Popular Post Kirsty
Introducing the "News" section...Traditionally, the GTA Network has established a leading fansite at the launch of every Grand Theft Auto game. They're all still there and they all still contain valuable resources, but over the last few years we admit that time has been spread very thinly between us to the point where development of GTA V and GTA Online dedicated resources has been pretty much non-existent. We'll be working on this in 2017, but for now we apologise, you'll forgive us won't you...?All of our focus has been on maintaining GTAForums, which is the beating heart of the GTA Network and has more than earned its place as one of the biggest GTA community forums on the Interweb, even after all these years. We're built on the unadulterated opinions of GTA fans and have grown organically into a community that provides a free-flowing commentary for our guests and instils a loyalty in our members that keeps them coming back for more. I mean, the place might also be rampant with bitchers, moaners and casuals making unrealistic demands, and a week doesn't go by where our Moderators aren't accused of power abuse, but you get the point.Anyway, I digress. We'd like to start highlighting the community (you guys) more for the time and effort you put into sharing your ideas, thoughts and creations here. Your activity keeps us going and we do value that, so we've created this News section to give a little back. We know it's basic right now and the foundations we've laid might look a little bit like a Newswire re-hash at the moment, but as time goes on the plan is to organise it a little better and flesh it out more to become a feed of official news, spotlight topics, interviews and showcases that originate from within the GTA community. We'll also hopefully have some contests for (real) prizes and goodies along the way. We're aware the likes of Twitter and YouTube can be saturated with news updates and that's more popular these days, so we're not trying to compete with that, we know we're never going to be first in getting news out there, but that isn't really our goal. This is just a new venture for GTAForums so were going to carry on anyway and see how it goes. If you don't want to click into this section, simply ignore it. No one here gets paid, so theres no pressure and no clickbait. If you're interested in supporting us, then drop by sometime, have a read and post a comment. Let us know if you have any tips, feedback, ideas or want to volunteer going forward.Cheers N.B. This section isn't a traditional subforum, but it will be moderated to our official rules. We welcome comments, but we still encourage people to use the linked dedicated topics in the relevant subforums for actual discussion. Yan2295
Ah the good old times when the official fansites were kept alive and were the #1 place to get infos about upcoming games. Back when Twitter, YouTube and clickbait were not a thing, at least not for GTA infos. This almost feels like a throwback to 2006. Good luck with that new project! Thanks Yan There's certainly some nostalgia for us in this, we haven't reported on news officially for ages now. We know we can't compete with social media but we're still going to have fun posting great things from around the community. I hope it can provide a few good reads for people at the very least. Ash_735
I remember the days of posting news articles on GTAGaming, was always fun when we ventured off away from the "set plans" of regurgitating News Wire posts, ironically they were sometimes the ones that got us in trouble with them. Sugar Free Nos
While the actual News purpose of this new thing will be great, I can't wait to see what subsections of the real GTA community end up getting highlighted here. Unlike the Newswire, I feel that a section like this has the opportunity to highlight the "real" GTAO players and the different sub-communities that exist in GTAO. Whether that is groups who do deathmatches, races, stunts, or whatever, the sub-communities highlighted here from GTAF will be super cool. Secretly that's my favourite part Do you still write stuff yourself? If you want to get back into it we could partner up. Definitely, there are a lot of small communities that put in a lot of work doing what they do, highlighting them is much fairer (and more interesting IMO) than the every day stuff you see shared. I know you do a lot of specialised racing stuff, if you've got any ideas you yourself could talk about then let me know I hope the actual 'community pages and events' get picked too.... *Hint, hint, down there, \/* We'd enjoy nothing more than promoting the crews that call GTAF their home, you can definitely expect that! BenDeR
This is great to hear. GTANet has so much potential, it's a shame that GTAV.net has been "abandonned" for a while now. [sELF-PROMOTION ON] I have been administrating and writing news for GTANF.com for many years now (yes, it's French) and I have some suggestions that might help. Most of them might seem obvious: [/sELF-PROMOTION OFF] - Don't just copy/paste what is on the Newswire because... There is no point in doing that. Add your own "touch" to the articles posted on the Newswire. Do some community stuff like fan pics and fan videos round-ups from time to time. Members usually like that. Try to feature different members. - News should definitely appear on GTAV.net to make it feel alive again. And you should also put a link to your articles on your social networks. - Do NOT post controversial stuff. Never. - You need some editors in the staff that will be on the lookout for the news and that will write them... Because it's one hell of a job to do this alone when you have other stuff to think about. - And most importantly: Have FUN doing it. This is not rivalry! I hope these little tips will help. Oh, and don't forget to visit GTANF.com - your #1 French Grand Theft Auto source! Jimmy
This is a great idea Kirsty. It will save people like me a lot of time, people who don't read the Newswire regularly. I was previously focused on the Update topics in GTA:O Section. But an expansion is really good. Nice of you to make this section and keep this going everyone. Jimmy
So is this like only gonna be GTA-Related news or also news about things happening around the forum?Seeing that all the other topics in this section are GTA related, that'll be the what News section is all about. I think other Forum related stuff still belong to Announcements. Kirsty
Thank you for the tips, very sound advice. We'll hopefully have a little group of editors promoted to help out and keep the ball rolling. So is this like only gonna be GTA-Related news or also news about things happening around the forum? We'll post anything related to GTA, Red Dead, Rockstar, but our main goal is to focus on community stuff from around the forums, so it won't solely be about "official news". We have things planned for that, but right now we're still laying foundations.

Mid Night Club
This might seem dumb, but how about some sort of virtual newspaper or something? Main page can have general news, there can be different sections of it, just like IRL. Columns can be provided for different content writers with different skill sets and views. Like you can provide a humor section for people like Ken M or people of his sort. A coding section for coders etc. etc. 15-20 e-pages? I know it'll be a lot of work, but then bringing up a whole forum based on GTA was hard as well, and I think it'll be pretty cool. BenDeR_ said he's been writing for GTANF for some time, so he can be a top contributor. Picking the good cherries like BenDeR_ and some others ( *ahem* like me ) and leaving out the bad ones ( trolls ) will however be your job, but I'm sure you can manage. Or let it be a rotating squad, different writers each day/week. I have exams coming, but I'll gladly be a volunteer once the tsunami passes and I get into college, which will probably be around June-July, unless I fail my entrance exams, in which case I'll jump in front of a train. reward the best writer, every day/week, with a one day ban Edited January 2, 2017 by Mid Night Club
