"Handles Bad" -_-

Gnocchi Flip Flops

Racers know and appreciate more about handling characteristics than anyone else, and we are most happy when there's a few different cars that require different driving styles competing for the top.

This is hilariously wrong. How do you appreciate more about handling characteristics if you're less tolerant of variety? Real racers adjust and adapt to numerous different driving styles. That's the fun in driving really. Driving would be boring if everything handled the same.

Yeah I like the Lynx, I pull it out for car shows all the time. But releasing a race livery car that doesn't compete is a damn shame, that's just a fact. Do i spend hours driving it around in free mode, listening to the engine and "feeling" the handling? F*ck no. But if that's your thing have at it. It's still a garbage race car that for some dumb reason has livery options.

The reason the Lynx has a race livery is because of the special edition British livery Jaguar made for the F-Type in real life. Fact? What? And a lot of people spend their time driving just for the fun of driving, to me that's a huge part of what makes it all fun and yes so is racing but the problem with racing, ugh, to have it shoved down my throat all of the time. It just gets old. Is the Lynx a crap racecar? Yes. But was it made to be a racecar? No. So what is your point? The price of the thing is utterly ridiculous and I admit that I can't explain that one. But it's not a bad car just because it can't race. That's just not how it works.

It's also funny how you talk up the handling physics of these cars, and then say the racing in GTA is too arcade like. Which is it? If there's all this magical variety in the different cars, then that would logically carry over to the racing. Duh.

Yeah... and when did I say that? All I said was that I preferred IV's driving mechanics because it offered more of a learning curve which I felt was more engaging than having every car be relatively easy to drive like they are in Online. I never said Online was too arcade, though I did subtly imply that the racing mode was I still think. And "duh" is right. If there's so much variety, which there is and you're conversing with someone who gets ridiculed for writing paragraphs about how a virtual car drives, then you should learn to adjust and adapt instead of complaining about anything that doesn't necessarily hold you hand.

Okay look.

I don't want to further disrespect the racing community any more than I did. But people need to realize that not every car is going to be/is made for racing. Yes I will mention the Lynx again but only to make a point. The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe costs more than a Corvette Z06. More than a 911 Carrera S. But is it as precise as either of those cars? No. As quick? Maybe as quick as the Corvette, if it's a manual, but definitely not the Porsche. And it is slowest around a track. Why? Because it wasn't made for it. The Lynx is exactly the same. Rockstar doesn't do complete replicas of a real life cars but their cars' handling characteristics are undoubtedly at least a little bit inspired by their real life inspirations. I'm a Lynx fanboy so I will argue in its favor, but if the car really wasn't fun to drive I wouldn't own it. The Lynx feels just like the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe in Forza Horizon 2. Because that's what it's based off of. It's just not going to be a real track tool, I never expected it to be, and more people need to accept that and this goes for many other cars in the game as well. I too was genuinely shocked at the price of my Lynx when it first came out and still feel it's four times the price it should be. But the fact remains, if the Lynx was going to based on the tail happy RWD Jag with too much power than it can handle and too much weight, it was never going to be a track tool. Not even the F-Type SVR - the fastest production Jaguar ever made - is a track tool, a Camaro ZL1 will embarrass the damn thing on the track. But that's not what matters. They're both great cars and offer completely different experiences that make them worth while.

But back onto the point, just not everything will be easy to drive. Personally as I said before I'm welcome to variety. There needs to be variety, it's the spice of driving. I love predictable cars but I love unpredictable cars too because it's a bit of a learning curve to me that often ends up being more rewarding and you can really find some hidden gems that way. Back in IV when people used the Sultan RS for racing I used the Banshee everyone bitched about and actually one a couple of races because I knew how it worked and how to counter its quirks that were otherwise pretty fun and gave it personality. It had some serious power delivery but not many people knew how to utilize it to the max of its capabilities. Okay. I know I mocked racing. But mocking me for liking the "feel" of a car is just desperate lol, because that's part of what driving a car as an enthusiast is about even if it's just a damn video game.

I'm not going to bash all racers. Just people who expect too much. I've seen people complain about just about anything. "This vintage van is too slow" "this heavy econobox drives like crap" "this big luxury car understeers" "this vintage cafe racer is not fast at all" What in the world were you expecting? I know that if I'm getting a classic that it will have some cornering quirks and probably not be the quickest or most balanced car in the game. If I get an econobox, it won't be the best driver's car. If I buy a large luxury coupe or sedan I don't expect it to handle like something half it's size. Nor do I expect that with vans and nor do I expect a classic bike to be as fast as a futuristic space bike.

People like to race. I get it. But a lot of cars are made for the experience and there is an awful lot more to the experience than tearing up a race track. Not being able to do so does not make a car suck. It just wasn't made for racing. End of story.

And what is with all of the hate towards the Lynx? Like toxic hate? :dontgetit: I realize when this car first came out I could not shut up about it but I wasn't forcing anybody to like that car. I myself keep it in the garage most of the time now yet still love the thing. But the moment Lynx gets mentioned it gets so much damn hate and y'all will even criticize the people who like it. What in the world did it do to you lol? Y'all act like it sh*t in your Cheerios. It must be the price tag. It's gotta be. You don't have to like it. Heck, I don't care. But the extreme hate is pretty strange.

Just throwing two cents. I share the opinion that a car doesn't have to be inch perfect to be enjoyable and the likes of the mamba are fun because of things like tail happiness. If you enjoy cars and driving cars you like them for all their quirks. To master an awkward car is a real thrill. Tail happy cars like the comet are fun, especially when other struggle. Other cars like the rat loader and rat truck which tend to have poor brakes and understeer when braking (only to snap oversteer when you let off) I find fun for their imperfections. Saying that If I really want to get about I use a stable and fast bike or car (cliffhanger or re7), but I still enjoy most of my cars. The only one I can say handled bad was the faction and that was simply R* being useless.

If I feel like a drive just for fun my favorite car has got to be the Vulcar Warrener from one of the early DLC's,

It is pretty slow in its class but it is just fun to drive as you can predictably drift this car.

I kinda like the old school 70's Skyline/Alfa looks and the customization is pretty cool you can make it look like a 70's era street racer.

I would never pick it for racing or doing heists/missions but just for a bit of fun it is at the top of my list.

Also I never see them being used by anyone else so it has exclusivity.

I only get down on cars when people suggest they can do things they can not! like suggesting the Lynx/Warrener and many other fun vehicles are competitive for racing if they are not, but I have no problem with people liking a car because they like it.

Any car that has an oversteer/understeer problem is one that I enjoy. Not completely uncontrollable nonsense, but cars that are a handful to control through the corners are pretty enjoyable. Of course the high performance, best of class vehicles are fun to drive just because they're so fast, but it's always fun to drive something with a but more unpredictability. Using the Comet or Feltzer in sports races is an enjoyable experience. It provides a challenge, while also providing a different driving experience from the tailhappy RWD vehicles. It's also nice when you are able to drive a vehicle that most people would deem "useless" (Futo, Bullet, Warrener, etc...)

I like the handling of cars in gtao. They may not be realistic, but they definitely have handeling variety. And you can feel those differences between the cars.

I just wished that the cars were balanced and competitive with each other's in the races.

^ I feel like that is more of an issue with Rockstar's highly inconsistent category system (e.g. coupes/sedans). They need to do away with it and introduce tiers and numbers, which fluctuate depending on how you mod a car. It's about as primitive as it gets to class racing categories by car body styles. A Windsor is a coupe and an F620 is a coupe but that's where the similarities end plus I'd class the F620 as more of a sports car.

I'm not. The only people who are are the ones getting defensive in the responses. There's a difterence between me wanting other people to like what I like and wanting people to stfu about stupid sh*t they're clearly ignorant about.

Honestly, what a fun vehicle is depends a lot

for an example, i think the schafter v12 is fun because finally we got a really fast 4 door

in return though...the pfister 811....disliking it quite a bit since it just does not handle like its real life counterpart.

But for an example the dinka jester might kinda handle balanced for most....to me it kinda oversteers to quick.

infernus, dominator, x80 proto and mamba are said to be stupid vehicles often because most of them are quite pricy, all but 1 do not do anything in their respective class when racing and have quite the character, but i really like all of those :)

I can only say that this game has abandoned any logic and really, I don't even blame anyone for being disappointed that (X) is not fast.

They made the Sabre Turbo into a 'lowrider' (which is a problem in itself, but whatever) and somehow this made it the #1 best car in Muscle.

It's a flippin' old 70s muscle car that can beat a racecar Dominator around the track. Want more? The Dukes was right at the top of the class, together with the normal Dominator, before Sabre Turbo Custom and Dominator RC were released.

A 70's muscle car right on the pace of a modern Mustang. And on top of that, the Dukes is the better handling car of the two.

Sports classics, you've got the Stinger and the Stinger GT. One is a classic Ferrari roadster, one is a classic Ferrari racecar. There's just about no real difference in how they perform. GG R*.

Then you add all the class placement mistakes, other stupidity (Schwartzer and Schafter V12 are virtually the same car - Schwartzer is the coupe model, Schafter V12 is the sedan. The Schwartzer has V12 badging too. It ought to be the same engine. They sound completely different, and Schafter V12 is A LOT quicker.) This is a game where before the Gang Burrito was added, the fastest Van in the game was the Bison.

Which isn't even an actual Van to begin with.

I do agree that fun isn't tied just to the best performing cars, though. I wouldn't own so many cars if I only needed the ones with utility. You could probably fit every PV with some form of utility in under 30 slots. That's including the armored stuff like a Kuruma, an Insurgent to save your ass from jet instagibs in freeroam, every class specific fastest vehicle and alternate choices for different tracks(where applicable), stuff like the 811 for freeroam top speed runs etc.

Meanwhile I have 60 car slots and 10 bike slots, and I'm struggling not to fill them up and ask for more. Maybe if R* didn't add any more cars or vehicles, at all, beyond this point, and added another 2 or 3 garages... maybe I'd genuinely get to the point where I'd have a few slots left and not a single car that I really want to own as a PV.

Maybe.

What makes a car fun to drive for me it's the handling. I love when a car oversteers and feels boaty and bouncy on turns. This is why I enjoy driving the Dominator.

Same. I just got done doing a pretty good cruise in my Windsor and I just loved how floaty it felt. It felt like I was sailing a yacht. And the way it corners. When you're just easing into the corners you can feel the weight but when you want to speed it can oversteer and I love that. If this car just looked big but handled like a generic sports car with boring 100% accurate handling I wouldn't want it, at all. Not only are the Windsor's quirks its charm, they're fun quirks, they're not even problems. They're what makes the car what it is.

/\Love your post. And def love the Hellcat in your sig, I got a 392 irl.

I love driving all my cars in game. Each one has it's own personality, and if someone says it handles bad, well, seems to me that person has yet to attain a driver's license.

The most fun cars to me are the ones that teach you to drive it, to extract it's it's full potential. If it's easy to drive, is it really fun to drive?

Case in point, the Pfister Comet.

I don't mind when cars get a little slippery around a corner and decide to try and cut itself in half on the edge of a building. What I do mind is when I can't even pull out of my garage without doing donuts for ten minutes. It may be fun to do that sort of thing when I'm just cruising around. However, all practicality is thrown out the window. Why would I want to spin around in circles in front of my garage when I've got a Prison Bus to steal?

lol the only care I've had problems like that with was my Dukes and that was in the rain. It's a crazy car. But when I need to get tasks done I just pick the most reliable car I have. the Bestia gets the job done and it has loads of grip and speed due to it's AWD system. Can even go off-road.

None of the cars are that dramatic as you say anyways. None of them. Not one. I own every Muscle car and Sports Classic in the game. Some are prone to burning the tires, sure. None of them are so out of control that they do unvolutary donuts.

The regular Slamvan, fully modded, worst wheelspin and brakes in the game, doesn't do what you just described.

Big car enthusiast here with a modest list of interesting real life cars driven. Gotta say, I agree with you wholeheartedly OP. Smiles per gallon boys, smiles per gallon.

When I bought my first 10 car garage, I remember saying to myself that one day, I would love to have it filled with 10 cars I absolutely love. 10 cars, each with it's own history and personal connection to me. 10 cars I'd never dream of selling. That would make me satisfied in my own personal GTAO experience. Currently, I'm at 9, they're all white and black, organized by height, and my God are they great. I'd love to share a couple with you.

Sultan RS. I've got mine in classic RS guise and wow it's a fun car. It's fast but slippery, looks great, drives so well, won't beat a T20 but that's not that point. It takes me back to IV, looks great and makes me smile. End of story.

Roosevelt Valor. I missed the first Roosevelt and beat myself up over it for a year. When the valor came out, I bought it and fell in love. It's fairly quick, turns well, holds all my friends. I love it because it's hilariously huge and looks unbelievably out of place in the GTAO landscape. It's special and makes me smile.

Dubsta 6x6. Firstly, if you don't like the 6x6, you're wrong. It looks the business, carries everyone you need, lots of pushing power, hilariously unrealisticly slippery, and has six wheels. That rig earned it's spot in my garage long ago.

There are others but that's enough for one sitting. Moral of the story, we travel in this game mostly by car so buy and drive cars you love. Just like alcohol and sex, if you're not enjoying it, you're doing it wrong.

Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I'm very picky with my cars too because I really try to attain just the cars that engage me, that I won't ever get bored of for good. I have three ten car garages. One for classics I love the most (only houses a Dukes and Stirling GT), one for cars I'm undecided about like the Schafter V12 and Contender and some other stuff and then the garage full of my main cars I love the most. Every car in the latter garage gets driven. So far it's at 7 cars and it's my dream garage, the kind I dreamed of when Online launched.

I do have a T20, it's the only super I have. I think it's the most engaging and purest of the supers category. The rest bore me outside of the Sultan RS. Plus it looks strikingly beautiful with the right options and in the right colors. And then I have a 9F Spyder. People whine about how much oversteer and understeer this car is. It has no balance but it can be tamed and is a joy to drive. I have two Grottis. My blue Carbonizzare and my Bestia GTS. The Bestia is pretty much my work horse it gets many jobs done but is also fun to take out for a joy ride occasionally but you know how it is with dailys. The Carbonizzaee rarely gets taken out but I love it just as much. It oversteers at high speeds. Not a bad thing at all, it's very fun. Then of course there's my Lynx. I've said enough about car already. It's basically a prettier Coquette which I also have and love and drive whenever I want a nice targa sports car. Lastly, my Windsor. I just bought it. It's a yacht on wheels and is anything but sporty. I could cruise around LS and sail down freeways endlessly in it, so smooth and floaty.

If someone is having trouble spinning out in certain cars then don't rev it as hard and away you go. Revving the crap out of some cars while steering with full lock will result in doughnuts but that's on the driver not the car.

I'm so chit at racing, I get up early on a Saturday morning to target stunt drivers with the average age of 9!

Its fun to use my old favourites instead of the must have fastest cars for each class.

Hey Mister! What car is that?

Very good looking car, but I still slide around in it too much to get any practical use out of it. Might just be due to my driving style if anything.

There are more cars I haven't driven in gta then I have. Now I love rolling around fast and speedy being able to whip through traffic and corners in a super car like the Entity, and Zentorno. But I like the x80 having a bit more slide and freeness to it. I have more fun driving a car that's more on the free side, like the Ruiner,Sabre,Futo and other stuff like that.

I have outrun someone in a super car just as easy in my ruiner, as I would have being in one of my super cars. You can go as fast as you want but if you can't drive it around the corner it doesn't matter lol

In regards to racing, I see it all as: "Different cars require different lines to stay competitive."

I know that public races aren't really considered the most "competitive", but that's where most people go for everyday racing, outside of communities dedicated to racing and I am often caught up in battles against the Elegys, Feltzers and Jesters (among the others in different classes, just an example) with my Comet, or for Supers my 811 vs T20s, Zentornos and X80s. I'll use whatever car I feel like driving for anything, except for Premium Races, those I always go with the try-hard vehicles.

That being said, I'll never understand the people who expect a Youga, or a Windsor to perform like a Massacro.

"What makes a car fun to drive?" Depends on the car. I just bought, of all things, a Rapid GT convertible (playing as Trevor in SP I stole one as soon as he moved to the city. Just seemed like his kind of PV).

I love driving it in FP in FR, I love looking at it, I love wishing I had one IRL, just don't try driving the damn thing in a stunt race.
