AMD Zen and Vega

Vega FE gaming mode is starting to look like windows gaming mode, nothing happens when you switch it on :p

For $1000 it's not decent. Not really.

I buy NVIDIA only because they are the only ones that make high end GPUs. I'm sure that plenty of AMD fans are wishing for higher end options from them as well.

the RX Vega gaming edition will be a high end Gpu, at least on 3D mark its showing 15% better then the 1080

Windows gaming mode doesn't even work as far as I am aware. Except maybe for UWP games.

I'm still considering getting a 1080 Ti this year and that will be the last major upgrade for me. AMD is not really doing anything to change the game drastically but hopefully prices will drop. I'll save up for a new build in a year or two.

Wasn't the Fury X better than a GTX 980? This is nothing new.

dammit AMD I just wanted a GPU that is equivalent to the 1080ti at a lower price

i find it hard to believe that AMD could kick butt with ryzen and yet have an underwhelming launch for vega. there is still an ounce of hope in me left that the highest-tier vega will miraculously be as good as the 1080ti, but that hope is dwindling every day.

the RX vega has a TDP that is roughly the same as a 1080ti but doesn't even perform the same. give me a break. despite having a freesync monitor, i will likely go with team green on this one unless the price is really damn good.

Maybe AMD should sell their GPU department. How old is 1080Ti? And Vega may be more expensive due to HBM2.

I know for sure I won't buy buying the top tier Vega GPU as that one consumes a lot of power than 1070/80/Ti and I don't need and want that sh*t in my PC.

So my next GPU will be either 1070, 1080 or 1080Ti. Untill that day comes, my current GTX780 still working fine.

yeah okay their highest end rx vega will most likely be on par with a GTX 1080. with the TDP that it has, it's not good enough.

for CPUs, it's best to stick with AMD since intel doesn't know what the fu*k they are doing with X299. but for high-end GPUs i'd rather go with novideo, since rx vega will be too powerhungry for its performance. i have a freesync monitor, but i will likely get a GTX 1080/1080Ti in spite of that.

IMO the problem isnt if its better or worse then a gtx1080, but how late they always are in the GPU race, when they do the market is already saturated with the new Nvidia generation, at least on the high end market

I don't think they have the money to invest in developing a truly high end GPU or they don't care to. I mean the difference in revenue between AMD and NVIDIA is not that big. NVIDIA has already invested $3 billion in Volta and if this is the best that AMD could come up with they really can't compete at the high end.

If you have a Fury X, the RX Vega is not worth it.

which card should i get? the rx vega 64 or the GTX 1080? they are the same price, and roughly the same perfomance.

one of them has a higher TDP of 250W, but the other is not compatible with freesync.

Wait for the benchmarks. The ones AMD went for in the promo video are just DX12/Vulkan tests which don't really tell us much given that most games run on DX11.

If Vega were somehow amazing, and Nvidia's response, I might've been tempted by 4K/Ultrawide. But I'll be getting a much more sensible 2K one, from my 6-year-old 1200p. I'll put it off till next year if I can, as I'm not too itchy yet.

so what the hell is going on with Vega prices going up before release, rebates etc?

They weren't meant to be all that competitive to begin with from what I can tell.

What do you mean? the performance is what was expected out of the 64: better then the 1080 but not even close to the 1080TI. in Cpu's they are way cheaper then the competition, and it seems they are going a different route in Gpu's.

the other thing is the "packs" and rebates as bait for sales, in reality no retailer is doing it, and if you want to buy the Gpu alone its out of stock

Vega 64 is as good as GTX1080 but at a cost of higher TDP and more expensive, as expensive as GTX1080Ti in some countries.

Well, I'd pick up the 1080Ti instead of Vega 64.

Not bad but they really have to compete in terms of price. I'd still get a 1080 Ti though. If you can afford this or the 1080 then you can probably save for a Ti.

I so nearly pulled the trigger on a 1080ti this week. Have decided that I'd rather get a silly monitor (2K IPS GSync ViewSonic).

It has the same panel as the Acer Predator and AOC variants but it comes with thick ugly ass bezels. The Acer model looks the best in that regard but I like the stand on the AOC one more.

The 1080 Ti is tempting especially now that I can find it at $900 (although I would still prefer to pay less; the 980 Ti was $850 when I got it and it was months after release too) but I'm also thinking of investing in some professional audio gear since I'm not really playing games on PC that much. I should probably get a G-sync monitor first and perhaps wait for Volta.

Missed out on a 970 for £140 the other week, little older now but it would've been a welcome upgrade as I can't really think of any other cards (used or not) that would give that great price to performance; wouldn't have been too bothered if it wasn't for the fact it was in a whole rig consisting of an FX 8 series, an Asus board, 8GB of DDR3, 600w OCZ PSU, Antec case, DH14 and some other stuff. Most used 970s are still going for upwards of £170 so as you can guess someone snapped it up ASAP, chucked in another 8GB of RAM and resold it for about £400 I think.

For 400 pounds you should be able to get a 980 Ti at least. I will eventually be selling mine for way less than that.

Oh I wasn't planning on spending £400 on a GPU (to be honest that comes in at more than I paid for my whole system) nor do I really need something on the higher end of things I was just highlighting the decent resale the fella got; If I had managed to get it I'd have pretty much sold off everything bar the card which would essentially make the money back that would've been spent. If you're in the UK and don't mind buying used it's definitely a nice group to check out, seen a few absolute steals on certain components since I joined it in January.

The Predator and AOC look like a ROG fanboy wet dream, as does the ROG (quelle suprise). It's a lot less effort for me to wrap two tiny green highlights in yellow vinyl than it is basically the whole monitor.

It's also between two and three hundred (!) pounds cheaper (currently at £599 on Amazon) and seems less prone to backlight bleed than the AOC, which was my initial top choice.

I've got a buyer for my 1080 at work happy to wait, and to pay circa £500, so whenever I want to upgrade to a ti I can really. And cheap.

I don't know what AMD is doing but Vega64 being as expensive or more than 1080Ti is a serious horrible management.

I'm so eager too to go for the 1080Ti. I'm not gonna wait for Navi to be disappointed again.

an rx vega 64 costs 950 CAD. the cheapest 1080 Ti is 1000.

HA! no thanks AMD.

in here (Portugal) the reference (blower) Vega 64 goes for 730.00 while the Gigabyte 1080TI black costs 740.00

the watercooled version, the vega 64 wave goes for 845.00 while the Msi 1080TI Seahawk X goes for 865.00

what are they thinking ?

The price gouging is related to demand for the cards as ethereum mining hardware, now that the proper drivers for it are out. Superior OpenCL performance and bespoke drivers for cryptocurrency hashing mean most cards are selling at £150 over RRP at the moment.

really ? i thought the power consumption was enough to keep miners away from vega 64

don't most miners tend to underclock/volt their cards to reduce power usage/heat output anyway?
