i read about people simply minding their own business being banned for having cash dropped on them. sure you could leave the session immediately but you might be semi afk (i am a lot on ps4). is this true?

also how bad actually is modding?

how common are modders and what can they do?

i read

they can actually wipe your bank completely and your weapons

blame you for destroying pvs and put you in bs

permanently attach sh*t to your character model

reset you to rank 1

and ofcourse the stuff i know is possible like just killing you with magic explosions from nowhere like in iv.

is this possible?

and if so how common is it?

from what i'm reading it seems like i'll transfer then get instantly banned because someone dropped cash on me

(note: I call them griefers, rather than modders - some people just want to watch the world burn after all).

My experience with griefers has been fortunately very brief, but I'll answer your queries as well as I can. Hopefully you'll get proper answers from others with more knowledge.

Provided that you're quick on changing sessions or leaving the game, you're normally okay provided that you aren't spontaneously attacked out of the blue (magic explosions!), or whilst you're loading back in from a job.

If you just join random public lobbies, I'd estimate you have a 15-20% chance of encountering a griefer. Best to stick to invite only or crew sessions if you can. Use common sense. If you see dozens of "GrieferXX01 has killed NoobyMcNoobface" messages upon joining a lobby, get out immediately.

Griefers can do most things, but I haven't heard any proven tales of anyone being de-ranked or having their money wiped (I want to say that information like that is on a different security level to gameplay, but I'm probably wrong). They can remove weapons, ammo, snacks, and armour from you easily, and spawn props from the single player campaign pretty much anywhere (including safehouses and garages).

Griefed players can be forced into 'Bad Sports' by being blamed for destroying other players and PVs certainly, and in this manner can be charged repeatedly for insurance costs (this may be where you've heard of money being stolen). For example, if a griefer spawn-explodes an owned Shotaro on you, you'd get charged around $20,000 each time - and they can do this every few seconds.

You can have items attached to your player model by griefers, but I believe this only lasts for as long as you are in the session. After you've logged out and returned, your appearance should be back to normal. One of the less mentioned issues with this is that you could end up being lagged-to-death by the amount of attachments, which could leave you vulnerable to further attacks (money drops, PV blaming, etc.). Also if you are lagging, you mightn't be able to get into the report screen.

TLDR: if you have to use public lobbies, be sure to bank your cash ASAP. That way if you are a victim of cash drops, you can confirm how much you had (banked) versus how much you've been 'given'. Use the in-game report facility IMMEDIATELY if you are griefed so that Rockstar have more of a chance of seeing the activity in their logs - if you can record any incidents through screen-capture or simply by making notes of usernames, that might help too. And obviously don't spend any of the cash you've been griefed with.

Yes, griefers can be scary, but generally they're just idiots. Ignore them or leave the lobby. Don't be put off from playing the game!

On PC they can be pretty bad, but usually after a DLC drop or major update there's a big ban wave that settles things down. You'll want to look out for people not taking damage, super jumping around, the spawning in of things such as aliens, clowns, clones, ufos, clown cars, or other things that seem out of place. If you see someone running around with money bags dropping behind them, or if you get teleported up to the top of Maze Bank Arena or anywhere else.

Just report anyone suspicious and find a new session.

Why would modding be bad? Mods are cool and make singleplayer more fun..wait, you're one of those that call installing a trainer "modding", stop that already.

You get banned if you're caught cheating. Yes you can get banned for getting cheated money dropped onto you and spending it. Simply don't idle in public sessions, and if somebody actually drops cash onto you, find a new session or go to singleplayer ASAP. Nothing should happen to you if it's an amount below 100k, but if you want to be extra safe, contact the support and they'll remove it.

Scriptkiddies are becoming kind of a problem again right now.

They can't "wipe" your bank, but they can make you pay shîtloads of money for destroying pvs you've never even seen and therefore put you into bad sport. At least i think that's possible now, never had that happen to me, thankfully. Your weapons can be removed, but enabling and disabling your custom loadout fixes that. Or joining a new session.

How would it be possible to permanently attach siht to you? If siht doesn't go away after switching sessions, it's gone after rebooting the game.

How would they be able to reset you to rank 1?

Yes, scriptkiddies can blow up lobbies. Pretty rare though, nowadays.

Modding is rel bad m'kay? if you feel the need to mod just sing yourself a little song m'kay? I really don't want to see you on the Rockstar Newswire forum crying that you were banned for no reason and you have no idea why. I am nowhere near as nice there as I am here.
