The next protagonist is anyone's guess, we're better off discussing who's likely to turn up from previous games as side or minor characters.

I don't think we should have a specific type of character just because other video games and media are doing it, I want a protagonist because they will fit into the storyline - regardless of gender, race, etc.

I think a Walter White type of character would be interesting, starting off as an ordinary person with fairly regular morals, but later in the game shows no remorse in doing the crimes that they are committing.

Two protagonists, male and female:

-One is a female in her late 20's to early 30's, white or spanish and looks good but a little bit fragile, she wants to retire from the game, is incredibly good with firearms of any type, has enough melee combat skill to hold her own against anyone, is prone to fight dirty and uses her looks as a advantage;

-The other one is a male undercover cop, looks and age are irrelevant but he looks normal enough to blend in anywhere, very skilled in melee combat and can disarm enemies, also skilled with stealth as he has to be subtle and quiet in his line of duty, not very skilled with weapons but thanks to his smarts and quick thinking, he avoids most of them;

Background:

The female knows "the game" ever since she was a kid, was dumped on a trash bin by her drug addicted mother whom never came back looking for her, had to live on the streets until she made some connections and started to sell drugs for a two bit drug dealer, until she ripped and killed him off for his rather small empire, tried to run the business but failed and almost got arrested in a setup, she escaped, change her appeareance, identity and moved to the game's location where she decides to just be an assassin instead;

The male used to be a family men who has to deal with his bills pilling up on his doorstep, his ex-wife divorce, the fact that his son doesn't like him(nothing like the bullsh*t between Michael and his kids) and treats him as a stranger and that his job's salary is soo awful that he is considering going rogue.

How things start:

The male cop accepts a new case to investigate a recent wave of assasinations of import bosses of different mobs, but most of the evidence leads to dead ends so he goes undercover in a mob that had the less amount of deaths to see what he could find, what he discovers was that the murders were done by the female protagonist on orders of higher ups, thus kicking off a cat and mouse game with each protagonist, as things around them start to fall apart.

Not sure if this was mentioned but based on Drake's views album photos, it would actually serve a good premise for GTAVI. To me, I can see it as a kingpin who has established an empire but is also involved in the criminal underworld.

I speculate it's gonna be someone who wasn't in GTA before with a story.

1. A woman. There were 3 girls in GTA 1, though, they hadn't a story.

2. Your own character.

3. A South American. (Colombia, Mexico, etc.)

4. A European.

I love the idea of an undercover cop and another possible character, a gang banger, in gritty Baltimore in the late 90's./early 00's.

My idea will help explain the protagonists. It's a two-character game. You play two players on both sides of the law. Both moving from low-level ranks to high-level ranks on both sides of the law eventually going head to head.

The cop you play as is generally a good cop that is broken down by the system made corrupt by his peers. Basically, you were a liability if you didn't do the corrupt thing as your fellow officers will suspect you as being a rat. There's an element of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" as well as the system, bureaucracy and politics can get in the way of good police work. Some times you know who the kin-pins are but you can't get the paper work , budget and resourse to sign off on some wire-taps. You're making street-busts as directed by your seniors Our cop protagonist might sell drugs on the side or not declare all the cash evidence from raids but he does do good police work. He''s a complete moral grey area personified.I think this sort of character will appeal to gamers on a much deeper level as we will be faced with moral choices as we do in real life. And while I think most people are genuinely, mostly good, we do battle with some the choices we make in life.

Through "good" police work, you will eventually get detailed on narcotics will go after bigger players in the illegal drug industry. Meanwhile you taking measures to manipulate the drug wars on the streets of Baltimore. For example, a moral choice you may have and do is that you find out that a major player had been responsible for the death of some innocents that weren't in "the game." A opportunity comes up to sell his drugs to his rival at a super-discount price, hurting the major players empire and giving rise to the rival. It's a lesser of two evils if you chose to have the up-and-coming rival more power because you know he doesn't murder civilians. He's the lesser of two-evils. Even though your methods are highly illegal and morally debatable you have to make that call.

The other half of this game is the 2nd character. He starts off as a low-level character, street dealing and eventually running his own crew and moving up the ranks. You don't cross paths with your other character for most of the game but merely exist in the same game and universe. It's just a way to experience a story from the cops side and from the street dealer and eventual drug-kingpin's side. You will relate to both characters well. You'll see polar sides to the war on drugs in a dark and gritty east coast city in the US. You'll experience police chases, raids on your stashes, empire-building, money-laundering, rival gang wars, a rat in your gang that you love but have to make a tough decision. As a player you'll empathise with and like the character. You''ll be able to express your own in to the character by the choices you will make.

The undercover cop protag will be likable too. He'll have a whole different set of side-missions that relate to the story. Like gang war missions in TBoGT, you'll have drug-raid missions. You'll raid drug-meets, drug-stash-houses, shake downs with street-level thugs as well as gun-training, advanced car driving etc. With each stint you do in different departments, you'll open a different set of side-missions. You''ll also do some LA Noire investigative murder missions.

The drug-dealer will have gang-war missions, defend the stash-house missions from rival-drugs gangs, tagging up turf, investment in real estate and business fronts, prison mission segment of story, police escape missions, drug-run missions from another city such as Chicago.

Yeah, it's heavily influenced from The Wire but in the sense that as a game and story, we have two sides of the story and that's where all the magic lies. We get people that are corrupt on both sides of the law but we also get good people that make positive choices on both sides of the law. We also get wormy rats on both sides too. We're all human.

You all either want a cop or a black guy.

How about Optimus Prime? Does no one ever think of the poor fella? How awesome would it be to go through the life of GTA as Optimus Prime, jacking cars, actually scratch that YOU ARE A CAR.

I'm pretty positive that this will never happen. And being of the creative mind and also currently of an inspired mental state, I pondered quite briefly while enjoying the film Calvary, how much I would enjoy donning the cloak of the church in a Grand Theft Auto production. How many different paths a storyline could take.

On another note, I did scan a post or topic around this community suggesting a dirty cop as our hero. Now that is an idea I like.

Three out of work protags, just like V. In a utopian crime free city.

1- A body guard

2- A corrupt cop

3- A young anarchist

Plot: Since they're out of business, they try to derail the utopian city into chaos.

Why would an anarchist even want to derail something into chaos if its a utopia?

Utopia = no more oppressive state = anarchist is happy

To add to my earlier post, I hope we get someone who doesn't talk much about their feelings or is less opinionated and just doesn't talk much at all. This way there's an air of mystery about him and less opportunity to say something we as the player disagrees with. It possibly also allows us to project more of our personality on him with clothing and hair-choices etc. This in turn will allow us to empathise more or to be engaged more with the character.

I kind of liked that about John Marston. He didn't complain so much as V characters and to a lesser extent, Niko. In V, you had Michael complain to about and to his wife, his two kids then Trevor and then complain to his psychiatrist. That's too many people to be complaining about and to at the same time. :p

I liked most of the characters in V other than playing with 3 protags.

Retired crooked cop

How would that work though? I've heard a lot of people mention that before but I don't see it working because as a retired crooked cop they're done and already out of the game sitting at home collecting their pension or enjoying themselves in the Caribbean with the millions they managed to get away with. He would have no reason to go back to a life of crime because he's already out.

They would just be like Roger from Training day and that would be boring

Lets play as one character and lets have that character be Catalina. Ready for a new flavour in GTA, but a badass woman we know is GTA protag worthy.

Nah, Catalina is too old and used now. I wouldnt mind someone new, young and fresh though. However I think it wouldnt work as a main character, but as a strong sidekick to the main protagonist.

on the crooked cop thing... not retired... still in service. that would be an interesting take on the GTA story. you are the inside man on the PD for the mob and pre-warn them and give them tip offs etc, whilst the story slowly melds from patrolling with your partner to killing your partner, and moving into hiding... great story there, somewhere.

Some time ago, Luna wanted a pay raise. However his boss declined to the notion. A little disappointed Luna about what was said, he continued to work hard, solving every case given to him all on his own. Then a huge drug bust occurred in the outskirts of west florida were a huge shootout occurred, the bloodiest shootout in American history with a body count of over 400. In the fiery aftermath, Luna passed through a hallway where it lead to the criminal organisation's capital volt. Thinking about the possibility of never getting a raise, even for his undercover persona. He took a single large duffel bag with a lot of money. I would like to see a Hispanic protagonist. I think the culture and history of Latin Americans offers a lot of creative ideas for an amazing story.

I see a young Latin American character about 22, 23, forced into living in a rough, gang populated area where he and his immigrant mother and family struggle. With that being said, it's his motivation for a better future and a better life. The character lives with his single mother and possibly another sibling.

He was a basketball prospect, in shape, handsome and he wanted a professional career to be his and his mother's way out the hood. Due to an injury he could never reach that goal and never finished school so he could work and help his mother out. He carries a chip on his shoulder and hates the world and the pain it brings, but loves the idea of living the high life. The only thing the world he lives in offers.. is to be in a gang and work your way up or to be some hard working low class that's never gonna get him that high class life style. He makes money selling weed and hangs with the wrong crowd.

One day his mother, who still keeps in touch with family in South America gets a call from one of her nephew's, which is the main characters cousin and another possible playable character. The phone call is basically about how he's coming to America and needs a place to stay. He's a well known drug Lord in South America and wants to move his business and lifestyle to the states, but wants to lay low when he gets there which is why he plans to stay with his aunt, who can't deny his acceptance because he's a very dangerous, wicked man. Once he gets there, his cousin, the basketball prospect is obligated to show him around and tell him what he needs to know to get to where he wants to be. Like what's the top Hispanic gang with the most power. Because he has plans to enter, quickly work his way up and take over. Once he enters he quickly works his way up and becomes a respected gang member, making a lot of money living a nice lifestyle. Once his cousin, the main character sees that, he wants to join. So his immigrant, drug Lord cousin sees that as an opportunity to take over the gang with his cousin as his accomplice. They go on missions making money, doing drug deals, meeting connects and more possible playable characters, creating the storyline. So the immigrant cousin kills the gang leader at one point, goes crazy with power, the main character has in issue with it and blah blah blah

I have researched everything and I'm thinking this might be it. He may be the next protagonist. If so, which actor would you like to play him? I'd like Michael Imperoli to voice him but alter his appearance more so (a bit like Trevor / Ogg) but even more than that. I think a white Vietnam war veteran with PTSD and a Hispanic drug smuggler would make fine protagonists too.

i already said it. put no hero, just let us choose among a character editor.. then just let us roam freely inside a nicely detailled world. i don't need any missions myself

^ Oh hell no!

My own idea:

If it's VC: A bent cop. Let's cheat on everybody.

If it's SF: A nerdy chain murderer. The voice actor can be Logic (the rapper). That boy looks too damn like those Zodiac Killer WANTED posters.

1. Main Protagonist(s)

The main or only playable character for GTA VI should be a user created character like GTAO. This would be the best option in my opinion, because I make my character and I don't get a character that doesn't suit me. There could be other playables for certain missions if R* chooses to do this, the playable a would be for introductory missions (introducing a new protagonist into the game).

2. Major Protagonists (Opinions)

R* Could've already hinted at one future protagonist, that being Franklin Clinton or a member of his family, like his son or daughter. Having Franklin would be cool in the future, and he would most likely serve as Michael to Franklin but instead it would be Franklin to You. My personal idea of what the three or more major main protagonists should consist of would be You, a mentor, someone in a cartel or gang, someone either active military or former military, an idiotic best friend (similar to Lamar).

3. Minor Protagonists

Minor protagonists are the mission givers of GTA, people like Solomon Richards. I am not going to go into specifics, but in GTA VI I'd like a lot of minor protagonists, some can be story driven and other can be similar to strangers and freaks.

4. Online Protagonist

If R* adds the custom main protagonist you should be able to use the same character in online mode. Online mode in GTA VI would most likely be similar to the current online. The online could also be more like TC The Divison where you head to a campaign mission in an open world with other players in it, but this will most likely not be the case. Online would be separated from campaign.

5.

This is just a quick thank you for reading this topic, share your opinions in the comments below. I greatly appreciate all of the comments, and I will try to read through and reply to all of them.

Should that part of the game stay?

With Vice City, you can play as:

A retired career criminal from an 80's drug cartel who lives in a nice mansion.

The psychopath would be an Iraqi war vet could lives out of a trailer park and is practically homeless.

But he is the first friend with the third character, an up and comer criminal who would be the nephew of the first protagonist and be a South American refugee.

Maybe this time the retired guy tries to stop his nephew from entering into the drug trade and gets back into the game once his nephew gets into danger? The prologue could also have to do with an 80's flashback where you play as the retired Cartel guy and you are with Sammy Bottino (wanted for murder in Vice City so, it could be a mission where a drug deal goes wrong and Sammy betrays you, taking alot of coke and money while killing some of your friends) leading to one of the antagonists being Sammy Bottino where a plot is laid out in modern-day Vice City to get the Iraq war veteran inside to get at Sammy who spills the beans on what happened leading to him revealing that the Gambetti family along with corrupt elements of the DOA wanted to get rid of the South Americans down south to wipe out the Gambetti family's new boss and their whole family when they come down to Vice to set up a deal between you, them and the Vice City mafia.

The only thing I would really want to see is one protagonist, just so we can get better character development. I've been itching to see a male Irish protagonist. I know that Michael is probably Irish, but I mean an Irish protagonist that has a personality similar to Gerald McReary.
