A question about players on the same IP

Recommended Posts

In June, I upgraded my son's computer so he could play GTA V. That day, we were playing together in the same session when all of a sudden he was temporarily banned (for 10 days I think it was). Neither of us had any interactions with any other players and we weren't doing anything unusual. Of course, I tried contacting Rockstar and all I get was canned replies. After 10 days he was able to play again.

After he was unbanned, we joined the same session again. We played for a while and BAM! I got hit with a temp ban. In both cases, there's no specific reason. Both bans gave very generic reasons (you might have been cheating, harassing players, or whatever...). Ten days later I could play again.

Since this happened, we have been careful not to purposely join the same session as each other. I guess my question is has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm afraid to join the same session as him now because I don't want either of us to be banned.

Yes, this has been a known issue for some time. Each PC must be on a separate public IP address otherwise it flags up a R* server alert which can result in a ban. That means that your internet service provider must give you two public IP addresses. You will have to talk to your internet service provider to see if this is possible.

Don't know where you're getting that information from, but for example, I've had 9 Social Club accounts. 3 of which got permanently banned and all the others apart from one has had at least one ban on them.

My IP address hasn't changed in the time the game's been out on PC, but I've never gotten an account banned, gone on another one, and had that banned at random, and neither have I ever had one come off a ban that ever got banned again at random, even when I've been playing with modders or blasé about things.

If there was IP logging, once an account was banned, surely any account that used the same IP would be checked for statistical anomalies or hooks injected or the script thread being used? That doesn't happen.

There may, however, be stuff added to your system's registry or GTA entitlement data and if that happens, I believe you need to reinstall Windows to refresh that.

Don't know where you're getting that information from

The information was published on the Rockstar Website Online Support page.

I'll try to find the link.

Would you be able to post a link? I've been browsing the Rockstar Support \ Grand Theft Auto V \ Grand Theft Auto Online Support section, tried a few searches and gone through a couple of pages. May have missed something sorry.

We've played in different sessions since these temp bans expired and had no issues, so it's very unlikely that something installed on both of our computers were responsible for the temp bans. I tried finding information on how to have a second IP address with a Comcast account but can't find any real information. Just people saying it is or isn't possible with no instructions or further info.

*EDIT* This doesn't address the original question about being banned for being on the same IP, but it does shed some light on the way GTAO works, if it's true:

Aye the only thing I had found in my ~20 minutes of searching was this, and there isn't an official statement from a support agent in here about being on separate IPs or anything. https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/203386626-Is-my-home-ip-banned-from-rockstar-
