You cannot play o without buying gta. And it is not an entire new game. Glitchers would not have bought shark card anyway. Glitching (or duping for) money in a game where you can buy virtual cash with real cash is evil (for you, t2, r* and paying players). Ban policy is clear. R* seems to act not to harsh at the moment. Virtual economy misuse is criminal in some states. AGNT009, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore.

Edit: never duped ot glitched. Grinded hard. Daily objectives with two characters. And a shark card every now and then (should have bought 3 megalodon instead of m3 and wd2 golddeluxewhatevercrap - because this game deserves my money more than many newer aaa titles).

GTA Online IS Free to Play. All the stuff your $60 earned you in single player didn't transfer to your online life. Basically you got an entirely new game with all thats been released by now in relation to assets you can own. Glitching has killed HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS in profit they could have made if everyone was honest and they offered a lot of in game wealth for much cheaper dollar prices.

Source? Evidence?

Sounds like you're spitballing wildly for anything to support your ideas. You've gone from having an opinion not shared with most of community to being factually incorrect and/or inaccurate. I'd recommend you stop digging.

EDIT: I also second the call to lock this thread. It's not going anywhere constructive or pleasant.

No we didn't. GTA "Online" is simply GTA V's multiplayer; not a different game.

God, I thought this couldn't get any more stupid.

It's a bum idea. It failed. You may as well get over it.

I thought the same thing. Although GTA V and GTA Online use the same assets, map, etc...Rockstar do consider Online and GTA V to be completely separate titles.

They can consider whatever they want. GTA V has writing on the back saying it features multiplayer for 2-32 players - if it doesn't (which it can't if GTA Online isn't part of the game), then they've lied.

It's basically just BS playing on words and semantics by those who view everyone as peasants and just want to leach everyone dry. It's people trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Since even the OP of the thread is insulting everyone, and the mods haven't done anything, I'm going to see this thread as an anything-goes area, and just put my heli video here lol.

Edit: Now they'll probably crack down on this thread in seconds.

GTA Online IS Free to Play.

Stop right there. In order to play GTAO, you need a PS Plus or Xbox Live membership, both of which are $60 and upwards. PC is free but at that expense comes poor server connections and the 90% increase in modders/hackers that can jeopardize your gameplay by turning you into a toilet. On PS3 yes it is still free to play, but with used PS4's and Ones plummeting in price (I only paid about $180 each for both my PS4 and Xbox this past July), people are adopting to those for GTA gameplay now.

Because Rockstar believes that a stock faggio should have more armor than a military helicopter.

It's free to play? Cool! Some of my friends don't own GTAV and yet would like to play Online, where can they get it for free?

How about stable server?

How about working anti cheat?

How about no insecure P2P server but dedicated ones?

How about quality tests before releasing an update?

Frankly, in my few years playing this game and the even fewer years reading and posting in this thread I have never, and I repeat, NEVER see something quite as stupid as this guy's idea.

I do respect it as being his opinion and all but... You're out of your mind.

Back in December, 2013, I bought $80 worth of Shark Cards. A few days later "Billionaire Days" happened.

I was like, "Oh, cool."

Then Billionaire Days was patched, all the money was wiped, and I was down to ZERO. My Shark Card money was GONE! (or maybe they started everyone out with half a million, I forget).

I was like, "Oh, uncool."

Fast forward two years and I own a yacht named "Dead Hooker Glitch".

So... No to six weeks snow, I live in the north and want to escape it..., and No to locked card content.

While it does cost money to play online on PS4/XBOne, that is Sony and Microsoft's BS, not Rockstar's. That's like blaming Rockstar for the shape of the controller or the cost of your internet service.

Rockstar has a whole pile of things to yell at them about without adding stuff they don't have any say over.

You know whats curious, if Rockstar thought their current online extortion rates were doing great, and supported their DLC work to THEIR satisfaction, why ISNT Online free to download on the console stores? The file would be MUCH smaller without the single player story content. The fact they arent doing this may be foretelling that I might be right and they are actively looking for a way to get more money per player from the 70 mil copies they sold. According to all of you, their current format is making them enough without the usual F2P lockbox gimmicks. Lockboxing I want to head off at the pass before it comes to that.

Stopped playing a long time ago. I was ready to pay for quality DLC without any grind (too busy), but what's on offer is not good enough to justify the price. And considering the situation where the community will leave in case DLCs will be paid only, somehow, this is not the thing with Forza. Still playing it weekly, still a lot of people are there online and there is zero possibility to get anything new without paying for DLC.

And to this free DLC stuff, let's be logical. First of all, I want to you to renew your understanding of what "free" means. Are you getting new items in your garage/ inventory after logon or on demand with 0 charge? Well, it's not free then. The fact that you can play the game to earn in-game money to PAY for the FREE DLC items is illogical by itself, but people are still spinning this narrative. It's annoying as hell.

Second, quality. R* is not charging us not because they're cool/hip or whatever word is used right now to describe this, but simply because it's IMPOSSIBLE to sell the crap they're peddling for it's face value! Wake up, people! If Forza developers can afford to charge us $1 per car with that licensing fees, R* sure can match it. But they won't. Because it's easier to milk the impatient crowd who don't want to "play the game" to earn money.

In my opinion, the best solution is to keep current policy for the sake of conservatism, but simultaneously introduce premium DLCs that are more fitted to the demands of community based on constant feedback with different timeline. Ex: free* DLC every 4-5 months, but paid DLC every month (vote-based system to choose what people want). That may work.

They extended the snow this year by 2 days so far. I'm happy with that, hopefully they do the same for New Years!

But it would be cool to get a snow period or two during the winter for like a week.

I don't think Shark Cards should be a different currency, this would do more harm than good and FORCE micro transactions on players rather than it being a choice.

Prices are higher because players can earn significant amounts in a myriad of ways compared to back in 2013.

It was extremely hard to make a $1M back then, but now you can easily make more than a million in one session.

I sold 2 large warehouses for $3.33M each plus sold two Po jet Watches for $225K, Meth, Coke and exported a few collections, plus Top End exports, played some X2 $ events and earned over $20M Christmas Weekend.

It's not hard to earn money now.

Online isn't free because Rockstar knows it would soil their image.

And the community. The state of the community at large is bad enough, adding in the plague that usually swarms F2P titles would make it even worse. Cheating would also become more common as it'd be easy to just make a new account and start again if you got banned. Horrible idea.

A while ago, unannounced, they gave Cargobobs (for the most part) to players that had bought any Shark Card any time in the past (even those that already owned a Cargobob). That's the only time they have offered any game-content for a card purchase; but that was a retroactive "thank you". They do bonus-money offers occasionally, but they never lock content behind it.

Perhaps they looked at other companies that do that and saw the returns aren't improved much? Perhaps the badwill from the playerbase exceeds the sales bump?

They could:

  • Keep it like it is with optional purchases for money that can still be earned in-game with time/effort
  • Offer a "free" item, along with the bought money that you could otherwise get in-game 1
  • Offer a "free" item, along with the bought money that you could not otherwise get in-game 2
  • Sell in-game items for real money, but also available via in-game means 3
  • Sell in-game items for real money that aren't available via in-game means 4
  • Make GTAO a subscription service (and keep Shark Cards)
  • Make GTAO a subscription service (but do away with Shark Cards)
  • Abandon the game and produce no further content (presumably to work on a whole new Online experience)
  • Eat bacon all day

1 Like the way Collectors Edition owners have free Hotknife/Khamelion/CarbonRS and free $25k garages, forever

2 Like the "I Heart LC" shirt" (though that was for buying a unrelated product)

3 Imagine that for $3.99 you would get a free Nero Custom with free mods. You can have up to one at a time, unlimited times, but you can't sell them for money

4 Imagine a Insurgent-like vehicle that works like a mobile, armored Anti-aircraft vehicle, like the yachts' AA defenses. Can't get it in-game, but for $5.99 it's added to your Pegasus list

A very entertaining read!!!

An obvious no vote though...

I'd explain but clear to see the OP is looking for people to bite... Nope... Nothing to add, so many posts have covered the clear stupidity of this entire topic.

sorry but for me "free DLC" means downloadable content that i don't have to pay ... thats exactly what we get.

of course you have to unlock/earn some items (pay with in game cash in this case) - that's pretty common in games to give people a reason to play.

it's not illogical - it's what you will find in most games out there.

Real life example: if you have a coupon for a "free" burger at [insert fastfood franchise] - it won't be free by your definition because you have to go there and "pay" with a coupon.

and sorry again but paid DLC's would only lead to more cost for the players - i highly doubt the quality would rise.

R* earns/earned more then enough via sales and shark cards - they just don't need to give us more for our money.

I played a lot of games and more then one changed from free or subscription based to a free2play model like you and AGNT009 want - 90% or more it was a decrease of quality afterwards - resulting in a game feeling like a cheap china mmo with decreasing player numbers.

I wouldn't mind paying for DLC's, subscription or whatever but it would hurt this game more then it would help.

And before that argument rises again: No, I never glitched or modded money nor did I take money from modders - and I have everything I wanted.

Legit and Proud.

[EDIT - damn got trapped again - can any mod please close this damn thread?]

I don't have the time to go through nine pages of comments at the moment, but this idea of making certain items only available through Sharkcard purchases--Hell no! Are you serious?

I can appreciate your efforts in wanting more out of what they actually buy, but most of us have bought this game more than once already and I'd say that quite a few of us are in no position financially to start throwing down real money just to have competitive race cars or a suitable high end apartment. To say that the increase in prices are centred around glitching is a huge assumption that holds no stable ground. There is absolutely zero evidence for this, and it really shouldn't matter how much the next player has as it is. There isn't much difference between say $50M legitimate and $1B glitched and locking "necessary" content behind Sharkcard sales is an excellent way to alienate your customers even more than they already have been. "Necessary" corresponds more to having to pay real money for the cars that can even hold up in a random race. If this were to happen, I'd simply move on and stop playing--I'm not about to start throwing down real money upon the release of every new DLC just so that I can race or obtain items that may slightly better my chances whilst playing the game as a whole.

This isn't a job and most of us haven't the time to sit around and grind all day either. What's the fun in doing that anyway? I can understand and appreciate doing a few things here and there on repeat to obtain some spending money, but again, to limit a significant portion of items to Sharkcard buyers--f*ck no. What would even be the point in earning game money if you couldn't use it to buy the things that you actually need? Also, what happens if I decide to sell one of those new super cars that required Sharkcard money? Am I going to get half my actual money back from R* or will selling it translate to in-game money that can only be used to buy the cars that haven't a chance in the world to win a race?

No offence, but this idea is ridiculous and it pretty much equates to telling established customers to "pay up or f*ck off".

No thanks.

Just have an option to enter "Snow" or "No Snow" lobbies when launching the game - everyone is happy, everyone is playing the game, and everyone will approve of R* whichever option they prefer

Not even going to touch the point about Shark Cards, not with a ten-foot pole...
