We have liberties, that's different from having freedom.

There's no such thing as freedom, not when you have a government.

-------

So, apparently they won't even vote on the Trumpcare bill. It was gonna fail anyway. They revised it some from the original bill, but the revised bill was even worse.

Compared to the original bill, it would cost more while the same amount of people would lose coverage.

What happened to Trump being a great negotiator and deal maker? I guess it's hard to make a deal when the product you're selling is absolute dogsh*t.

There's no way to make a decent healthcare bill that gets approved by Republicans anyway. So hopefully the Republicans will continue disagreeing on how to further destroy healthcare, and things stay as they are.

That's probably what's gonna happen. Which is just even more embarrassing to the Republicans. They've been sh*t-talking Obamacare for seven years, and once they got power, they can't even do what they've supposedly had seven years to consider.

But now the President will move onto other things. Perhaps tax reform. So let's see how that works out.

Will be interested to see how the Trump supporters spin this. Will they simply gloss over the catestrophic failure to rally any meaningful support behind his flagship policy and continue to focus on the bit-part process behind other policies, or will they blame the Republican lawmakers for the failure?

The White House is already blaming the House GOP.

They're already trying to blame all of it on Paul Ryan and the Freedom Caucus.

If blaming the Republicans means that they'll lose seats in 2018 then that might be a good thing. Trump will get his sooner or later anyway. It's doubtful that he'll last four years and he's definitely not a two term president.

Trump sure gave up easily though. This was a big issue that he campaigned on. He has even said that it might have been one of the biggest reasons for why he won.

And he gives up after less than 100 days. Weak!

Even with a Republican majority in both the House and Senate, he couldn't get this passed. That's the major take-away from this.

But don't worry, he'll start blaming "the other side" (Dems) for the failure of hot garbage.

Yeah, they hate it. And they say Steve Bannon wants it to fail. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/03/24/report-steve-bannon-says-american-health-care-act-written-insurance-industry/

They actually hate it for some of the right reasons.

Let's blame the Democrats! Let Obamacare "explode". Great idea! Instead of accepting this defeat and actually trying to improve the Affordable Care Act and working FOR the people of this country and not against them! I also don't know what the Republicans have done over the last few years. Taking a nap? So many years and they were not able to present a working health bill?

Here's a thing I don't get: couldn't they have let the ACA stay in effect until they had this so called replacement ready?

Link to comment

They have. They're not repealing it if they can't replace it, which means it remains in place.

Moving onto tax reform now huh. This should be another interesting showcase of ignorance from these so-called conservatives in the Republican Party.

Just watched Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, of course fumbling over his words as if choking on his own bullsh*t, dismiss automation-induced technological unemployment and the general reduction in human labor demand (especially 'low-skilled') resulting from AI as "100 years off". I thought these Goldman Sachs guys were supposed to be smart. Just goes to show how otherwise brilliant people willfully suppress their own critical thinking in echo chambers of complacency. These corporate guys are so full of sh*t.

Now Trump supporters and oponnents are fistfighting with each other. Its dangerous how political violence become almost accepted now in USA.

frankly?

they got what was coming to them.

these yuppies perfectly sum up the Trump campaign. it's comedy at this point. some of the best comedians working today couldn't write much more poignant satire than we're seeing in this reality. look at these douchebags.

young, healthy, attractive white men with money and privilege and spare time getting together to bitch and moan and pretend that they are the forgotten victims of society... while wearing Trump nipple-stickers and appropriating Native American war paint. this is the epitome of class warfare and casual racism; white people in the US pretending that they're oppressed.

these ignorant clowns are defending the stupidest president to ever hold the office and they're doing it with the gusto of tailgating football fans at a college frat party. punching them in the face is a good start but they need a f/cking history lesson.

In other US new, it's now official- the Republicans have scrapped the Obama era bill which prevents US internet service providers from harvesting browsing and session data for sale to the highest bidder.

Funny how the alt-right and libertarians were so upset by collection of browsing metadata for intelligence purposes by the NSA, but don't seem to care about service providers collecting and disseminating user input and detailed browsing data for profit.

Also entertaining to watch Voice Of America descend into outright farce and pro-Trump propaganda dissemination by becoming a platform to attack Crowdstrike over entirely unrelated alterations made to a completely unrelated article. Ridiculous.

I believe that people are forgetting that states retain the ability to enforce some of their own environmental laws. Connecticut, the state that I live in, has vowed to uphold the same standards for water & air quality. CAFE and NHTSA requirements are at the federal level. California (specifically CARB) is more of an exception, which has the ability to create their own restrictions and laws. Most Northeastern states follow, or what I like to call "piggyback" the California laws, however this is set to cause conflict with the new federal standards. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out in Court, if it ever reaches that level.

The federal government has more control over vehicle standards, fuel economy, emissions, whereas states retain the ability in areas such as air pollutants, water, and toxic waste disposal assuming they don't conflict with any federal restrictions. I could see this being a major problem in Republican states, assuming that the Republican state governments want to shred all environmental regulations and laws for the sake of deregulation, but Democratic states will most likely not see a huge difference. I consider myself to more moderate, possibly more right-wing if anything. Although, I don't agree with Trump getting rid of all the water protection regulations and coal restrictions placed on factories. There should be a balance between jobs, income, economic prosperity, and protecting the environment. The past Administration also failed to create a fair balance, it was over regulated and killed jobs. It seems like playing the center field is impossible for these two polar opposite political parties.

I think it would be beneficial to invest in Renewable Energy, if Trump is all about jobs. There's more jobs in Renewable Energy than fossil fuel, specifically coal mining (it's highly automated). But that would go against his fossil fuel friend's best interests, so he wont. I've personally noticed that the left is now far left, and the right is now far right. I honestly believe the Bush years caused this political divide.

see it's funny because they're all Republican.

Congress just voted to reverse a landmark FCC privacy rule that opens the door for ISPs to sell customer data. Lawmakers provided no credible reason for this being in the interest of Americans, except for vague platitudes about “consumer choice” and “free markets,” as if consumers at the mercy of their local internet monopoly are craving to have their web history quietly sold to marketers and any other third party willing to pay.

The only people who seem to want this are the people who are going to make lots of money from it. (Hint: they work for companies like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T.) Incidentally, these people and their companies routinely give lots of money to members of Congress.

So here is a list of the lawmakers who voted to betray you, and how much money they received from the telecom industry in their most recent election cycle.

I thought it was basically California that decided vehicle standards. California is not going to lower its standards, and car manufacturers basically follow their standards, because selling separate vehicles elsewhere in the US don't make much sense, since California is such a big marked.

I've seen some vehicles with notices under the hood with "Not for sale in the state of California". I've also seen this with gas powered yard equipment, as well.

It probably depends on the manufacturer, and if they're willing to make two slightly different versions of the same product. Either way, it's going to get messy. It's going to be CA vs. the federal government. So far it hasn't been in Trump's favor, so I don't really know how it's going to play out.

Do you want to quantify human contribution to global warming or explain how much of it can be halted and reversed if we throw every possible resource at it? Or maybe explain why I should care about what happens to the planet after my death?
