Alamo sea coke business linked to Simeons docks?

Whenever I am in the alamo sea coke business there is a laptop symbol in the map right near the warehouse you deliver to Simeon for. And when I leave the session from that building the overhead map shot is not of the alamo sea but the southern docks in LS.

Anyone know what this happens?

That's where all the new interiors are. Being surrounded by water makes it impossible for wall breachers to parachute in. Older interiors are mostly under Legion Square, and you'll often zoom in and out of there when joining/leaving sessions; you can also hear explosions from around here when inside your garages.

I figured that out when I joined a job by mistake from my clubhouse and when I quit it kicked me to the docks.

I did not know that :)

So all the building interiors are located elsewhere? Is that a security thing or a size thing?

Why do you think they'd do that for some interiors but leave apartments in the right place?

Apartments aren't in the "right place", they're all under Legion Square.

So how can you see outside your windows at live action?

Interiors which have a view outside are also under the map, but they are spawned into the buildings itself only for the people inside the interior to see.

I once spawned on top on an interior in eclipse towers after gettings kicked/disconnected from a heist lobby.

The easiest way to understand the live action view is to think of each window as a large flat screen tv showing the view outside of a particular location. My statement about all the apartments being under Legion Sq. was wrong, only the oldest type of the high-end apartments is under the Square, the other high end types are elsewhere, but still under the map. This was done so that there would only need to be a single example of each type of interior stored within the game's data structures.

Cheers lads. This was genuinely interesting. I really thought that all interiors were in the place of their exterior counterpart.

Another way to understand it is that the apartment is "projected" into the space it's supposed to occupy.

A great example of projection can be demonstrated in an older build of World of Warcraft, where players embarking on a moving ship were teleported to a ship under the map, and projected into the same space as the moving ship to avoid synchronisation issues. This approach did have a drawback, in the form of one or two hilarious bugs.

This is what happened when a particular ability was used to draw a character to a coordinate on the ship at a given speed, which provides a great visual example of how projection works:
