Ooh I like those a lot...

That's cool. Sort of what I'm doing with mine, but customized to fit my specific components, and water cooling pass throughs and such. Gives the case a much cleaner look when the mobo tray is covered like that.

They're not badly priced either. I might look at getting one to fiddle about with.

So fittings question here. I'm currently ordering components for my loop, I've decided to go with soft tubing for now as I'm likely to be switching to X299/i9-10920x in the near future and I want to make swapping things out without draining the loop as easy as possible.

I've got 16 fittings required for components, excluding some kind of drain port setup. 14 of those 16 I want to be 1/4" to 10-16mm 45° compression fittings (CPU in/out, 2x rad in/out. and all 8 termination points on my distro plate). The default answer for fittings seems to be "BitsPower" but 14 of their 45 degree compression fittings comes in at a fairly horrifying £275.

Has anyone got any other recommendations? Ideally looking for matte black but could would be happy with silver/chrome too.

I'd just at spotted that today, their website is absolutely terrible on mobile but digging around on PC I'd managed to find them.

Even including the cost of buying compression fittings as well as 45 degree adapters, that comes out a lot cheaper.

Bitspower also recently launched a budget branch of fittings, called Touchaqua. Not sure what types of fittings they offer in that line up, though, or how available they are. But the EK ones are solid, too. Using mostly EK-fittings in my current build (WIP). :)

Ooh, anything you're happy to share?

I'll definitely take a look at TouchAqua.

Nothing too tangible yet, waiting for some parts to come in. Will share when it starts progressing. 🙂

So EKWB fittings come in about £100 cheaper Bitspower than for 14x45 degree, 2x90 degree, 18x compression, a fill port and a ball valve. Between nickel and black at the moment.

Anyone have/had much/any experience with getting parts from places like GrabCAD made up? Some enterprising fellow has produced a version of the EKWB Lian Li O11 distribution plate with a cutout designed for a D5 rather than a DDC pump and with a couple of very minor tweaks (namely a fill port on the rear) it would be perfect for my build.

Assume usual caveats regarding double-checking measurements and finding a decent CNC routing place...

Also, holy sh*t, the quality difference of the Watercool stuff over the likes of EK is incredible.

I really hadn't expected it to be so much higher given they share a price point.

-Edit

Man I forgot how easy Fusion 360 is to use. G1/4 fill port added in and screw threads countersunk in about 20 minutes...

Aaand done.

Now just need to find someone who can turn it into something machinable.

Employing a little CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) to mock up a rear IO cover.

Just getting the basic geometry right for now before I decide how to shape it.

More CAD this morning, matching the I/O plate to other mobo components.

Yeah. I'm not such a fan of the front plates as I don't really want to lose a whole pane of tempered glass (I'm planning on doing some etching in keeping with the whole "sandwasp" theme, maybe some honeycomb/hexagonal patterns and some kind of logo).

Also..that price. Over £350 is huge money. The guy I'm currently talking with around getting my custom plate CNC routed reckons he can do the plate halves and thread mill the holes for about half the price of the EKWB G1 side distro + DDC. Even with M4 bolts, G1/4 blanks, a 3D printed pump housing, a decent PWM controlled (and definitely not molex powered) D5 and laser cutting the alu cover plate (which I'm planning to do a brushed finish on) I should still come in well under that (and possibly near or even under the cost of the G1).

So gave the go-ahead on my custom distro plate with a local machine shop today.

The guy who runs it has not done much work with Acrylic before but wants to give it a go for the sake of experience more than anything.

£100 for the plate front and rear if it all works out

Material costs if not.

Super happy with that.

Also broke up my IO plate in two parts and sent that off for 3D printing. At £20 I don't really care if it goes wrong.

Bought one of these in black as there's currently 10% discount on everything with the code spring2020

Run 1 of my I/O plate was alright, but not great.

Found a provider doing nylon SLS printing and had a second go along with the pump bracket.

Very happy with those.

Daym, those look smooth. :colgate:

Going to paint them I presume?

Pump bracket no, not going to bother. They've been dyed and tumbled plus it won't be visible.

The IO bracket will get a few coats of automotive filler primer then painted black with the indents yellow.

I now have almost all the bits for my loop either on order or with me.

CPU and GPU blocks, GPU blackplate, motherboard tray all arrived and ready for fitting.

Managed to get in orders for the Hardware Labs GTS360 and GTX360 today, first time they've been in stock anywhere in months.

Distribution plate should be underway now, I'll follow up with the guy building it. Big bag of fixings and some o-ring material on order.

Just need pump, tubes and fittings.

Had some unfortunate news. The guy doing my distro had not succeeded in his attempts despite several goes and due to a backlog in existing work has had to admit defeat.

I'm now moving onto a new supplier who has considerable experience in building these plates. Need to make a couple of minor changes to make toolpathing easier but hopefully that should be it.

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally finished working on my SLS printed parts in a way I'm happy with.

Pump mount (too lazy to clean up the screw holes):

GPU supports:

IMG-20200728-131849.jpg&key=63b4d2a80717

All done with 3x coats plastic primer, 3x coats automotive matte black and 2x matt clear lacquer.

Still got some work to do on the I/O cover but very nearly happy with it.

Pump should arrive tomorrow, just chased up my distro plate guy, big bag o' Barrow fittings here...now all I need is tubing and fluid.
