You Have 300 Million Budget: Make a GTA

Recommended Posts

- Is it SP or MP focused?

>Multiplayer focused with singleplayer elements (freedom to do missions in solo sessions and such, heists can be fitted with hired AI). Unlike GTA Online, a lot of freedom in what players can do with each other (sharing money, trading cars, etc), and how they can make money (legitimately with owning true businesses, or rising up through petty crime to gain criminal businesses, or a mix of both). Ideally, anti-cheat is extremely good (near-impossible in this day and age but just a wish lol). Micro-transactions would be minimal, not as invasive or prominent like in current GTA Online (inflated pricing on normal consumer vehicles to make you grind or spend real money more is ridiculous.). More PVP elements such as the ability to steal other players cars to keep or sell, cargo from delivery missions instead of destroying it, etc. But, there are things you can buy and do to circumvent this (Choice of tougher delivery vehicles, tougher security, electronic locks, etc.) Other players can work for organizations with wages chosen by the boss.

- Do you have multiple protags?

>Up to 5 characters can be created, with the options of sharing banks, assets, etc.

- Is there multiple cities?

> Yes, Los Santos, Las Venturas, and finally San Fierro, with a countryside and small towns sprinkled throughout. Essentially the San Andreas map remade to modern standards and larger than the GTA V map. Each city very different from one another in style and feel. Theaters, golf courses, and other recreational activities can be found in these cities to partake in.

- Where is your GTA set?

>Kinda hard for me to pick an era ngl, but this game would either take place in the early 2000's or just modern day. I would ABSOLUTELY not have anything futuristic like MK2's or flying vehicles with ridiculous weapons. Military aircraft would be VERY hard to steal or something you'd have to buy later on in your career. You would have to potentially go to flight school to know how to fly at all possibly.

- How big is your map?

>1.5-2 times bigger than V,  a man can dream lol. Variety of climates and landscapes that reflect the Western US more accurately. Remote areas will truly feel remote (middle of the desert in Las Venturas area, stuff like that). Plenty of fun landmarks and areas to explore (military bases, abandoned towns, sewer systems, and more).

- What's the theme?

>Making a name for yourself, whether it be owning an empire (para-military organization, drug organization, etc.) or being a legend in the underworld (street-racing, heists, etc.). Simple premise but I think the rivalry with other players could be fun and interesting, plus this Online would not be forcing you to buy every business that exists lol. The focus of this Online would be the freedom of players and wide array of choices.

Also, maybe dedicated servers. Rockstar may have their reasons for P2P though. I imagine an Online-based game like this would be a separate entity, built off of a previous single-player GTA in the same generation potentially.

- Is it SP or MP focused?

Single-player focused.

- Do you have multiple protags?

No. Just one protagonist, but with an option to choose between male or female.

- Is there multiple cities?

No. Just one city.

- Where is your GTA set?

Modern-day Chicago.

- How big is your map?

About the size of the map from RDR2.

- What's the theme?

Mafia. A criminal starting small and rising to the big leagues until the very top of the city.

Slow-paced game, like RDR2. The protagonist isn't conflicted though, he knows what he wants and he is going to get it. The plot conflicts are more centered around betrayals and violence (you got to pay the price for this kind of life after all).

The main-campaign doesn't need to extend itself for too long (GTA IV length would be fine). A few moral choices here and there, different endings.

- Is it SP or MP focused?

Single player and some form of co-op.

- Do you have multiple protags?

The Main Character and his/her Partner [one dies or goes to jail. Your pick on both.]

- Is there multiple cities?

DLC

- Where is your GTA set?

Houston [Austin or Dallas as DLC]

- How big is your map?

Houston big

- What's the theme?

A police drama where you play as a crooked cop taking inspiration from Michael Dowd's story.

Kalashnikov1947

My idea is more akin of a GTA-inspired game than a GTA game itself, but I'll give it a whirl...

- Is it SP or MP focused?

A mix of both, you can either play alone with AI-controlled teammates or co-op with friends. A seperate GTA 4-like multiplayer is considered with PvP and PvE game-modes.

- Do you have multiple protags?

Yes, 3 of them. One is an Italian immigrant from a mafia family and an Iraq War veteran, the other is a Russian who is a freelance criminal and also a former soldier who's close friends with the Italian, and the last is a woman from China with ties to the Triad. I've considered another character, a Mexican cartel member for a potential sequel.

- Is there multiple cities?

Yes, you'll be able to travel throughout different cities through airports you can find on each city.

- Where is your GTA set?

Plenty of real-life cities in the United States. Rather than settling for well-known cities such as Chicago and New York, I wanted to go for obscure ones, such as Springfield, Illinois.

I considered multiple cities around the world such as Palermo, Tijuana and Vladivostok for sequels.

- How big is your map?

Each map would be between the size of GTA 4 and 5.

- What's the theme?

The game would be set in the late 2000's, and I thought of something inspired by the Sift Heads Flash game series, complete with an unique visual style inspired by the likes of Schindler's List, Sin City, Madness Combat and games like the said Flash game, Hatred and The Saboteur (i.e., an almost black-and-while colour palette, with certain parts being coloured such as blood, explosions, lights and bright colours), complete with an optional feature for full colour as a reward for game completion.

As for the gameplay, each protagonist would have different gameplay styles. The Italian would have something similar to the Sniper Elite series, the Russian one is your typical third-person shooter with some refinements to the formula, while the Chinese is inspired by Spinter Cell, Metal Gear, Assassin's Creed and other stealth games like Manhunt. RPG elements would be included, such as skill trees with different upgrades for each character. Like GTA, the game would also have different activities to set it apart from being a third-person shooter, such as hangouts, mini-games, gambling, dancing, racing, sports such as pool, etc.

Each AI-controlled protagonist would employ different tactics, the Italian acting as sniper support, staying far away from enemies as possible and priotising vantage points, the Russian prefering brute-force tactics with flanking and ambush strategies, and the Chinese prefering stealthy approaches and surprise attacks.

Each protagonist would cater to a different play style with each of them having their own advantages and disavantages, and being proficient at different weapon types. The Italian one would be suited for long-range combat with weapons such as battle and sniper rifles with SMGs for close-range encounters, but is a glass cannon and goes down much easily. He would also have support abilities, such as deploying ammo and health kits. The Russian focuses on aggressive combat with powerful firearms such as assault rifles, shotguns and heavy weapons with high endurance at the cost of accuracy. The Chinese lady wouldn't be so great at combat on the open, rather relying on stealth and distraction with short-range weaponry, such as pistols and SMGs and plenty of gadgets (disguise, diversion, sabotage) to deal with her enemies.

There would also be a system akin to GTA 2's respect system in play, where there are multiple factions to work with. Jobs and missions for each faction has a chance of affecting relationship with another to the point where things could happen such as the other faction attacking you on sight and sending hit squads after you. Some missions would have different choices you can make with varying consquences. There would also be multiple endings, and the ending would be determined based on the respect of each faction and the choices you've made. Replay value would be heavily encouraged with these aspects in mind.

- Single player focused, fck multiplayer

- 1 protagonist as always

- only 1 city

- and it’s set in anywhere city

- pretty big map, same size as GTA IVs Liberty city

- and the theme is a retro futuristic city with 80s tech and style with crazy gangs, so basically just a modern gta 2 Cus we haven’t gotten one.

Edit: I've misread this as 30m lol

Given the cost of making new GTA games (or any big titles) now, with 30m you'd definitely have to scale down considerably.

Probably a mobile-exclusive GTA set in a scaled down version of Los Santos without Blaine County, similar to Chinatown Wars, with maybe a few extra small areas like Long Beach and a few Orange County / San Diego County towns like Laguna Beach or Oceanside that previously weren't in V.

Similar ragdolling to the Gangstar games and definitely more arcadey Midnight Club-style driving and shooting compared to V, with some more exclusive minigames and side missions (think home invasions or drug dealing). Redundant features like diving or creeping would be removed. Wanted system would be similar to IV to allow for more breathing room and reduce waiting time.

Story Length would probably be very similar to games like Sleeping Dogs, or at most, Vice City Stories, 30-50 missions thereabouts. Missions would have a more 'urban' feel and take place mostly within the LS metropolitan area.

A seperate multiplayer component that's somewhat similar to early GTA Online, which would help to stretch out the game's replay value and function as a money maker for R* with purchasable skins, cars, clothing.

cant remember

- Is it SP or MP focused?

Single player

- Do you have multiple protags?

Two

- Is there multiple cities

Multiple small towns

- Where is your GTA set?

Midwest

- How big is your map?

As big as budget allows it

- What's the theme?

The game takes place in the mid/late 90's, away from the large metropolitan areas glamorized on TV. You find yourself in the vast expanse of the Midwest in the heart of the USA. Long straight roads cutting through fields or plains. The low density of the map overal allows the developers to expand horizontally and make a very large map. The scaling factor will be less pronounced, eg. the main town in the game would be the size of Los Santos, but since it's meant to be a small town it would be somewhat true to life size (as opposed to Los Santos being a miniaturized LA)

The story would follow two brothers and be slow paced, overall the whole thing is heavily inspired by Hell or High Water. In this movie two brothers rob small-town banks in Oklahoma/Texas in a very grounded setting.
