[SA] What's the difference between water.dat and water1.dat?

Recommended Posts

water1.dat is unused

Any idea what it was going to be used for? What would happen if I replace water.dat's contents with water1.dat's? It'll mess up the water at least, but would the game crash or anything? I'm interested to see what the map's like with old (?) water maps.

It looks like a beta version

You can replace water.dat's contents with water1.dat's. Then you can see that there're some gaps.

R-Star had to fix it and then make a final water.dat.

Also, by considering this info, parameter F1 and F2 is set to 0.0, in water1.dat it was set to 1.0

Maybe because R* was testing the water flow

water1.dat can also contain invalid setting that let they game crash, it could need a lot of time to find it out

In water1.dat is missing the last parameter. In water.dat, each line have an integer value as last parameter

Steve M's description about that parameter:

Parameter: 0 1 2 3

Visible: no yes no yes

Shallow: no no yes yes

But it wasn't a problem, i tested the content of water1.dat ingame, maybe for 5 minutes, i was flying around for a fast look of the sea everywhere.

Very informative, thanks!
