Weather in GTA Online

The irony. A thread complaining about the weather posted by a Brit.

 

We start a conversation by complaining about the weather.

We end a conversation by complaining about the weather.

As soon as we get through the door from work we complain about the weather.

First thing in the morning we complain about the weather forcast.

And now we complain about virtual weather.

 

I guess all those stereotypes are true.

Anyway I digress. I'm off for a cuppa and crumpets.

 

lol Hang around me during winter time here in the U.S.; you haven't seen anything yet.

 

I've had moments where I've literally been briefly emotionally ballistic in my car (no passengers) because two solid weeks of shoveling constant snow with "permacloud" and ZERO sun have severely p*ssed me off.

I like the weather variety but wish it was set to have clear and sunny more than crappy weather.

Maybe like 75% clear and sunny like the race and mission choice.

 

As it is now it seems, at best, 10% clear and sunny. Haze, fog, and rain for hours and hours it seems.

By clear and sunny, do you mean what we get in Free Mode or the ultra clear and sunny we see in flight school?

The clear and sunny i refer to is what we, PS4, get when selecting noon and clear in races and other activities/jobs.

The weather is sunny, blue skies, clear atmospher free of haze, and the time is locked at noon.

Selecting night and clear provides the same but at night.

 

In regular game play i find night weather much better than during daylight hours. The clear and sunny is 10% at most.

What i get is hours and entire weekends of crappy fog, haze, and rain during the day.

It is all annoying as clear and sunny provides the best colors, level of detail, and best draw distance, but we get that weather the least.

I do think it's a bigger deal than people relalise. Fortnight has blistering sun/brightness. Just as in real life, it makes things that much nicer. But it's not by coincidence that R* do it this way. I'd like to know why they do though. Is it to do with increasing pvp in Free roam? Come next week's dlc there will be more rain again, always is.

Heard the lack of rain at night has something to do with system limitations and generating all of those reflections for everyone

I absolutely love the thunderstorms and rain showers in this game. I have a really good surround sound setup and on the rainy sessions in game I can almost fall asleep to the sound of the rain.

I listen to recordings on Spotify too when I go to sleep..they all have pussymode thunder though, barely a rumble.

Look, sorry to be the curly hair in the fries, but the simple fact that this game even has a variety of weather conditions is still staggering to me.

 

Especially when I go back to my youth and our version of a "video game" was prying the particle board off the back of the tv and trying to pull the tubes out without burning our fingers.

 

I get the gyst of the discussion, but really... the weather is fine. Leave it alone. Go get a Rhino and just blow stuff up.

Brilliant logic. I guess they should've just stuck with the same driving mechanics from GTA IV, since that was amazing compared to driving on Atari f*ckin 5200. I mean, it's better than 40 friggin years ago. Why try to get better?

 

Bottom line is it rains waaaaay too damn much to be Southern Cali, which, like it or not, it is supposed to be. Gotta love all the dry desert sand you see in the game. Especially since all that sand would never exist anywhere it rains so goddamn much. SA should look like a Brazilian rain forest with all this goddamn rain.

 

It's stupid to set a game in a desert, and set the weather to Scotland. Period.

now, generating all those reflections for everyone is only a problem if we were all playing on the same console, somehow lol

but yeah, I think it was Mach1bud that explained that few pages back, I've seen something similar with all the lag caused by glitching the Halloween weather in freemode, I liked the view, it had a scary feel for the game yeah but every now and then you notice this crazy FPS drop, I know it's a normal thing but it's very noticeable with that weather glitched like that, I imagine it's the same thing with night and rain.

Days should be clear blue skies, no smog.

 

Nights should be pitch black and foggy, pouring with rain and with intense thunderstorms.

 

(Ideally - but I like it that its mixed. Although there really is too little clear blue skies during the day and too little thunderstorms during the night)

 

Rainy days are the worst. Especially since every second time you leave the IE garage it seems to start raining - it can be clear blue skies while entering, and upon leaving with an IE vehicle it sure as hell starts to pour.

In a more direct comparison, the driving physics, to me, were 1000 times better in GTA IV than in GTA V. It was one of the first disappointments I remember in the game. "What? Where's the vehicle damage?"

 

As for the Atari 5200, it's a tough call against the 2600. The 5200 was more complex to set up and get going, taking longer to get into games, yet had better graphics and sound. The 2600, was great because you literally turned it on and dove right in. I guess if I had to go back in time and choose one, it would be the 5200, but man, that 2600 was built to fun!

Weather has definitely improved since last update. Brilliant considering it normal gets worse.

 

I'm not sure but we may even be seeing some slightly brighter weather modes too in Free Mode? I know we can now select more options in standard races.
