... and yes video games shouldn't be too realistic... But for plot The Getaway is way better Controls and stuff are better in VC, I hate how you go up stairs in The Getaway, it just screw you over, he looks like a little girl playing hopscotch. VC will always be better, but I'm always a little bit dissapointed in the plotline of GTA games, it's such a great engine, but the plot really can get predictable and tired at times. An amalgam of the two, maybe the Getaways graphics engine, plot, and wall and roll features, combined with the setup and cars and level, general design of VC
Lance_Vance_Dance
Rockstar said they didnt want to replace reality for fun thats why tommy carrys all the weapons. Imagine you get one star for running a red light! The getaway is too boring for me i think vice city is more exciting in the missions and the scripting as well. No one beat Umberto LOL BIG COJONES
WidowMaker
Well this is a really original topic, I'm sure no one has ever done this before. VC is better than almost every game, there really is no competition even with these childish comparison topics.

AZAZEL
I've completed both games, and VC was clearly the funiest and coolest, where TG is more realistic, and has a better storyline. VC wins this on playability and replayability, it's almost impossible to control the character in TG which is very frustrating, and when you complete it, there's nothing else to do than cruising London... yarn! Very boring! Also, in one of the first interviews with the developer of VC, he mentions that he would never put realism above gameplay, which is exactly what TG does. Very bad indeed! [ZERO]
Well, considering that this is Vice City General Discussion, I would have to say Vice City.
