Gauging an Idea: Sneak Missions

Recommended Posts

Just an idea that I want opinions on (TO THE MODS: THIS IS NOT A WISH LIST IDEA). I want to know your opinions on if a sneak mission or an element included in a mission to allow sneaking would be a good idea. For example, you have a safe with a dossier you must retrieve for Martin. Most of the time you mount an assault to get the goods and high-tail it out, but what if you can sneak in (even using the current and previous San Andreas sneak mechanics) grab the dossier and get out to the front gate before all hell breaks loose.

Also are there any online missions that sneaking can be used?

I love sneak missions.

They have plenty of relevance in a criminal game. Stealing military secrets, industrial espionage, assassination, theft, planting evidence, gathering intelligence.

Loads of options for new missions and heists.

But forget it, Rockstar problem have the next fetch and ferry update sitting ready for us. Another amazing trailer for yet more agonisignly dull gameplay.

In GTA 5 everything involving sneaking is pretty limited. We can't crouch, only hunch over, silencers don't always work, we can't move bodies, etc. Maybe Rockstar will implement it a bit more in the next GTA.

As long as its playable solo, yes. If I have to play it with randoms, nope.

Deliver EMP.

Also, here is one mission that sneaking can be used.

Some heist setups have stealth involved if I'm not mistaken.. as for more contact missions that have to do with stealth, not sure but I'd welcome it. As long as the mission doesn't fail automatically when spotted, hate that kinda stuff. It should be optional. Sneak in and if anything goes wrong try to finish guns blazing.

Although the Lamar mission where we have to transport 2 lowriders through the city without being spotted by cops was fun, I still don't like the get spotted fail type of rules.

This is kinda 50 percent wishing, but to answer the question i know only one mission were sneaking ever did something(besides the obvious heists) and that was good old coveted that has since been long forgotten.

Agree. In the old Tenchu games there were brilliant sneak missions but if you got spotted it was an automatic fail. I'd prefer that the guards were now totally alert and hunting you or preotecting what you are going after. Would be much more fun.

I vaguely remember that game. Climbing on roofs and throwing around rice bowls as bait if I'm not mistaken. Fun, brings back some memories of playing games with a friend I actually was sitting beside. Back when turns had to be taken.

But yeah stealth missions can be fun if done right, or the worst if done incorrectly.

A few contract missions that feature a sneak/stealth component might be interesting. I don't think it necessarily needs to be a category unto itself.

Well why not. We have a ton of shootings things, a billion delivery things. Why not a stealth aspect and mechanic? These things can only add to the game. And to be honest the stealth stat is there and completely unused, in SP and Online. Why not make it for something.

Ever played Deliver the EMP setup with randumbs? Or Bikers setup? No thanks.

It doesn't have to be forced 4 player stealth where the mission auto fails if you get detected, which btw, is obviously a work around to the fact that the AI can't detect you and then lose you.

Solid Scorpion

I'd be all for more stealth if like stated above it's not tied to multiple players and instant game over.

The most fun part of stealthing to me is how you deal with the situation when you fk up.

Say you've snuck past 10 guys, get spotted and end up having inadvertently surrounded yourself. Getting out of that s**t can be fun.

Unfortunately IMO I don't think you could build on GTAV's stealth mechanic much without a major AI overhaul.

But more options to use the stealth we've got already would be welcome.

this.

If we're not FORCED to work with randumbs I'd welcome more stealth missions

If that means new contact missions, sign me the f*ck up.

You can thin out the enemy of most missions stealthfully which makes good sense imo, some objectives can also be completed without killing every npc in the area which i like more than having scripted stealth missions.

One that no one mentioned yet is Crystal Clearout (i think). It's the mission with a package on a dock that needs to be delivered to Trevors trailer. You can take a boat and retrieve the package without being attacked.

Same goes for that "really hard" mission at Zancudo where you have to destroy three Lazer jets and steal a Cargobob, i normally only kill the three guards in the hangar then just do the objective.

Just saying i'd like more stealthy missions too but not the kind that fail when we get spotted. If anything the objective should just get much harder to complete if we alert the enemy imo. That's kind of the way it is now.

I played coveted yesterday. They just took it off the list. You have to start it from the map star on the hill you start from. Once your done cco2, cco3, dirt road, and a few other forgotten missions can be voted for.

I'm probably in the minority but I've always hated sneak/stealth missions in any video game. Having the option to do it wouldn't be bad because I wouldn't have to partake but if it was mandatory I'd rather bang my head against the wall then have to sneak around.

Your examples still follow the basic fetch, ferry, kill mission type. That's all any mission is. Sometimes a puzzle is thrown in, sometimes you have to look for the path, sometimes you got to kill numerous enemies, and sometimes you have a time limit. Either way all missions can be broken down into fetch, ferry, kill or any combination of the above, regardless of game.

yeah, i've been playing a lot of Payday 2 recently. same deal, but with the option to do things without alarms and shouting.

as to stealth in GTAO... if the randoms don't f*ck your mission then the servers will.

Not really. Quite a few here seem to like options and I'm aware of a few players elsewhere who aren't sneak fans. I will admit I like options. Sometimes it's easier to just go in guns a blazin, like rooftop rumble, but if a mission with the relative complexity of los santos connection had you looking up locations of the next checkpoint and maybe retrieving a key to unlock a door, you can either sneak in and quietly dispatch a few enemies or get to a computer, or commit to a full on assault and storm your way through. Better still Sneaking is largely a solo or small group activity anyway (always was, even in real life) so if you have a lot of enemies you can use sneaking to even the odds or just to clear a level as quick as a full blooded fire fight.

if we have sneaking missions, there area few things i demand before hand.

a REAL sneak mechanic that fades us from radar/is actually functional, allowed prone function and crawling, etc. (double click the left stick or something)

the beast thermals to let us see people through nearby walls.

laser sights.

and these.

honestly if we just got a gun nut update with a gunsmith to let us make our own guns, i would be happy.

Sneak should be implemented into contact missions, not just limited to a single mission. Also, this reminded me on the burglary missions in San Andreas. Sneak was really useful in those missions. GTA:O burglary would be a nice addition.

For strictly solo missions, yes(!) this is a very good idea--because if anything goes wrong, you bear the brunt of the failure. Stealth in and of itself isn't a "do it once, and done" thing. It's the "hmm; wonder what happens if I try it this way" that makes game play repeatable.

It would also be a great way to use accessories like the Rebreather, Nightvision Goggles, Stealth walking (remember that unused mode?), etc.

Everything except beast thermal. Plain old night/thermal vision would suffice :)
