My comment was a indirect response to some social media comments about the update it has nothing to do with the post above.

8 days then? There was a gap between July 27 and Monday. If your comment was indeed an indirect response to social media stuff then it's not a great idea to post it right after a meme making fun of the game is posted. The last meme poking fun at the game in the thread was on July 16 and there were no sarcastic comments until now.

This game is fun, the gameplay especially is very enjoyable so it is good of Naughty Dog to offer more replayability options, the story though is just the thrown out concept of the first game transposed onto the sequel with no real reason..

I’m not sure why people are upset with this game.  Is it Abby?  I thought she kicked ass and had every right to kill Joel.

She's a pretty awful person who changes loyalties at the drop of a hat, maintained a pointless quest for revenge years after it would have been relevant, took advantage of her drunk friend sexually and escapes far too many implausible scenarios for her story to be as real as many of the other characters' were in the series. As for who she killed, it's partially that she killed that individual the way she did, it's partially that she left witnesses for no reason, it's partially that she does so after aforementioned individual has information relating to them given away without care and it's partially that as a character she never really evolves in the same way that Joel did over the course of the original game. That criticism is also valid of Ellie, she remains the same unlikable monster for most of the game with little to no real character evolution.

 

Her physical appearance is an easy thing to criticize but the truth is there is a lot more than that worth criticising and if these other parts of her story had been told better people would care less about that.

Considering how rigged the Game Awards are every year, I wouldn't be surprised to see TLOU2 win every category it's in. The real fun will be seeing whether Ellie or Abby win Best Performance and watching the fanboys be like "No, SHE should've won!" to the loser.

How is it rigged every year? So you mean Sekiro & God of War didn't deserved to win.

I personally don't think TLoUPII will win GoTY award (I think they will give it to a underdog game like Hades) but it will certainly steal the show winning most of them.

The fact that in the previous years there would be smaller games that would blow up in popularity and be massive hits yet only AAA games were in the "GOTY" category shows that the Game Awards haven't ever really been fair. I can see games like Hades being in the running as trying to "fix" that but I doubt it in the long run.

I see the GOTY as a commercial award and not a critical one. 

 

Sure they got it right in 2018, but it was almost impossible to get it wrong. Both GOW and RDR2 deserved to win and no one would contest the winner (even Spider-Man deserved to win).

 

But now look at the 2016 awards: Overwatch. Seriously? What about Dark Souls III or Uncharted 4? I think this is the proof that this award is not all about quality and merit.

 

So yes. TLOU2 is going to win and it will be a sh*tshow lol.

Hopefully TLOU2 wins GOTY 2020 (as it rightfully deserves) and the majority of the categories it's nominated for. It's very hard to choose between who performed better between Laura Baily and Ashley Williams, but I'd probably give it to the former. 

Would also be nice to see it winning "Best multiplayer" when Factions 2 hits next year or so. I can only imagine how much seethe there'll be in this thread.

TLOU2 will win guys. Because we "don't understand" this masterpiece. Critics do. My brain cannot possibly comprehend how much of a masterpiece the storytelling of this game was.

 

The only game that could stop this sh*tshow was Cyberpunk. A shame it got delayed. But who cares? It's 2020. It just feels right that TLOU2 would win in a year like this doesn't it?

There are some awards it has every reason to win, on a technical level it is a superb game, but as a whole it is not. In terms of accessibility, graphical fidelity it is clearly exceptional, it's bad narrative is what lets it down given it is a narrative based game.

Indeed. I don't mind it winning Best Sound Design or Best Accessibility, but the game is so controversial that it winning GOTY would be like if TLJ won Best Picture in the 2018 Oscars.

 

Though at the same time, Dunkey already showed us why GOTY doesn't really matter in the end. Funny because he'd probably put TLOU2 as his GOTY.

Really? That game is likely to be even more "divisive" than TLOU2, considering how overhyped it is. 
But it's alright, people like just have to go against TLOU2. 

 

Even if you don't think this deserves to be called GOTY, look at the other nominations: You have a GaaS unfinished game, two alright sequels, an AC clone, a good roguelike and then there's a game which, even if you don't like the story (which is greatly written), still has a better gameplay than 99% of the games that came out during the last 6 years.

 

 

What's funny is that this game keeps living rent free inside your head all the time. After months, you're still visiting this thread and keep sh*tting on this game. Not like I expected much logic from haters who don't even own a PlayStation, but yeah, it's still funny.

Playing down the other games while bigging up TLOU2 does not do your argument any favours, Ghost of Tsushima is far more than an Assassin's Creed clone for example, to ignore the game's plot for the sake of it's gameplay is also stupid, there are many reasons out there as to why people did not enjoy the story, and most people who have criticized the game rarely ever claim the gameplay is the weak part of the game.

 

"If you ignore the thing you dislike about the game, you'll like it" is not a great argument.

This has been argued so many times. For gameplay, sure. I can't really criticize a game like Need for Speed 2015 since it's issues are crappy car handling which you as a viewer don't experience, only the player does. Here's the thing though, I could criticize the story of NFS 2015 since you watch it unfold even as a player and it's cringe as hell. Watching the story unfold is what I did with the first TLOU. Didn't play it but loved the story alot regardless.

 

The problems with TLOU2 aren't with the gameplay, it's the story. TLOU2 isn't like New Vegas where the story can branch out and change so playing would be preferable (but still not necessarily required since you could watch multiple playthroughs). It's quite linear and the plot will largely unfold the exact same way. Sure you can choose how to take out the enemies in any given combat area but you will kill characters in cutscenes and such, they don't change obviously. I've watched the game's story from start to finish and read the arguments from both sides of the camps. I don't see how the story is good and I've watched Dunkey's videos, Girlfriend Review's video on it, I've watched them and I don't see it. I've watched NakeyJakey's video, I've watched Mauler's critiques on it, I've seen the other smaller reviews and I've read the pages on it from Kiwifarms whose dissected the events of the game, Abby's character and Ellie's role. I see NOTHING good from it,

 

I sincerely don't think playing through the game I've watched and read enough about will give me an epiphany that the story is somehow good. That the strange missing piece will appear before my eyes. That I'll find Abby charming or what happened to Joel satisfying with a controller in my hand. I watched CoD Ghosts' story way back and thought the story was awful. I was given a copy of it by a friend who no longer wanted it and it's story was still awful when I finished playing it. Nothing changed.

 

And yes, it has been living rent free in my head. Most likely because of the fanboys who say the game is a 10/10 masterpiece and plug their fingers in their ears when someone else argues with them. Not necessarily here on GTAF but I've seen it in other forums I frequent, even in threads not about TLOU2, that's how much they defend it in places. Honestly I'm giving the game more than a fair shake compared to most considering how I actually bothered watching the videos the people on the other side provide.

Cyberpunk won't be in this year's GOTY, as far as I know.

 

The nominees are:

- TLOU2

- Ghost Of Tsushima

- Hades

- Doom Eternal

- Animal Crossing

- Final Fantasy VII

 

I'm just going to say that Ghost Of Tsushima is a better game than TLOU2. Can't talk about the others.
