Is the PS2 a complete piece of garbage....

Or is it some other little magical mystery that most movies and many games, including Vice (my favorite) won't read. I get a friggin disk read error every time I try to load VC among others. Hell, the NES wouldn't read the cartridges most of the time, but at least you could just blow in it, and it would work. Piece of Junk...

its not that hard. just clean the disc with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Thats what i use and thats what R* reccomends.

If you get scrathes on you disc its almost sure the game will crash. Take care of your games. I was my discs once a month with a disc cleaning machine. These cleaners are not expensive! Only 5 Euros (5 $;) or something like that.

It's most likely because your disk is scratched.

My GTA3 disk was just about f*cked with too many scratched that you couldn't tell what was scratched and what wasn't. good thing it came out on PC a week later :D

I have had a revelation. i now take care of all my cd's, music or pc or ps2.

And now my GTAVC disk doesn't even have a scratch after 120 hours of gameplay.

It's not the discs that are the problem.....Get a lens cleaner....

If your game is freezing, it's because your CD is either dirty or scratched....try this stuff: Scotch CD Scratch Remover and Polisher Solution....this stuff works like a charm to help with scratches.

I read this on the internet somewhere and it fixed all my disk read errors! NO JOKE!!!

The title was something like this

"100% guaranteed disk read error fix!"

I was like well, I'll give it a try.

The PS2 was I think second release but not positive.

Anyways, this involves taking your PS2 apart which will VOID ANY WARRENTY!!!! So only follow if your warrenty is no more!

Remove the top of the PS2, this envolves removing the 4 screws from the top part of the PS2 as well as 2 on the bottom (with PS2 upside down and the front facing you, the 2 you want are the one in the back right and the one to the left of it. they will be longer then the rest!;) BE CAREFUL HERE!

Carefully turn your PS2 over to normal and carefully flip the top over to the right. There is a ribbon for the power buttons so very careful! Once you have the top off you must plug in your PS2 and bring the disk tray out with the eject button. Then unplug your PS2. BE CAREFUL!!!

Now you need a really small star screw driver for the 4 small screws on the disk drive. when the screws are out you can now remove the top. TRAY MUST BE OUT!

Now with a uncontaminated Q tip and some windex you can clean the laser (Spray windex or other STREAK FREE glass cleaner on a plate or bowl or whatever, dip the Qtip, only a little! GENTLY swab the lens, DO NOT DRY!!!! you will scrach your lens if you dry!

Now, the other part!

There is a little white dial with teeth and a hole, to the right of it is a small metal thing with a visable indent. By turning the dial clocwise you will notice a slight adjustment in the position fo the laser, when you complete a rotation the laser will popback up. Line the hole on the dial with the indent on the metal thing and your all set. Replace the top of the disk drive. now you can put it all back together or just plug it in and test it out.

Now this worked so well for me, however, every month or so I seem to have to repeat the procedure, but NO JOKE, if your warrenty is out i would recomend trying these steps because it really does work!

Good Luck and Enjoy!

You do that and your warranty with both Sony and and the store you bought your PS2 in will be null.  Now lets see how many morons "qoute" what Ryan said, all 1000 words.

[EDIT]  By the by, hoping your PS2 is on a wooden or plastic counter or container, dust it off every once in a while to keep all of that crap out of your PS2.  And for the love of God, don't put your machine on cloth of any kind, the reason is self explanitory.

well you can kiss my ass, i made it very clear that it would void your warrenty dick head. for me this cured all my problems. take it as you want it.

Actually this will be the 1st time I have agreed with ryan price...

The little white dial is called the dvd pot and is sure to clear up a lot of problems if your ps2 will only read purple bottom games (cd) and not silver bottom games (dvd).

Although this will void your warranty your warranty doesn't last forever. Besides...you can use a blow dryer to remove the warranty sicker with out leaving behind the void mark...

Yea my ps2 gets a little freaky ever now and again. I called sony and they said the if i sent it to them (1-7 days) that they would fix it in a month of buisness day and send it back last class (7 days) I hatethat the do that because i couldn't be without it for like 2 months. :beerhat:  :rampage:  :die:

The disc cleaners are actually useless CD-R discs with a piece of cloth pasted to the surface.

They don't clean it right because it might just scratch the lence that reads the disc. I suggest that you get your ps2 to a professional that cleans the lence with cleaning spray that fades away itself. This way the lence won't get scrathched.

I see that this is very common problem with ps2's.

Wel, I don't say it to be funny, I say it to give respect to Kcow and his wonderful mapper software.

So what happened to aggressor? After calling me a moron he doesn't show his face again?

I can't wait for Vice City for PC!

And do try the method I explained, it really does take care of a lot of problems!

Good luck!
