That's kinda the rub though, that the police there, as you say, walk hand-in-hand with, well it jumps from far-right to white supremacists. This supposes that there was some sort of agreement before hand, or a wink-wink nod-nod situation. I've asked for any proof of this and none has come forward. All we're going off of is a thinly worded story about the incident.

 

But that's not the whole story, The police were there in Portland before the Patriot Prayer moved venues. What was left unsaid was that there was violence and arrests of your fellow travelers in Portland, before they moved to the other venue in Vancouver. The police in both locations keep the different sides apart and even escorted the Patriot Prayer folks back to their cars. If the police were working hand-in-hand wouldn't they avoid all that and and allow the two sides to go at it? Setting aside the fact that just one side instigated much of the violence.

 

And it's not like they just let the guy in the truck go. In the story you linked to he was detained. They probably took his name and info. The guy could still face charges down the line, even civil fines. So it's not like they waived him past or anything.

 

That said, some of these dude-bros may have been looking for trouble, who knows. I'll wait for any new evidence, but until then I'm not going to go around and label the Vancouver police department as some sort of apologists for white supremacists. That's just nuts.

I want to see that evidence as well. There's over a million law enforcement officers in the USA, so anyone claiming that cops side with white supremacists is going to have some serious explaining to do in regards to backing that up with evidence.

 

Even if someone could connect 50,000 cops to white supremacist leanings, that still means over 95% cops don't support it. A pretty far cry from a culture of racism.

This article gives a good luck at racism and other power abuses in American law enforcement from multiple perspectives. I'm not going to make too many claims related to it, but I think people who like having power over others are probably going to be predisposed to becoming a LEO. I don't think it's a stretch to say that those same kind of people will end up abusing that power in all sorts of ways - if they happen to be white, it could very easily manifest itself in a culture of racism. It doesn't help that so many other officers are willing to turn the other cheek so they can make the "one bad apple" claim. It just builds up from there.

 

How did you make out from Harvey, btw? I know you're in Texas but I don't know if you were in the affected areas.

I'm gonna guess you'll go with the, "These are only a few isolated departments," as if we're actually going to find any kind of study that reveals a nation wide, systemic trend, and as if anything short of that is just evidence of trends that are isolated to certain regions or departments, despite an overwhelming amount of anecdotal reports by civilians that these reports are indicative of wider trends at large.

 

When you have evidence from the DoJ, the ACLU, the NAACP, as well as anecdotal evidence from millions of citizens, then I would say that shows a pretty significant problem. You'd have to work pretty hard to deny and rebuke these reports, but no doubt that you will try.

Firstly, thanks for the concern. I did not sustain damage to my home or vehicle.

 

Secondly, your article, despite being an interesting read, falls short of proving anything remotely close to a culture of racism among law enforcement. I'm sure you didn't find that surprising, after all, we're talking about over 1 million people here. So, while you dig for evidence to protect Diablo, I have a question for you and your less intelligent peers.

 

How large does an ill-behaved minority need to be in terms of percentage before we can start saying they're representative of their population? Be really careful with the answer here because after we apply it to cops we get to apply it to all sorts of groups.

So, skimming thru the article, it appears to list Albuquerque, Seattle, New York, Newark, Portland, and NO.

 

Basically, the conclusion is that blacks in liberal cities are more likely to experience racism. In fact, all of these cities, with the exception of NO, are in blue states. Imagine that.
