Official General Posted December 5, 2016 Share Posted December 5, 2016 (edited) Right guys, I've decided I'm gonna buy San Andreas on the PC. I've just bought V and I'm having a blast playing it with mods, and I'm gonna play IV with mods on PC next. But after replaying SA last year on the PS4, I had such great time playing this great game again - but this time I wanna play it using mods on the PC, it would make the game the ULTIMATE GTA fans dream. Which version do you suggest I buy ? The physical copy or download it from Steam ? I want to buy the disc and I have Windows 10 which I heard has issues running the game. If you aim for moddability, you are gonna have to downgrade either way so why bother with retail DVDs when you can just DL it? There are no unresolved Windows 10 launch issues too. It'll be easy for you to receive help or get support, if you are playing the Steam version. If possible then try to find the original version ( v1.00 ) in good condition. I have v 2.0 physical copy, and the game seems prone to crashes and glitches after downgrading. Others may not have such problems, but I thought I should just mention about my experience with the Second edition of the game. I'm enjoying the game with v1.00 that I found through a friend online, and hardly any problems at all. I don't need to downgrade and enjoying the game with all the mods, fixes and improvements installed. I'll definitely recommend you to search out for the original version if you are planning to buy a physical copy, and go for the Steam version as the last option. Can't say which version is the "limited edition". Others will be able to answer about it correctly. Also, I want to clarify that I didn't get v1.0 through amazon or any online store, but through a friend via facebook who gave me the contact details of the guy that he knew had the original copy. Here's why: with the physical/retail versions, you can only get v1.0. With the Steam version, you have access to the latest version and v1.0. Steam also tracks your hours played and allows you to upload Steam screenshots to the cloud. It is a bit of a hassle, however, to reinstall the game. However, I've made myself a Batch script that automatically restores backups of installations by just running it. I want v1.0? I run the v1.0 backup restore script. I want a ridiculously modded v1.0? Script. Perfectly clean latest Steam version? Script! The only disadvantage of this is that you have to keep multiple installations worth of files on your disk, which can get pretty big if you've got more than a handful of backups. Each backup is generally 5-10GB, so it's really not that much when you consider you'll never really have more than five at the absolute maximum, which can be around 50GB (which isn't even the size of a single installation of Grand Theft Auto V). I downloaded it, managed to play off and on 33 *minutes*, while trying to get the game setup. Then Windows 10 went unstable, after restoring it, I was unable to Play GTA San Andreas. Also, I was unable to Uninstall it. which meant I was unable to Redownload the game, because as far as STEM was concerned I still had a working game. BTW The download game is Version 3 (saves compatible with the DVD v2.) If anything goes wrong with a STEAM Downloaded game, you must Uninstall it to Redownload. They don't tell anyone this. I spent hours going in circles about trying to Redownload, not knowing this. And after the Windows 10 screwup the game ceased to exist as far as Uninstalling, yet was still there in pieces. It's simply not true here though - you need to downgrade either way so they are equally as hard/easy. Its illegal for retailers to sell the v1 of the san andreas game with the hot coffee. I've even gone to small game retail stores and they won't sell v1 at all. If you got it off ebay then you should be good. But places like amazon or gamestop and various other small gaming retail stores aren't allowed too.
