Helegad
About a decade ago, a Rockstar dev shared some information with Manhunt fans. This was one of his statements: The reason why Grand Theft Auto III was never published on the Gamecube was due to the disk size, the audio would have to be further compressed in order to fit it on the disk, it had nothing to do with the games content nature or how it would look, the game actually looked better than its counterparts due to the Gamecubes ability to load textures so easily. inadequate
Interesting. Which was the total size of a Gamecube disc against a PS2 4.7GB DVD disc? EDIT: A Gamecube disc size was of 1.5GB. Helegad
And they both use sh*tty WMA v8 audio which could be hardware decoded, saving CPU cycles. Sergiu
They probably just dropped the port due to the console itself not being as popular as the rest of the platforms. Similarly to the cancelled DC port. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/875928-gamecube-version/#findComment-1069287223 Share on other sites
Helegad
They probably just dropped the port due to the console itself not being as popular as the rest of the platforms. Similarly to the cancelled DC port. ... and this is the rest of the post. I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the possibilities of it happening [Manhunt 2 on Wii]. In the past development has been carried out on Nintendo hardware, even up until recently. Because nothing was released on the Gamecube doesn’t mean there is no interest, it just means it wasn’t the right move to make. You will no doubt be surprised to know that one of the games released within the past 12 month [september 2005 - September 2006, probably The Warriors] by Rockstar was initially considered to be primarily for Nintendos console, this was until the company moved their attention onto their future hardware and dropped support. The development kit for the Wii is very similar to the Gamecube, picking up from where things left off would not be so difficult. The reason why Grand Theft Auto III was never published on the Gamecube was due to the disk size, the audio would have to be further compressed in order to fit it on the disk, it had nothing to do with the games content nature or how it would look, the game actually looked better than its counterparts due to the Gamecubes ability to load textures so easily. If you consider yourself a fan of all things Rockstar then I suggest you quickly get your head around the fact that games may be released on other consoles. Would you like to further speculate? And yeah, I highly doubt that deepthroat guy was a developer. Helegad
Manhunt 2 has a really interesting development history. Various sources indicate Manhunt 2 was finished by Rockstar Vienna, then heavily altered by Rockstar North & Co. Some of the things 'deepthroat' mentioned are just true. You can trust this source. Helegad
You haven't done ANY research, while I've done a sh*tload of it. How's that for "coincidence" and "speculation"? NumaYay
The Gamecube was one of my first consoles and I absolutely loved it. I love Nintendo in general. But choosing such small discs was an incredibly stupid decision, I never understood why Nintendo chose that direction with the NGC. Jimmy
It seems like another canceled port due to lack of platform popularity I guess. I wonder what the file size would have been. universetwisters
You haven't done ANY research, while I've done a sh*tload of it. How's that for "coincidence" and "speculation"? I just don't feel like forum posts by random people could be considered valid proof for something. If the source you quoted (but didn't link, as to why I don't know) had a legitimate source from it, I'd be more inclined to believe it. universetwisters
No, there isn't a good reason. People aren't going to take forum posts from random people on the Internet as a fact. Or at least they shouldn't, not unless the aforementioned random person has enough facts to back up their evidence.
