The Snow Topic.

Recommended Posts

This topic could've been a praise thread for all these years rather than an unsolvable binary preference conversation if they'd only rendered the snow in Blaine County. That would've kept drivers happy and given everyone a place to go and play but there's one big problem with making it work.

There's plenty of code in the game establishing boundaries from radio station changes to job spawn boundaries like Headhunter where you guarantee a city target spawn if you're south of the Eclipse and the Strip when you start, to getting a wanted level in Story Mode if you try to enter the city as Trevor too early.

Rendering the snow facing north only from the back of the Vinewood hills would work but the problem is the cloud mechanics, how would they blend the sky?

If we get this in Leonida I hope the map is big enough to consider a split. I like the snow but don't get why it's on or off. If they can render rain that clears after a defined period why not snow. Set it to one in-game week as snow, not real life weeks then vary the dry days in between. Surely that stops snow haters boycotting the game and makes it fun logging in each day during this period not knowing what weather you're getting or how long for. They just need to insert weather alerts on the radio, like the hurricane warning and bridge closed messages in previous games.

I don't consider myself a snow hater. I play Forza Horizon 4 too (the one with a different distinct season every week), and I play winter season the same as the others, except I mostly use rally and offroad cars, instead of road cars. It doesn't bother me there, because its real life location (Scotland) can also be snow covered and have frozen lakes. And it only lasts a week each time, which is long enough for most players.

However, in GTA V Online, the snow just feels out of place. Probably because in its real life location (southern California) the only snow they ever get is limited to the mountain tops, the city doesn't get covered in snow.

That's what they should do in GTA V Online. They can let the weather be snowy up in the air, including the reduced visibility, put some snow on all the mountains at altitude, but leave the ground level and the city clean.

They should have a look at the weather system in Forza Horizon 5. That one is set in Mexico, and they only have snow on mountain tops in winter.

i struggle the most with the snow because the rural English midlands in winter is like suffocating inside a plastic bag the sky is so dull. It's like the set of Sleepy Hollow. Sunny LS is my escape and I can't wait to get it back. I agree with the points about the weather in other games.

I agree partially especially with the out of place aspect. For me it feels out of place because the whole snow thing was nothing more then an afterthought from Rockstar then anything thought through. What Rockstar should've done, is making a whole worldbuilding around it, people who are wearing winterclothes rather then sunbathing in bikini with snow all around them, the ability to ski down the slopes on Mount Chiliad, more Christmas decorations on and around houses and in the streets, driveways that are cleared from snow, see people actually brooming their driveways with the possibility to do such thing yourself (keep it clear until you exit the session/game, only to find it filled with snow the next time/day you log in), etc, etc, etc.

I may be nitpicker but these are the things that would've made this snow thing more alive and more of an event rather then what we get now with certain 'events' that I can't do anymore because I already did them last year (snowmen, Yeti, Weazel Plaza) . . .

It would be cool if you could use the Speedo custom or maybe a new vehicle to plow snow, they could even make it a low paying job for the city or county during the winter months? Haha

Okay, it's cute having snow for a couple of days over christmas but what is this never ending sh*t? If I recall correctly the snow lasted like 2x2 days or something like that back in the day, with a back-to-normal break in between. I'm not sure but it feels like it's been snowing consecutively for at least a week by now.

I just hate the snow in this game, it's so out of place. Not to mention it f*cks up the driving big time. Enough is enough, let's go back to normal already.

When will it end? I’m extremely tired of the snow by now.

…. and is it me, or isn’t it new that the snow extends into all game modes?

New Year's Day will most likely be the last day.

And the snow physics are there, look at North Yankton. They could've done it but held back due to console limitations at the time. I'm sure if they were making GTA5 today, it might be different.

It would've been better than that "white-out".

Plocospermataceae

I remember at some point there was a thread about bikes with low grip tires. Some of them are pretty fun in the snow, they just turn really bad and you end up sliding sometimes. It's honestly pretty close to how I wish bikes handled by default, actually makes them feel kinda sketchy. Here's a couple clips, don't know if they quite capture it but the amount I'm turning is pretty much the most you can. I'm using the Vortex and Vader there, some other favorites are the Ruffian, Defiler, Lectro, Shinobi, Hakuchou, then the Nemesis and PCJ 600 are very low grip even without the snow. On the other hand Hakuchou and Defiler don't slide that much, just turn very poorly. Kinda fun just cruising around

Spoiler

A couple bonks

In this update, the snow is disgusting as in the past, it covers all surfaces, including the surface of the parachute, it IMMEDIATELY COVERS CARL! There is still snow in the water, especially noticeable in the marshes of the Zakundo base.

Well, towing a car from Fort Zancudo to Del Perro in the snow with the police on my tail wasn't really the most fun, but you have to do what you have to do to keep the business going.

Yeah it's annoying but I sometimes do it to inch towards the award of revenue earned, cars stolen and safe increase.

haha, yea, I usually only do it when there are extra bonuses. But the overall payout isn't actually that bad considering the price for the salvaged parts and the passive income.

Yes, I still tow cars too. One every 5 in-game days, so I keep the daily income going.

I make on average 140k from towing one car. 30k for the car, 24k on days 1 and 2, 21.6k on days 3 and 4, 19.2k on day 5, repeat. (this is with staff upgrade, not sure about daily income without staff)

The part I don't do anymore are the robberies, unless it's a car I want to keep for myself. To each their own I guess.

It's fun to go through more of the content (especially recent content that is OK cash) than the same things over and over for me, so I still also like doing some of that stuff every so often.

Meanwhile, there goes the snow, melted as quickly as it fell near Xmas day :sadkek:

Grinch of Los Santos

Some interesting shots from yesterday in the snow, last few bits of stuff. Wish I took more images did some cool stuff but I didn't lol. However, maybe some these are cool enough for something in the future to look back on.
